Chapter Four

It had been a while since I had seen Ayo. I was never able to catch him during his practice times but we chatted often; almost every night. We also talked lot on phone too but not so much.

I had come to like him. Far from love but it was something. I knew that we were heading towards anything but good friends. I was scared of it.

Relationships have always seemed like something far far away from now. I felt I would be 25 before I start dating or anything like that. But then I grew up and realized that being an adult was much closer than expected.

When I was young, I thought dating and love was for really old people but when I grew, I saw those really old people as teenagers and young adults. I was very, very far from ready.

Anyhow, I decided to see how it goes. How hard can it be huh? I could just go with the flow.

I laughed at the thought. He hadn't even shown any signs of asking me out and I was already looking so far into the future.

"You're so weird" Efosa said to me as she heard me laugh. We were currently at school and waiting for our next class which would start in about an hour. "What's making you laugh?"

I shook my head and waved my hands dismissively. "It's nothing."

She narrowed her eyes at me but let me be. Just then, my phone rang and Ayo's name flashed on the screen.

Speak of the devil...

"Hello."

"Hi Tara. How are you?"

"I'm fine o. I'm still in school"

"Aww, when can we see now?" He asked and I thought through my whole day.

"I won't be leaving school until five and I'd be tired by then. The same with tomorrow"

Yeah yeah, I was making excuses. I do that a lot. Get close to someone and then start pulling back.

"How about night-class?"

I bit my lips and squeezed my face. He is good.

I internally sighed. "I guess that's okay. When?"

"That's great then. How about tomorrow night? Good with you?" He asked and I nodded.

Then remembered I was on phone and then I spoke up. He hung up a while later and I turned to face Efosa.

"Girl, you know I love you right? You're like my best friend in the entire world. You know that right?"

"What do you want?" She deadpanned and I beamed

"Can you follow me to night-class tommorr-"

"Nooo!!"

"Please na. I'm desperate"

"No!! You know how I value my sleep."

"You think I too don't value my sleep. I love sleep okay, more than you. Please na Efosa, I'll do anything for you."

A smile started tugging at her lips and I realized that I had won her over.

"Okay.. I can't think of anything right now but later sha."

"Okiee. I love youuuu" And then I hugged her.

...

It was time. I packed up everything I needed and called Efosa to meet me at faculty. I didn't know what class Ayo wanted to use yet but I just got to school anyhow sha.

He waved me over when he spotted me and I smiled heading over to him. He surprised me with a hug but I pulled back almost immediately it started.

"How are you?"

"I'm good. Thank you. Where are we reading?" I asked and he just pointed to a random class where some people had already started reading. "I brought a friend o, hope you don't mind"

"Nah, it's good."

I quickly texted her telling herwhere we were. Since she hadn't started coming, we went on our own to buy some snacks before shops close.

"I like your hair." He said taking a braid in his hands. I made short fat braids with a hint of purple at the front side.

"Really? Thanks." I beamed. "Hey, why did you suddenly want to see me today?" I asked taking a stop and trying to face him.

"Why? You don't want me to see your pretty face"

I laughed. He's good.

"The real reason jhoor."

He shrugged. "I missed you and wanted to hang out with you." I smiled shyly not expecting his confession as we continued on our way.

Thankfully, I was saved from saying anything as we had arrived at June 12. I just bought a few snacks. Mostly chewing-gum and sweets. I like having my mouth moving at all times during the night class.

So, we were back to the class and I spotted Efosa sitting all by herself. I waved furiously meaning to catch her attention and she did. She smiled brightly as she caught sight of the both of us.

"Uhh, Ayo, this is my friend Efosa and Efosa, this is Ayo." I introduced the both of them while taking a seat and getting out my textbook. Maybe this isn't such a bad idea. At least I get to catch up on my topics that I have been postponing.

They exchanged pleasantries and we all just started reading.

After about an hour, everyone got a little tired so we just started talking. Sometimes, I wonder what the use is of night class. I end up not doing what I want.

"See this one, it's only ten and he has started sleeping." I looked to the boy Efosa was not – so – subtly pointing to. We both let out a laugh at that.

"Efosa, you are so mean." I tried to defend him. "It could be his first time. The first time I tried this shit, I couldn't keep my eyes open at all. It was terrible and you know how I love to sleep."

"What I don't just understand is why people bother coming to night class if they are just going to sleep through it all."

"Isn't that what we came here for. Mainly to hang out."Ayo said and I nodded in agreement.

"At least. We know that's what we are here for. Plus, we are reading."

I shook my head when I realized she wasn't going to give up her argument. "Whatever"

We all continued reading until about three hours later, I started to feel sleepy. I really tried to keep my eyes open but it just didn't work so I ended up falling asleep on the table and tried to be graceful in that too.

I woke up some time later and realized that Ayo and Efosa were just talking. I was sleepy so I didn't listen in on their conversation until I fell back asleep.

We all woke up about six am and I struggled to keep my eyes open while we headed home. This is the problem. After using night time for shit like this, the whole day just becomes stressful. Efosa wasn't heading the same way as us so she could go on her own.

"Jeez. I could faint right now." I said putting my hands to my forehead.

"Want me to carry you?" Ayo asked and my eyes widened. The sleep cleared from my eyes.

"What. No!" I exclaimed but he shrugged.

"Don't be so coy Tara. I'm sure you'd like that." I was seriously amazed at how flirty he seemed this morning. Hmm, I guess this is how he behaves in the morning.

"Stop jhoor." I said quickly and walked faster ahead of me. I heard him laugh and jog up to me. We didn't say much again until we separated and I went home and quickly brushed my teeth.

Cons of night-class.

After taking my bath, I dressed up for class but went to sleep since I had my first class around noon.

Oh bed, I'm sorry for ignoring you sometimes. I love you.

I laid down and let my eyes do the magic.
