Hunter's POV
The long road home has given me time to think. It has brought back countless memories. Memories of my friendship with Lani. Memories of how selfish I have always been.
The boys were so quiet. Nobody spoke. All in their thoughts. Most probably thinking about what an ass I have been. I don't blame them at all. I have been the worst friend to Lani.
Only because I wanted to protect her from me. It has always been the hardest thing. Knowing that I loved her more each day but didn't want to ruin her. She was too precious to me.
Nobody actually understood, I only confided in Kade. I guess that's why he stood up for me at times.
The end of the drive was upon us. Even though most of it was silent, I spoke up. "Look guys, I know I messed up. I need to just talk to her, that's all. Explain to her . . ." "Explain what H?+ That she's too good for you? That you're an idiot? What's there to explain?" Vance was raging. I had never seen him like this.
In a whisper I answered "I need to tell her why she is better off without me."
