Prologue.

I run through the forest. Branches whipping my face. Small rocks and twigs on the forest floor ripping my bare feet to shreds.

The roaring wind brings a message as it slides past my ears. 'Daire . . . Daire . . . come to me . . . Daire . . .'

I run and run through the merciless forest until I come to a black pond that reflects the moonlight.

'Daire . . . where are you? . . . Please, Daire . . .'

Without thinking I dive into the inky depths of the pond, trying to get away from something. Something that I can't quite remember. Something that's on the edge of my memory. But whatever it is - it is wrenched from my mind when the blinding pain shoots through my body.

It's happening just like the boy said it would. The boy with hair as black as the water that is filling my lungs as I scream from the pain, and with eyes that are so black that when you look in them you can see your own face. My mysterious raven boy whose name I can't quite remember.

As the darkness descends and I pass out I remember flashes; the moon, his hair, my face reflected in his eyes. Also his lips . . . always his lips.

'Daire . . . Daire . . . remember . . .'
