Wattpad better not ban me for saying this, but I just wish November would be a special month dedicated to accepting people from different walks of life. I remember coming back online on Halloween break when a fellow writer posted about how the platform is supposedly banning anyone for stating their religious beliefs (specifically Christians).
I had to remove anything that could disclose my faith and stay low-key across multiple platforms just to be sure. If you're curious about the changes I've made for "A Quirky Writer's Odyssey," I just took out the part where I used to attend a religious event.
If this one is true, then I have to ask: Is it even necessary to get someone in trouble with the Wattpad gods for openly expressing their beliefs (e.g. spam reporting)? Even if you have personal reasons to be uncomfortable seeing it, not all of them is gonna hurt you.
This reminds me of how people get profiled because of their race and blacklisted from their jobs for even having a disability or mental issues.
I thought Wattpad is built on acceptance and creativity. It's what made me join the community in the first place. I just wish they could help prevent others from getting unfairly banned. What's next, get banned for breathing?
I will only be revealing this online, but I am not religious. I am more of a skeptic. At first, I was afraid to express my own thoughts in fear of being treated differently. I mostly say things which my family and peers would prefer to hear. I still attend religious gatherings and force myself to pray so I don't get labelled a sacrilegious punk. I am very careful with the art I make because scary stuff is what got me in trouble with my folks as a kid.
I also ask the parents on this platform to teach kids tolerance. If we're so used to hanging out with people who act and think the same way as we do, it's gonna affect our future relationships with others and prevent us from seeing their unique perspectives. That way, we don't have to make multiple accounts on Wattpad out of paranoia.
I am sharing this so people would be aware of how differences shouldn't be stigmatized. Let's make the world a better place for everybody.
