CHAPTER 37: BURN

ERIS' POV

I remember us leaving the airport in a hurry. We checked the car for possible sabotage like a broken brake pedal, and we also looked for incendiary devices, but there were none. We didn't get far before someone crashed on us.

"Hold on!"

I have never seen him like this. Fear is evident in his eyes, but it's the guilt that I can see in him that hits me the hardest. If something happens to me... If I get hurt... I know that he'll let that guilt consume him. Blaze is so much more like me than he thought he was. We hurt when the ones we love get hurt. We suffer more when those we care about does too.

If something in deed happens to me, I don't want him to blame himself. "We're going to be okay."

"I'm sorry."

"Don't be. It's okay, Blaze." "I'm not scared. I'm with you. I'm going to be okay because you're here."

The water swallowed the car with us in it. It was dark and the sound of the water around us felt eerie. It was also cold. So cold.

When I turned to him, that's when I realized it. The car brake wasn't sabotaged nor was there a bomb. But they did something to the air bags because they didn't deploy.

"Blaze..."

He cautioned my impact, but nothing stopped the collision of his own body. He's leaning on the steering wheel and he's unconscious.

Trickle of water hit me and I saw that the crash did damage to the windshield.

I started sawing on the belt, but it wasn't easy. There's a reason why seat belts are made with strong material. It's supposed to hold you in place.

I know that it won't be long before the windshield breaks.

I can feel my head throbbing but I ignored it. Whatever injury I may have it could fucking wait.

I muttered a silent curse when his own seat belt didn't budged. I need to get us out of here. I'm not leaving him.
