The Bulldog of Kyoto follows Hachi-7, a precise elder-care robot, and Winston, an aging English bulldog who has inherited a Kyoto machiya after the death of his eccentric owner, Professor Eleanor Whitcombe. When greedy relatives and later a polished developer try to turn Winston's home and neighborhood into something profitable, Hachi-7, Clara Whitcombe, and the lane's stubborn residents are pulled into a comic fight over inheritance, preservation, and what it means to care for a place. At the center is Winston himself: smelly, obstinate, beloved, and forever sitting exactly where everyone needs him not to sit - an accidental guardian of a messy, living Kyoto street.
