SCARLETT

"BUT I WANNA COME WITH YOU." Rose whines as we knock on mom's front door. Rose is spending the night there so Lita and I can have our very much needed talk.

Speaking of the devil, Lita is getting off of work in an hour. I know I'll be early, but I was planning on spending a little while there, just hanging out. I haven't been there in a while after all, but also because I can. Who's gonna stop me? Certainly not Lita.

The door opens and mom rushes us inside. We make ourselves comfortable, well Rose is. She dumps her bag and takes off her shoes, leaving them by the door. "You can't, not tonight. Mama and Lita are having a sleepover." I explain to my daughter who's very much not happy with spending the night without me.

"No fair."

"Yes fair. You're having a sleepover with grandma." Just as I mention her, mom comes back and tells Rose all the fun things they can do like baking, or drawing, watching movies, make a pillow fort... all kinds of stuff. "See, you and grandma are gonna have so much fun! Lita and I are just gonna talk. Now, be good. Mama will see you tomorrow."

"Bye mama!"

I'm lucky Lita's shop is at a walkable distance from here. It's warm outside, and the light breeze just feels amazing. It makes it pleasant to walk around the city and streets filled of tourists or people getting off of work. I try to navigate through the sea of people, only my final destination on my mind.

The shop is closed, and I can see Lita cleaning through the glass door. I knock gently, startling her. I guess I should have texted her or something. She drops the broom and runs to unlock the door. "Hey! You're here early!"

"Yeah I thought I could just hang out here for a while." I just shrug. She smiles brightly and lets me in. The smell hits me immediately, I've missed it here. She drags me towards her office, telling me to wait there while she finishes cleaning and stuff.

The room is pretty dark, the sun is setting and not as much light is coming through the windows. I turn on the lights, but they're too harsh, and I end up turning them off, opting to use Lita's desk lamp that I know isn't as harsh, and is actually giving a warm glow to the room. That's definitely better.

I walk around, browse through the shelves. Some of the books she has there, I know she also has at home. There are new pictures. Some from Julie's birthday, damn I would have loved to be there. Others are from Lita's trip back in may, I recognize some of the pictures she sent me. There are also new drawings, mostly Rose's.

You know what she should add to the room? Fairy lights tor something. It could look nice with the rest of the decorations. I'll have to tell her about that.

I sit on the couch, tired of standing and looking through her stuff. I'm going through my phone, I look through my emails really quick, as well as check a few important messages. And within a minute of sitting down, my eyes close, and I can't fight the tiredness.

"Scarly." A voice says in a sing-song voice and I feel someone shake my shoulders.

"Scaaaarly."

Okay fine.

"Scarlett, it's time to wake up." I groan and slowly open my eyes. Lita is standing right in front of me smiling. I feel so shitty right now, I just wanna go back to sleep. But Lita is annoying and decided poking my cheek every time I close my eyes was a good idea to keep me awake. "Finally! Sleeping beauty is awake!"

"Ha ha you're so funny!"

"I know." She hands me a glass of water and I down it quickly, the cool liquid soothing the back of my throat. That felt nice. I watch as she packs her stuff. I swear she can fit anything in her bag. First her laptop, then a folder, add to that her keys, her phone, an external charger, pens, and a bunch of other stuff I don't care to list. This girl is like Mary Poppins. "You ready to go?" She extends her hand to grab mine and pulls me up, I just know none of us will let go anytime soon.
