STACY

I woke up the next morning with a text from my mystery boy. He said goodnight. Never before had a boy said goodnight to me. I couldn't help but silently squeal in my bed and text him back good morning.

He didn't respond and I thought about how early morning seminary wasn't a luxury for other kids. During seminary, I got a text back. I ignored it because I tried to stay off of my phone during class. Once I was in my car, waiting for my brother Jared, I unlocked my phone and smiled at the text ready for me to read.

"Why are you awake so early!"

"Seminary."

"God shouldn't have you get up so early for some bible class."

"Actually, we're learning about the Book of Mormon this semester."

"You get crazier and crazier by the minute." 🤪

I giggled and my brother asked me what I was giggling at as he entered the car.

"Oh," I responded, "I'm just texting some boy."

"You? Boys?" He teased. I pushed at his shoulder and he chuckled. He held his hands up in surrender because he knew that I could beat him in a wrestling match. "What's his name?"

I hesitated to answer. "I don't know."

"You're texting some random guy? Isn't that dangerous or something?" I shrugged.

"He doesn't know mine and we haven't exchanged where we live. Which I won't. It's just nice to have a friend for a change."

My brother sadly smiled. We drove to school and after going to my locker I slipped into my first period classroom and squeezed into my desk.

"How did your dinner go with your mom's boyfriend?"

"Terrible. He wouldn't stop talking about taking my mom and I out on his new boat."

"I'm jealous, I've never been on a boat!"

"You wouldn't want to go on one that is offered by James."

"Is James your mom's boyfriend?"

"Can't believe you learned that putts' name before mine."

"Your fault for spilling the beans."

"Is there anytime soon that you'll slip yours?"

"Nope."

"I still don't even know your age. I gave you mine. 18."

"Maybe if we're still texting in a week's time."

"Sure, whatever."

NICK

"Dude," I looked up from my phone and right as I did, I watched as a familiar girl walked by smiling down at her phone. I turned my attention over to Kyle and he chuckled.

"What man?" I asked.

"I asked if you were coming tomorrow. You know ... Dan's party?"

"Oh, right. Yeah, I'll be there." I turned my attention back to my phone.

"Dude, who are you texting that's so important?"

"My mystery girl."

"The one who randomly texted you?"

"Yeah," I went back to my phone waiting for something to say to come to mind or for her to carry the conversation on. I wasn't ready to stop talking.

"Lame." Kyle turned his attention to a pair of girls. My girl wasn't responding and I was getting frustrated.

"Hey Nick." Sarah came up and I smiled.

"What's up Sarah?" I slithered my hand around her waist as she swung her arm around my neck.

"Are you going to the party Wednesday?"

"Of course." Sarah was hot. Like, really hot. She didn't even look like she was in high school. I guessed that maybe she got plastic surgery or something. She was blond and had a different color of eyes each day. Today they were a striking purple, and they totally went with her outfit, which her breasts hung out of.

"Eyes up here, horny bastard." I chuckled after she grabbed my chin.

"Maybe you shouldn't wear such revealing clothing around me." I squeezed her butt.

"I'll make no promises." She patted my chest and I kissed her cheek.

"Maybe you can come over later today?" I said flirtatiously. She nodded right as the bell rang for first period.

I set my phone on silent and slipped it into my back pocket.

STACY

School was incredibly boring as most of my classes were full of subs. Flu, basketball, and wrestling season always caused teachers to be gone.

I waited in my car after school with Jared for the twins once again on their wrestling practice. I read a book as I got a text. I smiled and put the book down.

"Okay, question, what color is your hair?"

"Brown."

"Like, light brown or dark brown?"

"I'd have to say dark brown. You?"

"I have light brown hair."👨🏽

"Too bad, I like blondies."

"Too bad yourself, I like blonds too."👩🏼

"Well good thing you're not trying to learn of me and make me fall in love with you so that you can kill me."

"I guess. I don't think hair though would change a psycho's mind on a victim. "🧐

"Is that mustache included on the emoji you sent?"

"You into guys with mustaches?"

"Not in the least."

"Well then good thing I don't have one."

"Lol."

NICK

"What are you doing on your phone?" Sarah asked. I was leaning over my bed chuckling to myself at my mystery girl's texts. My phone was on the charger and my cord didn't stretch very far. The lights were out in my room and the blinds were drawn.

"Just a friend." I simply answered.

"Well, tell your friend you're busy." Sarah began kissing my neck. After doing it with her I was bored and didn't feel like cuddling. So I texted my girl. But I didn't want to have sex again with Sarah, I wanted to keep texting the girl I still didn't even know the name of.

"Look, Sarah, I have a lot of homework. How about I text you later?" The hot blond stopped kissing my shoulder and bicep. She gave me a frown that was barely readable in the dark room then forced her way off the bed.

"You know what Nick, you're a lousy sex go to-er."

"It's not like I like you or anything." I bluntly said to her as she pulled her panties back up her legs. She scoffed at my words and grabbed her bra. She clipped it on and I turned away from her. I climbed out of my messy bed and grabbed my boxers and a pair of sweats. Sarah was dressed and told me not to call her. I didn't tell her that I wasn't even planning on it. She left and I grabbed my phone. I stared at it for a minute wondering what to ask my mystery girl. So far she wasn't even my type. She was way too religious for my liking and she seemed smart. I mean, what person in their right mind likes school? But I was strangely attracted to her. I sent a text and a few minutes later she responded.

"Have you ever had sex? I know you haven't kissed a guy but that's different."

"Um, no, I haven't."
"You?"

"Would you chastise me if I said yes?"

"Yes."

"Then no."

"Liar."

"Can't believe you're 16-18 years old and you've never kissed a guy."

"I want it to be special. You know?"
"To be able to have that kiss that tells you this is real. This is it. He's the one. He'll love you no matter what and the only thing on his mind are your lips and no one else's."

"Wow, never thought of it that way."

"Of course not, you're a guy. You kiss who you want when you want how you want."

"Wow, that's sadly insulting and true."

"Yeah, gotta love the men God created for us women."

"Hah, that's actually kind of funny."

She didn't respond after that and I wished she hadn't gone away. Was she busy? Did her mom want her for something? Did she have a younger sibling that she had to entertain? All these questions about what could possibly be going on in her life ran around in my head. I was tempted to text her back but decided to not look desperate or pushy. I eventually ended up doing homework and man was it boring and time consuming.

The next day my girl texted me good morning. I couldn't keep the heart in my chest from leaping at her text. She texted me so early and I couldn't help but smile at the time she had to get up for that seminary class of hers.

Of course I texted back.

"Good morning!🌞 you sleep good?"

She didn't text back and I assumed she was in her church class. I kept glancing at my phone to see if she texted back throughout the rest of the morning. She did once I got to school.

"Fantastic!"

"Left me on read last night."

"Oops, sorry, my mom took my phone away."

"Why?"

"Because she saw me on it and said that homework was more important. Once I was done with hw I had scripture study. After that was dinner then family scripture study and prayer and then bedtime."

"Man, what kind of family are you living in?"

"A gospel centered one."

"Ouch. Sorry we all can't have moms and dads who raise us up in a church."

"I'm sorry if I offended you in any way."

"You didn't offend me at all. I'm just teasing you."

"Oh, okay."

"Are you at school right now?"

"Yeah, you?"

"Yep. And I can't wait for last block."

She didn't respond. I wondered if I had just killed the conversation or not. I slipped my phone into my back pocket and climbed out of my car. I walked in and walked to the spot where I usually met up with Kyle. My phone chimed and my chest gained that same leaping sensation from earlier. I pulled my phone out and smiled at her text.

"What's your favorite class?"

This girl was trying to get to know me like I've been trying to get to know her. I was glad that I wasn't the one asking all the questions.

Right as I was about to respond, however, I ran into a similar face. Not only did I see this girl at the park, feeding homeless people, but I had also ran into her at lunch on Monday, literally, like, I totally toppled over her big body. I fell onto her squishy self and was glad she saved my fall with her extra weight. I also felt bad for running into her but she was a total weirdo.

Now, I ran into her again, I realized she was also on her phone.

"Sorry," she said, she was short, and had run into my chest. I chuckled and laughed at her rubbing her acne covered forehead. She had big, thick, black glasses and her dark brown hair was once again in a bun like it was on Saturday.

"Sorry," I mumbled. I stepped past her wondering what it was like to be like her. Fat, ugly, but a serviceable heart. I smiled at Kyle who was surrounded by the hot girls of the drill team.
