Liza P.O.V.

"Oh, Liza, what have you gotten yourself into?" he asked, looking at me sadly.

"Hopefully nothing more than a misunderstanding." I muttered, my baseball bat hanging limply at my side.

He sighed, nervously running a hand through his gorgeous hair. "I guess you better come inside then." He saw me hesitate, and a sharp laugh escaped him. "I don't bite."

I narrowed my eyes at him, but stepped through the doorway. Hearing a whimper behind me, I saw Rosie watching Brent with terrified eyes.

"Come on, Rosie." I urged, going back and taking her arm.

She shook her head, her eyes never leaving his face. "N-No!" she stuttered, "I'm n-not going in th-here with those m-monsters."

"They're not monsters," I said soothingly, "they just want to talk. If they come anywhere near you, I'll beat them up. Okay?"

She cracked a tiny smile, and I slowly helped her edge around the solemn Brent, who was watching the whole scene without displaying any emotion.

We shuffled into the familiar hallway, and I let my eyes roam over the staircase and the paintings that I had seen before. The door closed behind us with a definite boom, and then we were encased in a gloomy darkness.

"This way." Brent murmured, walking away, and I struggled to keep up with his long strides, especially with Rosie hanging off my arm. He heard me struggle, so he reached back and gently took my hand, leading me forwards. My breath expelled in a shudder at his warm touch, and Rosie gave me an accusing stare.

"What?" I muttered at her, but she just looked in the other direction.

We entered a kitchen, and Brent deftly let go of my hand as soon as we were back in the light again. Full-length windows encased the room, showing a stunning view of the surrounding mountains, the light bouncing off of the trees, making them alive again. A balcony stood behind a pair of glass doors, so similar to the windows that you could barely make them out.

Brent didn't spare a moment to acknowledge the view, but headed towards the fridge, gesturing towards the bar chairs next to the counter.

"Please have a seat." he said softly, and I obeyed instantly, Rosie tagging along behind. I jumped up on the black, round seat, and started to tap a nervous rhythm on the wooden surface. I saw Brent's eye twitch at the noise, as if it annoyed him, so I stopped instantly.

"Don't stop on my account." he chuckled, keeping his eyes on the inside of the fridge.

Rosie leaned over closer to me. "What is he talking about?"

"I was tapping on the table, and it annoyed him, so I stopped." I explained, and Brent's lip twitched in amusement.

She frowned. "I didn't hear anything."
