"I love you" Jess beamed, standing up to hug Nathan. Who else would've agreed to give the kitten such a name? Nathan froze for a spare second before hugging Jess back. She didn't know that those words, said in such a casual way, could be a dagger through his heart. When they pulled apart, Jess was struck by a sudden realisation: "We should use a code name for him, though. You know, around the others. To avoid suspicions." "Right," Nathan agreed. "I'm calling dibs on this one. We'll call him Jamie. It's a person's name, so it'll sound like we're talking about a friend of ours. As easy as that." Genius idea. "Deal." "And we'll make sure no one steps into your room all of a sudden" Nathan added. "That shouldn't be too hard. You're the only one who comes in without knocking." "Hey," Nathan became defensive. "That only happened once!" Jess laughed. "Relax, I was just kidding." When the room fell silent, Jess laid Suga down on her bed and they both sat down to play with him. All that attention had Suga on cloud nine. And sitting so close to Jess, sharing such an intimate moment with her, also got Nathan on cloud nine. For a split second, he actually imagined them taking care of Suga as if they were a couple. Then, Alec's name popped up in his head, having on him the same effect of a cold shower that washed away any hope, and he felt the need to run away from that very source of hope.
