I barely slept the whole night, sighing in defeat when sunrise shone through my open curtains. My mind was facing a battle I didn't know if I'd win, one way or another I would die and the timeframe on both was hazy at best. I trudged into the kitchen, a little stomp to my footsteps considering how annoyed my inner wolf was that I wouldn't settle. I couldn't face Ethan so soon after last night so I finished making breakfast as Raula waltzed into the kitchen, positively glowing with happiness

"Ace my darling! How are you doing this morning?" She kissed my cheek and poured herself a cup of coffee, the smile on her face never leaving for a second

"I'm good Raula. Can you serve this morning? I have a lot to do today." I forced a fake smile onto my cheeks to ease my mother figure's worries and she nodded, kissing my temple before taking the food through to the pack. The workers filed in next so I plated up their food and served it, sitting myself down with only a few sausages on my plate

"Alpha Lupus and the pack are going out again tomorrow for that secret mission. We'll clean the off-limits areas once they're gone." Louvel was talking to no one in particular but I nodded, grateful for some form of distraction from the war raging inside my head.

"I'll ask Honi what time they're leaving so we can get the supplies ready." Adolfina looked half asleep but I was glad there was conversation, considering Jet hadn't uttered a word since he walked in

"I think we should snoop through his stuff. He spends his evenings doing something and I want to know what." The younger twin shrugged casually but my eyes widened, not wanting to disrespect Ethan's privacy

"Or maybe we could not do that? We'll be killed immediately when he finds out!" My voice was a little higher than I intended, but Louvel burst out laughing at my response, wiping a tear from her eyes

"Damn Ace I was just joking, glad you were listening though. Seemed like you weren't with us for a second there." She was smirking, brown hair tied up in a messy bun but I rolled my eyes in response

"Jet isn't talking either. Why don't we bully him for it?" I pouted, whining slightly that I was being targeted.

"I don't think you want me to tell them why I'm not talking Ace." Jet finally spoke, giving me a pointed stare and I swallowed thickly, remembering how Ethan had put the blonde-haired wolf in his place just yesterday.

"In my defence, you kind of had it coming Jet. Maybe you should read the room once in a while." My inner wolf was still fired up from all of the debating I'd been doing so the comeback left my lips before I could stop it. Realising that we had an audience, I stood to clear my plate whilst a deafening silence enveloped the room

"What the fuck happened with you two?" Honi appeared from the doorway and I looked over to her, the muscles below her navy training shirt even bigger than the last time we spoke; being a part of the pack was good for her.

"It's nothing. I just know where I stand now with Ace." Jet spat and I widened my eyes, trying to think of something sincere to say but all I could think of were spiteful comments. I loved the way Ethan had put the gardener in his place, and whilst I hadn't fully processed what 'Ace is mine' meant, my inner wolf loved the sound of it. I sighed and went into the dining room to clear the plates. As I placed all of the glasses into the wicker basket, I focused hard on my movements because I didn't particularly feel like shattering more of the Alpha's glassware. I stood straight when all of the clear pieces were safely inside the basket, turning around with the wicker and almost immediately dropping it when I caught startling hazel eyes staring straight into mine. I froze on the spot but as before, the Alpha caught the wooden container before it hit the ground and I exhaled harshly, feeling my heart pound in my chest
