Heartbreak Girl

Summary: the reader and him are super duper close and they are at a party and the reader has feelings for Asa that are beyond their friendship. She sees him with another girl and freaks out a little, running out into the rain. He chases after her and she claims to have always loved him and he kisses her in the rain because she's rambling about her feelings but he's always felt the same too.

"Why won't you come?" your best friend, Asa, asked as he followed you to your locker.

You looked over your shoulder, giving him a mean look. "You know that parties aren't my thing, Asa," you said, stopping at the slim locker door.

"But it's the last party of the year!" he exclaimed. "The last one before we go."

You looked up at him, who looked back, his eyes pleading. You shook your head. "Absolutely not."

"Why not?" he asked as you put your stuff away in your locker.

"I have to babysit my little brother," you said, shrugging. It was true, your parents were going to be out of town for the weekend and you were in charge until your older brother got back from university tomorrow night.

Asa sighed, defeated. "Fine."

Walking home, you waved goodbye to Asa as you walked over your lawn to get to the front door. Your younger brother, Sam, wasn't supposed to be home until later, so you had the home to yourself.

Unlocking the front door, you robotically closed the door behind you before slipping off your shoes and walking to the living room. Just as you set your backpack down on the couch, you heard a voice from behind you.

"Hey y/n," they said. "You're home early."

You whipped around to find your older brother, Jamie, standing in the kitchen, an apple in hand.

You clutched your chest for a moment.

"Jesus Jamie," you muttered. "I thought you were going to be home tomorrow."

"I was supposed to, but I decided to come home early. Take the load off you for the night," he said, sitting on the couch next to you.

You shrugged. "I had no plans for the night," you said, pulling your laptop out of your backpack.

"Then it will be a sibling's weekend," he smiled. "Just like we used to have."

You smiled. "That sounds great."

It was around 9 o'clock when you had finally gotten Sam to fall asleep. You quietly hummed to yourself as you pushed the last of your takeout dinner into a plastic container for later. Opening the refrigerator, you shoved the container in. You took notice of the beer bottles packed neatly into the back.

"Hey Jamie?" you called, your gaze still fixed on the beer. "Do you want a beer?"

"Yeah, sure," he called back.

You quickly took two bottles out, placing them on the counter while you searched for the bottle opener. After quite a battle to take off the lids, you walked out of the kitchen, bottles in hand.

"You're not old enough to drink," he said, furrowing his eyes as you passed him a bottle.

"Who's going to stop me?" you asked, before taking a long sip.

You were used to the taste of beer; you and Asa used to sneak drinks all the time when you were over at his house for sleepovers.

"Fair enough, just don't overdo it. I stopped carrying you to bed when you were 12," he said, taking a swig.

You laughed, shoving his shoulder.

"How are things with Eleanor?" you asked, folding your legs underneath you.

You and Jamie could always talk about anything and everything. You were only two years younger than him, so he knew how to work things out for you when things would get tough. As well, he knew that you would listen, you always listened to the stories he'd tell and he'd hear you retelling them to your friends at school when he passed by.

Jamie let out a deep sigh. "Not good. We... broke up last week," he said, rubbing the back of his neck.

You laid your head on his shoulder. "I'm sorry," you said quietly, as he wrapped an arm around you.

"Nah," he said, shaking his head. "It was a disaster from the start. I'm just glad it ended before I gave her this." He pulled out a ring, tossing it on the table.

"You were going to propose?" you asked, sitting up.

He shook his head again. "It's a promise ring."

"Oh."

"Yeah," he sighed. "It just didn't work out."

"Are you not upset?" you asked, curious about the way that he was taking it.

"I was devastated when it happened," Jamie said, a dry chuckle escaping. "I spent a full weekend just balling."

You rubbed his shoulder, trying to comfort him.

"I didn't want to come home because mom and dad would ask about her right away," he continued.

You nodded. It was silent for a minute.

"How's that Asa kid?" Jamie suddenly asked, looking over at you.

You looked down at your lap. "He's still... Asa. There's not much to say," you shrugged.

"You were in love with him y/n," Jamie said. "What happened?"

You shrugged.

"Are you still in love with him?"

You were quiet. You had given up all chances of you and Asa being a couple when he started dating Ella Purnell, a co-star in one of his movies. They seemed happy together, and you'd met her a few times. You tried to avoid them if you could as it brought so many feelings to the surface. When they broke up, you and Asa almost lost each other. You had been so distant that you were unaware that they broke up until you asked about it one day. You hadn't given thought to your feelings about him; you were so used to pushing them away. You couldn't deny the smile on your face whenever you heard his name or saw him in the hallway. You couldn't help but feel butterflies in your stomach whenever he hugged you goodbye when you would walk to your house.

"Yeah," you said after a few minutes. "I am."

"Are you guys dating?" Jamie asked, tipping the bottle into his mouth.

You shook your head. "No."

"Why not?" he asked, confused. "It's been 6 years in the making y/n. If you don't tell him, I'm going to."

"It's no use," you said, looking up at the television. "He's going to be filming for the rest of the year. He won't even be in the country."

"So? That doesn't mean that you guys can't be together," Jamie said, loudly. You cocked an eyebrow at him.

"I just don't think it would work out," you said, rubbing your arm.

"You haven't tried," he said. "Where is he tonight? At his house? You can walk over, it's only 9."

"He's at a party," you said, looking at the ceiling. "The final sixth form party."

"Why didn't you go?"

"I was supposed to watch Sam tonight."

"Well, now I'm here."

"And so?"

"Get out of your pyjamas and put something nice on," Jamie said, taking a swig of his drink. "You're going to that party."

You easily slipped out of your sweatpants and threw on a pair of jeans, too lazy to switch your Hello Kitty top. As you stepped into the living room, Jamie beamed with excitement.

"Look at my little sister, finally getting the man of her dreams!"

You glared at him, shuffling across the room to get to the front door.

"Bring an umbrella," Jamie called when you reached for the handle. "It's supposed to rain soon."

You quietly walked along the quiet road, humming a soft tune to yourself. The party wasn't too far from your house, which you were grateful for. Your small umbrella was tucked into your back pocket, and you couldn't help but feel nervous about the entire situation. How would you do this? Would you build up to it? Would you have a conversation? Should you just say it and get it done?

As you walked up to the house, it had just begun to rain, hard. You had just made it to the porch before the rain got too bad. Even just standing outside, you could hear the bass making the house vibrate.

Opening the door, you were met by a wall of people and lights; you'd never seen so many people in a house before. You timidly walked past a few groups of people, some recognising you and striking up a conversation. You just simply smiled at them for a moment before walking away. They knew you well enough that conversations, especially here, weren't your strong point.

You searched for Asa but to no avail. You walked around the crowded living room, pressing yourself against the wall and moving along it. Sure, you looked weird, but it was better than getting lost in whatever was happening in the middle of the room.

You mustn't have been paying attention as you hit a couple making out as you moved across the wall.

"Sorry," you said, looking up at the couple.

Your entire face paled as you made eye contact with one of them, Asa.

"Y/n?" he asked, almost unsure that you were even standing in front of him. He broke out into a smile, "You came!"

You glanced at him and back at the girl and then back at him. You quickly pushed yourself into the crowd of people, disappearing into it. It was a struggle to get out, but you eventually stumbled back to the door, a few tears running down your face.

You felt stupid. How could you even believe for a second that he had any feelings for you? It was all in your head.

As you stepped onto the porch, you groaned as you watched the rain pour down heavily. You reached into your back pocket only to find the umbrella gone; you must've dropped it inside. You didn't want to go back, so you walked out into the rain. Your hair immediately stuck to your face, but you continued down the lawn and onto the dimly lit road. You could feel warm tears streaming down your face, and at this point, you didn't care.

Was this what heartbreak felt like?

"Y/n!" you heard your name being called as you passed a stop sign halfway down the street.

You turned around to find Asa running down the street. You quickly turned back around, walking faster towards your home.

"Y/n!" he shouted, his voice raspy. "Please! Wait!"

You took a deep breath, stilling your actions. Over the pouring rain, you could still hear his heavy steps until they stopped almost directly behind you.

"Y/n," he said, somewhat out of breath. "What's wrong?"

You were quiet as he turned you to face him.

"What's wrong?" he asked, stronger. He tilted your chin up, forcing you to look at him. He was gently panting and his bangs were stuck to his forehead, beads of rainwater dripping down his face.

You shook your head, trying to move your head out of his grasp. His grip on you tightened, keeping you looking at him.

"What's wrong y/n?" he repeated, firmer.

"You wouldn't understand," you muttered, looking past him onto the empty street.

"Try me."

"It's nothing, Asa," you said, through gritted teeth.

"It's obviously not nothing."

"I'm in love with you Asa!" you exclaimed, pulling yourself from him and stomping a few feet away, holding your head in your hands. "I'm so in love with you Asa! So freaking much! And I'm an absolute idiot to think that you'd like me back!"

"You're in love with me?" you heard him say.

You looked over at him, almost choking on a sob.

He immediately pulled you back to him, smashing his lips onto yours; he tasted of alcohol and mint. You kissed him back, your hands finding themselves tangled in his hair. You pulled away after a moment.

He smiled down at you, cupping your cheeks with his hands.

"What was that for?"

"I love you too."

He pulled you into a hug, his chin resting on your forehead. Maybe it was the cheesy love song coming from the house, or hormones, or the fact that it was raining, but at that moment, everything seemed perfect.
