Dave's POV
Ayo drove us to the beach in his car and you should have seen Katherine's reaction when we arrived. She was ecstatic. She was giving off so many happy vibes that I was worried she would explode out of sheer happiness.
We went to an area to change and Ayo and I talked. "Where did you get Kath from?" Ayo asked,voicing out his first thoughts, "She is like a bundle of energy. It's hard to keep up with her enthusiasm".
"I know" I sighed,feeling relieved that someone understood me. "And trust me,if I told you how I met her,you would think I'm dumb".
Ayo looked bewildered but didn't attempt to pursue it. He turned back to me after a minute asking, "is she your girlfriend?".
"What?!" I exclaimed incredulously. I backed away,giving him a disbelieving look. My mouth was so wide open I was sure two eggs could be stuffed inside.
"I'm guessing not" Ayo concluded,seemingly understanding my shock. He nodded and turned back to his clothes.
"Why would you say that?!" I exclaimed a bit upset,recovering from my initial shock. "You know I just broke up with Miriam and you expected me to go off and come back with a girlfriend after my heart was broken?!".
"Chill dude,I didn't mean it like that" Ayo said. "It's just,you don't have a lot of friends so, you bringing a girl we have no idea of is...sort of strange".
I pursed my lips "I have friends that you don't know".
"Who? Efe? Gladys? Anthony?" Ayo called,his mocking grin getting wider.
I frowned,turning away from him, "idiot".
Ayo just chuckled and followed me. We dropped a few of our things in his car and met Kath standing by the entrance of the beach. She looked good in her beach wear and she was shaking in excitement.
"I think she might combust" Ayo commented from behind me.
"True friends think alike" I said, nodding in agreement. Kath caught sight of us and waved excitedly. We got to where she was standing.
"Hi guys,you looked good in beach wear" Kath said,running her eyes through our form appreciatively. She nodded impressed. I raised an eyebrow at her attitude,I never knew she was one to check out guys. At that moment,I couldn't help but run my eyes over Kath properly and notice so many pretty things about her.
The smile on her face-,it looked beautiful. I could feel everything she was feeling through her smile. It captivated me.
"...Dave?" Someone called,jolting me out of my thoughts. It was Ayo. He gestured for me to go in "Let's go in".
I nodded and followed,trying not to lose sight of Kath. Knowing her,I hope she avoids trouble. I found her just staring at the sea with a admired look in her eyes. She spread her arms out and closed her eyes,tilting her head back. The wind blew softly,tossing the salty sea water in our faces.
"It's so beautiful" Kath muttered,staring at the waves with a sense of fulfillment.
"It's more beautiful at sunset" I said,glancing at her. She smiled and I couldn't help but think:

I snapped out of my thoughts when Ayo joined us,just as Kath said "I have been waiting all my life to wear this beach cloth,to be here,and now it's finally happened".
Ayo looked confused, "what? What did you mean by that?".
"Shh" I said,shushing him with a mocking smirk. "You are ruining the moment". Ayo shot me a puzzled look and Kath suddenly put her arms around our shoulders,squeezing us together.
"Come on! My moment is over" Kath beamed. "Now let's have some fun," she raised her hand suddenly "I call on water!".
"I second that".
"No!" I objected but they ignored me,too deep in their thoughts. She and Ayo went to the shallow side of the water and played. I just watched them bored.
Maybe it was a bad idea to come here. I have nothing to do,I am not like Ayo that I can easily have fun that way,it's weird and childish. With a sigh,I went over to a shed and sat down,scrolling through my phone. Only a few seconds passed when I felt a shadow fall on me. I looked up to see Kath.
"Hey Dave! You have to teach me how to swim" Kath smiled. Ayo jogged to her,stopping in front of me.
He scoffed "he can swim but he is scared of swimming in the ocean. He is scared of sharks".
"Shut up Ayo" I grumbled.
"I don't think there are sharks in this beach,right?" Kath asked,looking between us unsure. I turned to Ayo and he just shrugged.
"Whatever" Kath brushed it off. She turned to me pulling my hand, "stop being such a big boy and join us. You need to loosen up. We can play ball or ride horses-". Kath suddenly froze then squealed excitedly in my ear.
"Ah!" I backed up,covering my ears almost immediately. I glared at her but she ignored it.
"Horses! I forgot about horses" she squealed,clapping her hands. "I want to ride a horse Dave,I want to ride a horse. Get one for me".
"Do I have to?".
"It's not like you are doing anything important so come here" Kath said,pulling me off the seat successfully. I grumbled,following her while Ayo watched me,holding in his laughter.
We found a horse and paid for a ride. I helped Kath get on the horse and her smile widened.
"This is so cool" she said in a high pitched voice. I rolled my eyes, "stop smiling Kath. If you keep on smiling like that,your jaw will hurt".
"Whatever" Kath brushed off with a smile. She waved at Ayo who came over to join us, "Look Ayo! I'm riding".
"Yes you are" Ayo said amused. Kath rode on the horse for a while Ayo and I talked. I looked up for a moment and saw Kath was no longer on the horse. My heart skipped a beat in fear.
"Where is Katherine?".
Ayo looked up and around. "She isn't here. Let's ask the horse guy".
We walked to the man renting the horse. "Where did the girl that was riding the horse go?" I asked,trying to mask my worry.
"She went to the water" the man simply answered and went back to brushing the horse's mane. We turned around.
"Couldn't Kath have let us know where she was going? How are we going to find which part of the water she is in?" I said irritated.
"Calm down,I'm sure she didn't go far" Ayo said.
"Maybe but Kath gets into a lot of trouble when she is alone. Plus,she doesn't know anywhere around here. If she gets lost,i'm done for" I said wide eyed,realising if Kath disappeared,her family who I didn't know would end me. They already sent bodyguards for her,who knows they wouldn't send assassins for me. I gulped.
My thoughts were cut short by the icy feeling of water on my skin. The wind hit me and i shivered. Turning around,i glared at the culprit,a laughing Katherine who was holding a small sand bucket. "What the-,Katherine!".
Kath and Ayo paid no attention to me,instead they were laughing their heads off. I scowled at them,wrapping my arms around my body.
Kath was practically convulsing with laughter now, "y-you know...since you are too sc-scared to swim,I-i thought you could ha-have water dumped on you instead...".
I scowled deeply and raised her by the waist. She shrieked and I smirked as I carried her,bridal style to the water.
"Dave! Stop!" Kath screamed. She flailed her arms. "I'm sorry,I can't swim! I will drown!".
"You won't,but you will get wet!" I yelled in satisfaction,dropping Kath into the water bank. Kath screamed,which turned into laughter and dragged me with her. I couldn't help but laugh. I stared at her her twinkling eyes "brat".
"Bore".
"Hey,I am not a bore" I said offended. I stood up,the water leveled below my knee
"Then i am not a brat".
"That's debatable". We exchanged a glance and ended up laughing. We saw Ayo flirting with some girl and i pinched my forehead,shaking it disappointedly. I tsked in his direction.
"Hey,we are going to change" i told Ayo. He nodded mindlessly,his attention on the girl before him. I shook my hair and walked away with Kath.
We dried ourselves and changed separately. As a result,we returned at different times. He and Kath were seated in a bar laughing. I joined them.
"We must surely be lucky for you to still be in our presence after the flirting you've done all day" I said monotonously.
"How could i leave my friends alone on this wonderful day" Ayo said grinning. I narrowed my eyes at him.
"Yeah right" i scoffed. Kath took pictures of us together. She looked so happy and i felt this deep sense of satisfaction. The bar slowly became lively and loud music echoed. Kath was already swaying to the music.
"Let's dance" Ayo asked.
Kath nodded happily "okay". She took Ayo's hand getting up. She turned to me "do you want to join us?".
I shook my head. Kath shrugged then joined Ayo on the dance floor. I watched them dance,the fun didn't seem to be ending for Kath and i got increasingly surprised watching her.
Kath was dancing really good,like a pro. People were starting to give her room to dance. Whenever the song changed,she quickly switched her moves and she was flawless. From pop to hip pop to Afro-pop,she was dominating everything.
I could only stare in shock. Ayo came back to his seat,chuckling "she is phenomenal".
He looked at me,registering the shock on my face. "You didn't know she could dance?".
"Nope" I managed to say.
"Well,she looks sexy" Ayo commented,turning back to Katherine. Katherine stopped dancing and everyone applauded.
"Thank you,thank you" she said with a smile and walked back to us. I just stared at her in shock.
"Why didn't you tell me?" I gulped.
"What?" Katherine asked,her face falling.
"Why didn't you tell me you could dance?!" I exclaimed wide eyed. "You looked great out there. How did you learn?! Where?!".
Kath looked taken aback by my abrupt yelling then laughed. She held her stomach,laughing "Dave,me dancing isn't a big deal".
"It is" I said indignantly,crossing my arms. "Your dance was competition material. You should be in dancing competitions".
"Yet i'm not and i don't want to" Kath said,sitting down. She turned to Ayo, "now,do you think we can get a decent meal around here? I am hungry after dancing so much".
"Sure"Ayo smiled politely. He ordered rice for us. The amount of rice was kind of little but we ate it anyways. I watched the ocean for a while before the sun began to set and that,was when the beer party started.
"That was fun!" Kath exclaimed drunk. I nodded in agreement,trying to peel the beer bottle from her grasp. She is a lightweight,figures,I guess.
Ayo already had a bottle and was getting drunk. There is no way i am going to drive two drunk people home. I knew i should have stopped them when they started. I pulled Katherine up first,she was obviously lighter than Ayo so she would be easier to carry.
"Stop drinking Kath,come on. let's go to the car" I said,pulling her arm.
"No!" Kath pouted stubbornly. "I don't want to go,I want to stay here. I don't want thus day to end". Kath wailed dramatically then stopped abruptly,wrapping her arms round her neck. My hands found her waist and rested there on their own accord. The proximity between Kath and I was nerve wrecking.
She giggled at me "let's dance. You didn't have as much fun as I did and I don't want that so,you are going to dance with me". She stared at me with a determined gaze.
"No Katherine,I can't dance" I said,shaking my head.
"Loosen up and try to have fun Dave" Ayo yelled in an amused tone,encouraging Kath. I gritted my teeth at him-the barely drunk Ayo-who grinned in response.
Kath pulled me to the dance floor and placed my hands on her waist. She wrapped her arms around my neck and looked up at me. "Are you having fun?" She asked with drowsy smile.
"Eh...Katherine" I said rather uncomfortably. "The music is fast paced and we are dancing slowly,it's strange. People are staring".
Kath rested her head on the crook of my neck,snuggling it. "It doesn't matter" she said softly,her breath tickling the airs on my skin. "You are being paranoid. We are in this moment,just you and I. Don't ruin it".
Those words,the way she said it,it messed with my head. My heart beat in a odd yet familiar rhythm. All my words stuck in my throat.
I looked at her and noticed she was snoring. She had fallen asleep. I guided her sleeping figure back to our table. "Let's go" I told Ayo.
Ayo nodded "why don't you stay with me tonight?". I shook my head refusing but Kath woke up that moment.
"Yes" she said. She turned to me, "But let's wait for a while and continue having fun. We haven't finished our dance Dave".
"No Kath. Don't be difficult,let's go" I said with a frown.
Kath stared at me pouting then giggled again. She kissed my cheek,surprising me. I stiffened in surprise and looked at her with a questioning gaze.
She just chuckled,shutting her eyes. "You are so cute" she muttered and snored,asleep again. I turned to Ayo and saw him staring at me questioningly. He suddenly smirked. I looked away,feeling my face heat up.
"Let's go now" I muttered,covering my mouth with my hand as if coughing. Ayo said nothing and we left.
