Skylar's POV
I hate mornings, especially this one. First I'm not allowed to fight till God knows when and now I have to buy that gorgeous douche bag lunch.
"Dad I'm leaving!" I shout from the front door as I put my shoes on
"Aren't you waiting for us?" He comes down with a very pink dressed Giana
"No, I'll just take the bus. I want to be early today." I say slinging my backpack over my shoulder
"Okay honey just be safe." He kisses my forehead
I don't even know how but I find myself walking to school instead. I guess this whole Ben thing is getting to me, I hope he dies in an alley somewhere!
It takes me about 30 minutes to get to school. It's a good thing I left home early because the bell rings just as I enter the crowded hallway.
I make my way to my first class surprisingly finding Ray and Kendrick in their seats and the teacher isn't even here yet.
I send Karen a smile and a light wave as I find my way to my usual seat.
"Hey, why are you so late?" Ray asks as Kendrick and him make their way to where I'm seated
"I walked here." I bluntly answer
"Did you miss the bus? You know you could've just called me and I would've come to pick you up." Kendrick says
He's being nice... willingly.. May be this day won't be bad after all.
"I didn't miss the bus, I was on my way to the bus stop but found myself walking to school." I explain
"Okay we were starting to worry that you might have dropped out of school and you wouldn't be able to buy Ken his lunch." Ray says and Kendrick fist bumps him
How far back can I roll my eyes
"I should be the one worried because you guys are early to class, you even got here before me." I raise my brow
"What can we say Skylar, I guess we are more committed to learning than you are." Kendrick shrugs making me laugh
"You wish, no one is more committed than I am." I lightly shove him
"The only thing you should be committed to right now is buying my lunch." Kendrick laughs
Butthole. I'll redeem myself soon and he'll have to buy me lunch until we graduate, ha!
The teacher walks in and the boys take their respective seats
Vicky dear walks into the classroom shortly after looking exhausted. She looks terrible with dark bags under her eyes and an extremely messy bun
"Miss Santiago, I don't appreciate tardiness and you should know this. Detention after school, go take your seat." Mrs Greenwood scolds
Victoria rolls her already tired eyes and takes her seat at the back with the boys. She doesn't even spare me a glance
It is a good day after all...
Lunch comes by quickly. Kendrick and I are in line for our food and the idiot is making life difficult for me, the lunch lady, infact the entire cafeteria!
"Should I have the pizza slice or the chicken sandwich. No, maybe I'll take the burger.. But th-"
"Just pick already!" The lunch lady and I say in unison
"Fine. I'll have the chicken wrap with a side of fries and a coke." He finally orders
He gets his food and I quickly order mine not wanting to create a pitch fork mob due to Kendrick holding up the line. I pay for both our meals and we walk back to our table
"Thank you for the food Circus girl." He says grinning like a five year old
Oh he's enjoying this...
"I should've just bought you peanuts." I roll my eyes at him
"What?! Don't tell me you finally got your acceptance letter from the circus." He gasps "I'm so happy for you, I knew you'd get in."
Out of all the countries to birth me in Lord, you pick this one?
"I am not in the circus you goof. I don't even know why I agreed to be friends with you honestly." I say speeding up my pace
"You guys have been gone a while." Gabby says as I reach the table before Kendrick
"Somebody was taking his sweet time to order his food." I say looking disapprovingly at Ken as he takes his seat
"Hey, it's not my fault I'm indecisive." He shrugs making me want to strangle him
Vicky dear hasn't said a word and that is surprising considering that her smart mouth is of 24/7 service. She's picking at her food and not actually eating it, I think I'm worried.
"Are you okay Victoria?" I sincerely ask and she stops her actions to look at me and so does everyone else at the table. They literally stopped chewing their food, frozen in place
Did I accidentally insult anybody?
"Why do you care? It's all your fault anyway!" She angrily says roughly stabbing her fork into her food, standing up and walking off
Well that was not weird at all...
"What did you do to her?" Karen asks
"Nothing, I haven't done anything to her." I lie
I'm pretty sure she's like that because of SkyHigh. Is revealing my identity really that important to her, why?
"She's probably just on her period." Seth shrugs
Huh...
"What makes you think so?" Ray asks Seth
"All females have mood swings when they're on their period." He says matter-of-factly
"Shut up Seth." Karen says and everyone resumes to eating their food
"Let's go to the park after school." Gabby suggests "I'm babysitting my little siblings and I don't want to be alone for that long."
"I have a match tonight so I can't go and so do you Ken. We have to do warm ups before then so unfortunately we can't make it." Ray says a little disappointed that he can't spend time with his significant other
"What match?" Karen asks
"Street fighting." Ken answers
"Wow, the rumours are true then. You all street fight?" She curiously asks pointing between the boys
"Yes, how did you not figure that out already? They have cuts and bruises almost all the time." Gabby says
True.
"Well yeah, I thought they are from fighting at school. What else don't I know?" Karen runs a hand through her hair
Oh nothing, maybe just that I'm the most wanted street fighter of all time.
The bells rings on cue and we discard our trash on our way out.
"You can bring your siblings over to the diner, that way you won't technically be babysitting on your own." I say to Gabby as the six of us exit the cafeteria
"Oooh I want to come too. See you guys later!" Karen says as she rushes off to her class
What do you guys have?" Ray asks swinging his arm on Gabby's shoulders
"Chemistry." Gabby and I say in unison
"Come on Seth, we're going to be late." I grab Gabby and Seth each by their arms taking them with me after shouting a 'see ya' to the boys
The rest of the school day goes well. Vicky dear is acting weird and I'm not kidding, I'm seriously worried about her.
"Hey Astrid." I say as I go behind the counter
"Hello dear, how was school today?" She asks with a lovely smile on her face
"It was okay except for the part where I had to buy Kendrick lunch." I say rolling my eyes at the thought of it
She laughs and makes her way towards the back. Gabby soon enters the diner with the twins, cute little Taylor and Laila.
"Hey, where's Karen?" I ask as she takes a seat on the stool after helping Taylor and Laila get on theirs
"I don't know, she's probably on her way." She shrugs
"Hey Taylor, hey Laila." I say to the adorable twins
"Hi Skylar." They say in unison
I go to the back and get them milkshakes and fries. A burger and a sprite for Gabby
"Eat up." I say as I set the food in front of them.
After getting orders of the other customers, I come back to Gabby because there is a certain elephant in the room that needs to be addressed
"So.... how's it going with you and Raynold?" I ask and watch her eyes go wide and nearly choke on her food
"I don't know what you're talking about." She denies
"I'm not dumb Gabbs, I didn't think of it as anything earlier but that day of the ball and the days that followed, you both confirmed my suspicion. So don't even try to deny it." I wiggle my eyebrows
She looks over to the twins who are too engrossed in their food to even care about what we're talking about
"Fine. He hasn't officially asked me out yet but he did tell me that he likes me." She blushes
Ha! I knew it.
"Do you like him?" I ask
"Yeah but I didn't tell him that yet." She says sipping on her drink
Awww young love..
"What are you waiting for? The reason why he might have not asked you out first is because you haven't told him how you feel about him. You should tell him." I advice
"I will but please don't tell anyone else about it. I'll tell Karen when I'm ready that's if she hasn't already figured it out." She says
"Karen is oblivious to a lot of things, trust me she doesn't know." I assure her "Don't worry, your secret is safe with me." I pretend to lock my lips
She laughs at this and sends me a genuine smile of gratitude.
"Thank you so much. Your secret is safe with me too." She says
If she thinks I like Kendrick, she's very mistaken.
"What secret?" I ask, my eyebrows furrowed
"You know, the whole illegal fighting thing. You seriously didn't think I didn't know did you?" She whispers
