This is going to be difficult, Johnny thought as he ran his fingers through his hair.
He had organized a meeting with Doyoung for the next morning but a part of him was quite nervous. He knew if Doyoung had lied so easily without any of them noticing anything off, then Doyoung probably had many more secrets hidden.
Johnny's uneasiness spread towards his work, making it difficult for him to focus. He tried working on other cases but it was no use, there was no way he was doing more work that night.
Jaehwa had left, having to help out with her so called car wash but Johnny knew better than that. Everything about the girl during their first meeting made it quite obvious that she was part of a gang.
Johnny grabbed his phone, going through his contacts. He soon realized that he only had four numbers saved, Taeil's, Mark's, Donghyuck's, and Jaehwa's.
Great.
Johnny looked at the time, noticing it wasn't too late.
What to do?
Johnny typed into his computer, looking for the schedule. Once he found what he was looking for, he returned to his phone, sending one of his four contacts a message.
...
"How did Jaehyun deal with this?" Jaehwa groaned, staring at the bills that had came in.
Ten shrugged his shoulders. "Not sure but you better pay them. Last thing we want is the police coming here and arresting us all because you forgot to pay the rent for this place."
Jaehwa shot him a glare. "I won't let that happen."
Ten quickly realized his mistake, sensing that jail was a sensitive topic. "Sorry Jaehwa, dumb joke."
Jaehwa sighed, running her fingers through her hair. "It's alright, I know you didn't mean it."
Jaehwa had went home to change before going to the bar, feeling more at home in her regular clothes.
"Anyways, I'll deal with this later." Jaehwa said, folding up the bill and placing it in her pocket. "I need to relax, this murder case is driving me insane."
"Did you find anything?" Ten asked. "Any closer to getting Jaehyun out?"
Jaehwa shook her head. "Not really. Just a bunch of things that make zero sense."
Ten slowly nodded his head. "I'm sure you'll figure it out."
"I hope so." Jaehwa muttered.
"Ten, come join us!" Winwin called, standing at a pool table on the corner with Yuta, beers beside them.
Jaehwa could feel Ten's eyes on her, silently asking for approval.
"Go, go enjoy your night." Jaehwa said, waving him off. "I'll be fine."
"You enjoy yours too." Ten said, heading off to where the other members of the gang were.
Suddenly, Jaehwa's phone buzzed. She had received a message from Johnny.
Before she could read it though, she felt an arm wrap around her. "Yah, I know you're busy and all but I hope you didn't forget about tomorrow night."
It was Sooyoung.
"Tomorrow night?" Jaehwa asked, turning to her friend. Sooyoung nodded.
"It's club night! I know Jaehyun isn't here but how could you forget?" Sooyoung asked with a pout.
"Sorry, I'm not used to seeing you being normal and not trying to get with my brother." Jaehwa said, sticking out her tongue.
"Well I would if I could." Sooyoung mumbled before glancing over her shoulder. "Who's Johnny? And why is he asking you out to the movies?"
Huh?
"He's no one." Jaehwa said, sliding her phone in her pocket but Sooyoung already had a big smirk on her face.
"Sureeeee." Sooyoung said, stretching out the word. "Is that who you've been seeing during the day instead of helping out?"
"No!" Jaehwa immediately exclaimed but Sooyoung knew her too well.
"Anyways, he sounds pretty desperate so you should probably respond. Invite him to the club too, I want to meet him." Sooyoung said, crossing her arms.
If only you knew he was a detective.
"We'll see." Jaehwa said, turning back to her phone to reply to Johnny.
...
Johnny could tell that Jaehwa was surprised to see Johnny out of his typical suit and tie outfit, sporting a black sweater with white jeans instead.
Honestly, she shouldn't be the one judging, Johnny thought as Jaehwa made her was to him, already back in all black.
"What?" Johnny asked as Jaehwa gave him a look.
"Didn't know you actually had style." Jaehwa said to him.
Johnny rolled his eyes, shoving his hands in his pockets. "Maybe I should have watched this movie alone."
This brought a smile to Jaehwa's face, the girl giving him a light shove.
"Maybe you should have. But then again, that's lame and extremely sad."
Johnny chuckled motioning to the doors of theatre. "Shall we go inside?"
"I don't know, you can stay out here if you want. But I'm heading in." Jaehwa said with a wink before making her way inside.
This girl.
Johnny couldn't help but shake his head as he made his way inside as well, catching up as well.
...
"Mystery-thriller, huh?" Jaehwa said as they two sat in the theatre, watching the commercials.
"Yeah, just looking for inspiration, you know." Johnny said.
Jaehwa was leaning on the armrest between her seat and Johnny's, occasionally reaching over to grab a handful of popcorn from the bucket in Johnny's lap.
"Sure." Jaehwa said, reaching over without looking but was surprised when she grabbed human flesh instead of popcorn.
Her head instinctively turned towards the male but it didn't help that Johnny's face was only inches from hers.
"You know," Johnny whispered, removing his hand from the bucket so Jaehwa could grab what she wanted. "If you wanted to hold hands so badly, you could have just asked."
Jaehwa could feel her cheeks flush as she quickly grabbed a handful, deciding to sit straight again.
"I wasn't expecting your hand to be in the way." Jaehwa spat, trying to keep her cool but Johnny's wide grin told her she wasn't doing a good job.
"Whatever you say."
Jaehwa was thankful that the movie was beginning, putting a halt to the awkward moment between them.
Jaehwa had to admit, Johnny had a good taste in movies. The film he had selected was quite entertaining, showcasing a detective trying to solve a murder case. The clues and ideas that the detective had were quite outside of the box, and Jaehwa was curious as to whether or not they were actually feasible in real life.
As the credits rolled, Jaehwa couldn't help but think back to their own case, and tears began brimming her eyes as she recalled that her last night with her brother.
We were supposed to watch a movie together.
Suddenly, she felt a hand softly petting her head.
"Don't worry, Jaehwa. We'll get him out soon."

Was Johnny certain that Jaehyun was innocent? No.
But there was something about Jaehwa that convinced him otherwise.
Being a detective, he was always careful about who to trust, scared that they were secretly hiding things behind his back. Johnny didn't feel that with Jaehwa though.
Maybe it was the way they met, the passion in her eyes as she insisted on freeing her brother. Or maybe it was her willingness to help, sitting with him for hours, doing nothing but checking up on Johnny, making sure he ate his meals and rested when needed.
There was just something about the girl that attracted him to her, and Johnny had no idea what it was.
"Thanks for joining me, it was nicer than watching it alone." Johnny said as they exited the theatre.
"I had nothing better to do anyways." Jaehwa said before stopping and turning towards him. "What are you doing tomorrow night?"
"Huh?"
A million thoughts began running through Johnny's head.
Why is she asking this? Does she want to go out? Dinner? Is this a date? Oh my gosh does she think we're dating now?
"You know what, forget it." Jaehwa said, turning away.
Johnny quickly grabbed the girl's wrist, stopping her from getting too far. "Jaehwa, wait."
Johnny felt his heart drop to his stomach as the girl turned around, her hair perfectly framing her elegant facial features.
Johnny swallowed the lump in his throat. "I don't have anything planned so if you want to do something, just let me know."
Jaehwa simply nodded her head, her arm slipping away from Johnny's grip.
"I'll message you the details then."
Johnny could only stare at the figure walking away from him, hopping into her motorcycle before driving off into the night.
