Nico's POV
I was in a park in New York with my sister, Bianca and my mom. We just moved here from Italy because Mamma wanted to live in New York since she was a kid, so when she got a job, she started saving money to go there. Then she met my dad, they fell in love and he helped her to accomplish her dream. They had my sister, two years later they had me, but after months after I was born my dad died, murdered my mom said, so I never met him. My mom got really sad, but still manage to raise us on her own. Six years later, my mom got enough money to move here, New York. We arrived last week, and came to this park for the first time to meet new people.
"God, how people do this?" I said while walking on the sidewalk holding Mamma's hand and Bianca's, "Do they just go to a random stranger and say 'Hey! Wanna be friends?' That's what they do?"
Mamma and Bianca laughed, "No mio caro, they just see someone they think they'll like, say hello, and start a conversation. Don't think too much about it, is natural." Mamma said.
"Yeah but imagine that some random stranger comes to you" Bianca said "I would run like no tomorrow"
I laughed, "Good one Bi, but I think mamma is right, she's smarter than you anyways" Bianca smirked, "Oh really? Well I bet il mostro del solletico is even smarter" 'Oh god I know that smirk, she's gonna attack, I gotta run', I thought.
I let go of their hands and run to the slides in the park and heard Bianca yelling "I'm gonna get you! You need to run faster is you don't wanna have tickles!" And mamma shouting "Be careful! And don't go too far!" "Yes mamma!"
I ran for what felt like hours but probably were 5 minutes and get too tired to run. I got tackled to the ground and for a moment I got scared until I heard my sister's laugh "I got you! Now you'll be torture by il mostro del solletico!" And started tickling me, I laughed so hard I was almost crying and she finally stopped.
"Who's that?" She asked. "What are you talking about Bi, there is no one in this zone." I said.
"There sure is, look, over there" and pointed in the swings near some trees.
I got up from the ground and look the direction she pointed, and there he was a little elf like kid, with crazy curly brown hair and tanned skin, a little scrawny and with pointy ears, about seven years just like me. He looked kinda lonely, slowly swinging with his head down. I caught myself staring at him, he looked like a very interesting person, maybe that's what mamma was talking about, is natural. I needed to know more about him but I'm too nervous, I don't think I can. "Go Nico, I know you want to know him, and mamma said we needed to make friends." Bianca said.
"Are you sure? I don't think I can..."
"Go. I'll go tell mamma where you are and that you made a new friend" she smiled, waved and run to the bench where mamma was sitting.
'Ok Nico' I encourage myself 'You can do this, is not that hard you say hi, introduce yourself and ask him his name, no problem right? Is not like he's a serial killer... or is he?.... nah, he can't be.. I think...' I started walking to him more confident with every step until I sat down on the swing next to him. I felt him tensed and looked at me from the corner of his eye, so I did the same I look at him from the corner of my eye and when our eyes met he looked away with his cheeks flushed and start playing with the edge of his shirt.
Well, time to make a new friend.
