Blythe is schizophrenic, or at least she supposedly is. Her best friend is a German man named Fritz, who teaches her german and how to play chess; between other things. The problem is, Fritz isn’t real.
Her parents isolated her from the world and tried everything to try to forget Fritz and get better, but the girl’s obsession with Fritz grew stronger as the years passed.
One night, her house catches on fire, which kills Blythe’s parents. As the authorities investigate they find out that the fire wasn’t accidental, which leads them to think that Blythe’s schizophrenia led her to a state of pyromania, therefore blaming her for the fire and her parent’s death.
Blythe runs away, avoiding getting caught. She has no idea where she’s going, she can’t find Fritz anywhere and has no experience in the real world; she decides to hide in an alley, but soon finds out that she has bumped into someone else’s hiding place….
