He departed with his shidi, Jiang Cheng, to remote mountain where they were supposed to search for clues together.

The thing is, Lan Xichen has also come to understand why his brother had been so smitten with the boy. Part of the Between a rock and a hard place series, can be also read as stand-alone fan fiction but I recommend to read it after the previous parts of the series.
