Liza P.O.V.

I decided to walk home after school, sending a text to my dad not to bother to pick me up. And strangely, Hailey chose to join me.

"Are you sure?" I asked sceptically, my eyebrows raised, "It's a pretty long walk, and your house is even further away than mine."

"Pish-posh." she said dismissively, "My mom says I need to get more fresh air these days anyway."

"Uh huh."

"It's true!" she said reassuringly, starting to drag me down the sidewalk.

I'm pretty sure she just wants to make sure I don't throw myself under a car or something. As if I would let a guy do that to me...

I raised my hands in surrender. "Fine, your choice. I'm just warning you that it gets darker much faster these days."

She spun around. "What?!" she squeaked.

I couldn't help but smile teasingly. "Imagine all the dangerous beasts that roam the woods at night. Did I forget to mention that the walk is right next to the trees?"

"Yes!"

"Oh, sorry about that." I said, winking.

Hailey laughed nervously. "Uhh... maybe I changed my m-"

"Oh no you don't." said another voice, and we both turned around. Rosie was approaching us, her large handbag swinging on her arm. "I'm coming with you. Both of you."

"Huh?" Hailey and I said at the same time.

Rosie smirked. "I think it's time for a girl's night. Don't you think?"

And before we could protest, she started the long walk towards my house. We stood frozen for a moment, and then recovering our senses, we raced to catch up.

"I can't believe he had the nerve to just show up like that!" Hailey huffed, crossing her arms angrily.

The walk had been as predicted, extremely long. I was shocked that Rosie's feet hadn't broken off from walking in those high heels, but she said it just came easily from practice. Sure. Along our walk, I had had the time to fill them in with the events that had happened before lunch, except for my crying bit. I didn't need their sympathy at the moment.

Rosie shook her head. "I can't either. It's clear that no one wants him here."

"Exactly!" Hailey exclaimed, her eyes flashing. "Just because he's the son of the alp-" she cut herself off, and slapped her hands over her mouth.

My head snapped up. "Son of the who?"

Hailey covered her mouth with her hands. "I said...umm..."
