"What do girls even do at sleepovers?" Jeno questioned, ruffling his hair with a towel as he walked into the room.

"Hyerin and Seorin could be making out right now, who knows." Renjun shrugged, eyes on the projector as he watched the game play out.

"Wouldn't be surprised." Jeno responded.

Jisung audibly groaned as he watched his character die, throwing his controller to the side. "This sucks, weekends are for me and Seorin to hang out." a small pout formed on his face at the thought of his girlfriend.

"Me too, Hyerin always comes over on the weekends since she's always so busy with volleyball." Jaemin complained, mindlessly scrolling through his phone.

An audible scoff was heard from the beanbag, followed with angry button mashing. "Whatever, you guys need time to stop thinking about them." The passive aggressive voice was Hyuck's, rolling his eyes at their whining.

"Yeah! It's a dude's night, when's the last time we hung out without one of the girls around?" Chenle chirped, making the two boyfriends sulk in their seats.

"I hate it here." Jisung mumbled, shoving his face into a pillow.

"Quit whining, you see her everyday of the week. It's like you guys can't function without a girlfriend now." Hyuck grumbled, pressing the replay button on the screen.

The black haired boy's face scrunched up in annoyance, chucking a cushion at his head. "Don't be bitter that the only girl you show interest in has a boyfriend." he hissed. Chenle let out a low whistle, looking at the two in amusement.

"What are you talking about?" he scoffed, looking at the boy who just hit him with a pillow.

Jaemin chuckled, shaking his head at their pointless bickering. "You've been on edge the whole week since Minseo's been absent." he chimed in, fueling the fire of his anger.

Donghyuck's face wrinkled at the words. "I'm not on edge and that has nothing to do with Minseo."

"That was sort of contradictory, if you ask me." Renjun commented.

"What's the point in lying? Everyone knows." Jeno mumbled, making his annoyance grow even more.

"I don't like her— she has a boyfriend." Hyuck sternly enforced. Yet no one in the room bought it one bit, collectively bursting out into laughter.

"Sure, that's why Seorin found a tub of ice cream and a mixtape on her front lawn with tire marks on her driveway." Jisung rolled his eyes.

The boy paused in place for a second, feeling some sort of embarrassment after his small breakdown in front of her house.

"What was that about anyways? You could've at least left it in front of her door." Chenle wondered out loud. Hyuck let out a throaty sigh, remembering the image that he had tried to push away the entire week.

"I showed up when her boyfriend was leaving. I wasn't even trying to flirt, I just wanted her to feel better." he admitted, almost humiliated at the instance.

"All the way from Bicheon? Sheesh." Jeno pursed his lips together, aware that the drive wasn't an easy one. Jisung kept quiet knowing the truth behind Minseo's identity, unwilling to sell her out.

"Yeah, what a good boyfriend, I know." Hyuck's tone laced with obvious sarcasm.

Jaemin looked at him with empathy, softening his gaze as he saw through his cold front. "You could've just texted her you were outside- a good boyfriend would still allow her to see you." he cracked a small smile.

His eyes lowered at his friend's sympathy, almost annoyed at the pity.

A good boyfriend, why am I even lying?

"It'd be real awkward if I showed up right after their supposed heated make out session." he bluntly got off his chest, making the room fall silent.

The messiness of his hair, the undone zipper- that damned strawberry lipgloss roughly smeared on his face that he knew all too well from staring at the lips he knew he could never touch.

He couldn't decipher whether it was envy or heartbreak, but he knew it was a feeling that made his stomach churn in the most discomforting way. It made him wanna spark a fire and throw it to the closest thing next to him, raging like the fury built up in his chest.

"I mean, he can't be that great of a dude. There has to be something wrong with him." Chenle shrugged.

As much as he wanted to believe it, he couldn't help but think he was just psychoanalyzing, painting him as the antagonist in his head because of his undeniable feelings towards her.

After all, she still says she loves him.

"He's smart, top of his class, six foot. This guy has everything I don't."

Renjun's eyebrows raised in surprise. "Six foot, that's tough." he mumbled quietly.

Jisung rolled his eyes, recalling all the times Minseo would cry to him and Seorin about the 'perfect boyfriend' they all claim him to be. "We both know he treats her like shit, she's just too blind to get that through her head." he grumbled.

"That's why she's at Seorin's house in the first place, this girl hates her relationship." he added, shrugging his shoulders as he texted back his girlfriend. Although the words were harsh, he still felt the sympathy they held through his cold tone.

"You're better than him in every way, Minseo's just too attached."

They resonated in his head, his emotions in a game of tug of war. Of course he's heard his fair share of questionable things Seongbin had done to her, even comforted her as a shoulder to cry on.

Yet, at the end of the day, they're still together for a reason— right?

If we were meant to be, we would've been by now.

The sound of his phone ringing brought him out of his thoughts, head tilting at the sudden call.

INCOMING CALL
minseo :)
ACCEPT | DECLINE

His expression was surprised after receiving some sort of contact from her after dozens of unread messages. Minseo had been unresponsive, ignoring not just him, but everyone in their group.

"Hello?" he spoke, the confidence in his voice suddenly gone.

"Put it on speaker!" Chenle giggled, leaning onto his shoulder to get a better listen. Hyuck rolled his eyes as everyone gathered, tearing it away from his ear to let it ring from the speaker.

"Hyuck?"

Her tone was as warm as ever, music to his ears. It made his heart lurch at the listen, missing the voice he hadn't heard in a week.

"Why'd you call, Minseo?" he asked genuinely, confused from hearing her out of the blue. Giggling was heard from the other end, familiar giggling at that.

Hyerin and Seorin were leaning on either of her shoulders as she set the phone on speaker. "You have to tell him he's the cutest boy in school." Seorin slurred, not audible enough to be heard on the other end.

"W-What?" Minseo gasped, placing a hand over her mouth.

"Minseo, are you okay?" Hyuck spoke again, all of the boys looking at the phone in confusion.

A sigh was heard from the girl, but he couldn't see the smile rising onto her lips. "Hyuck, you know I just- I don't know." she slurred, cheeks turning more red even under the Asian glow.

"Sort out your thoughts, it's been awhile since we've talked." he chuckled, the corners of his lips raising at her unexpectedly enthusiastic tone.

"Y-You're just.... so cute." she elongated, making his heart drop to his stomach. The squeals from the two other girls was just loud enough, making his eyebrows pinch together. Chenle's eyes widened, hitting the boy in excitement.

"Is this a joke?" Hyuck exhaled in disbelief.

"What? No! I mean, who doesn't think you're hot?" she gawked. Renjun let out a gag, dramatically coughing on the couch.

A crimson tint couldn't help itself from rising onto the boy's cheeks, unable to decipher whether she was genuine or not.

"Tell her you think she's cute too." Jaemin urged, making his eyes widen to almost twice the size. "You're fucking crazy." he groaned, inconsiderate of the thought.

"Y-You think I'm fucking crazy?" Minseo stuttered on the other end, making Hyuck's panic grow.

"No! I think you're-"

"Beautiful!" Chenle chimed in with his best Hyuck impression, making screams erupt through the speaker. He glared holes in his eyes before sparking a small flame at his fingertips as a warning.

"I didn't think you thought of me like that." Minseo sighed in relief on the other end, her lips growing into a wide grin. "To be honest, it's been bothering me a lot. Like, I don't know why I kinda just wish you thought of me— like, you know, if I were pretty and all that." she rambled mindlessly, words mixing in with one another.

Jisung shook his head at the realization, but kept his mouth shut to see his next move. Hyuck was speechless, unsure of how to take it.

"Tell her you think of her!" Jeno whispered yelled. He pressed his lips into a fine line shutting his eyes, praying that this wasn't just some silly prank.

"Of course I think about you." he mumbled just coherently enough. Silence filled the space between them for a bit, regret slowly washing over him as he thought he messed up.

"Really? I don't know why, but I find myself thinking of you all the time." she sighed with a smile on her face. "Oopsies, Hyerin said I said too much!" she spoke quickly before the call ended abruptly.

Hyuck looked up in disbelief, unsure of how to take their shared conversation.

"She was drunk, I know how Seorin laughs when she's drunk. Plus, her words were too slurred." Jisung cut through the brief quietness.

For some reason, he felt his heart break momentarily, as if he couldn't hold her words to be true. It was too good to be true.

"But you know what they say, drunk words are just sober thoughts." the black haired boy shrugged, a smirk forming on his lips.

And even though there was people around him, Donghyuck was left alone with the echoes of her sweet, drunken consolations, wondering if maybe he was living in her mind the same was she was- rent free.
