Laden Stories

This is a poem I wrote back in 2011 as an undergraduate for my Creative Writing module. This was the first piece I wrote in the style of Carol Ann Duffy's collection, "The World's Wife."

13 year old Alex Sades is trapped down in a cave after the great World War X, the war that destroyed the Earth. All countries were involved. None were neutral. Alex was hit by a glass arrow that glided straight through his ribs. He passed out, And awoke in a cave. He heard voices. "America is finished." And, "Now we attack Mexico and Canada. Split the troops. This will be easy.". He was filled to the brim with anger. He wants to explode his fiery and kill them both. But he couldn't move. His left hand. It was chained to a hardened dirt wall, probably 10 feet deep. He sat up and saw the men. One was around 20. The other was around 40 or 50. He recognized both immediately. How could this be- the rumors, the legend, they are true? He didn't want to believe it. But he had to. Osama Bin Laden is still alive.

Carrie knew the terror of September 11th was approaching almost a year before it happened. But who would listen? and.... Who wanted her silenced? "March 1, 2001- The news on Bush bombing Iraq did not stay in the media very long. I find that a little strange. In fact, it disappeared a little too quickly. It was in and out the same week. Why are we not questioning that a newly elected President is bombing Iraq after being in office only six weeks? Honestly, it is like, ‘daddy’s son getting revenge’. He is getting revenge on Saddam for trying to kill his dad AND using our resources!? Oh, great. Am I the only one seeing this insanity?"

I'm going to tell you a secret/ and I hope that you can keep it./ I think I've lost my mind/ for to be insane I seem inclined.

Jenna is lugged off to Minnesota to spend virtually her whole summer there with her family. She is not happy about it, nor excited. That is, until she meets a group of boys who ultimately change her life. Description sucks but the story is better!
