Pie POV

The sound of my phone ringing woke me up. Normally I wouldn't have answered it but today I had an overwhelming feeling that I had to get it. As I picked up the phone, the sound of my best friend, Fern from the other end rang in my ears. She informed me something but I couldn't pay much attention to it. All I knew, I was dumbfounded when I heard the last few words that came out from Fern's mouth.

            "Pie, Yam has passed away."

We gathered on the cold, dark, rainy afternoon.  The rain had turned into a light drizzle not like on its morning where the downpour was enough to let Naoh's Ark set sail again.  The situation was so gloomy. At some moment, I manage to peek up to Kluidom's family. They were consumed by the bitterness and anguish at the loss of their daughter.  I went through the burial and funeral service with withdrawn solitude. I can't associate what was going on. I felt like an audience. Yet at the back of my mind, I was aware that only me, Fern, Kluidom's family and  Kim left at the meticulously arranged cemetery. I stood far from Kim with Fern beside me. Last night's dream rushed down through my mind.

"Pie, I'm sorry." Yam utters her apologize to me.

"No Pie. Kim is yours." I don't understand why she speak like that.

"Promise me that you'll come tomorrow?" She doesn't bother to answer me.

"Please Pie?" She pleads to me when I was still in hesitation.

"Okay." I assured that to her.

            "Promise?" She asks me again.

"Promise." I nodded and gave a faint smile to her.

"Thank you Pie." She hugged me again and I hugged her back.

"Pie, I need to go now." She suddenly stands up from her seat. Seemed like she rushed to catch something.

"Why so sudden?" I was startled to see her action.

"It's time for me to go." She caressed my cheeks and walked away.

"Yam, I come here as I promised to you." I hope she will hear me. Not even once I will think this way but now I realized, I dreamt about Yam last night and she was actually telling me she will never come back after she said to me it's time for her  to go. Some of you might say I should feel happy right? Because there will be no rival for me anymore? You are wrong. I am sad. I never felt this terrible sad in me. I don't know why but it's really heartbreaking with the lost of Yam.

I divert my gaze to Kim. There is a man beside him. Holding an umbrella for them and at the same time he looks like he is trying to comfort Kim. I can't figure out how is her condition as she is back facing me, staring down at the headstone that stood before her eyes. She covered her eyes with a dark shades and I bet, she used it to hide her eyes. Eyes that had cried too much. I can feel her pain. How does it feel when today she supposed to hear the ring of wedding bells but it turned to be a mourn of grief? When today they were supposedly walk down the aisle, arm in arm but now stuck in a silence, gloomy graveyard? I know, she mourns for  the lost of her bride-to-be.

"Pie, are you okay?" Fern touches my arm and brakes my reverie. She might notice that my eyes are all on Kim since the beginning.

"Yes. I'm alright." I nod without looking to her. I know, she is so sad with the lost of her best friend too. Well, I am Fern's best friend and Yam was her best friend too.

"Let's go home." She says to me and starts to drag me along with her. We are sharing an umbrella and she is the one who holding it instead of me. The light drizzle still can make we drench to our skin.

"Okay." I just follow her and we make our way through the quagmire.

"Ms.Pie?" I heard someone calling my name. Fern and I stop our movement immediately. We turned around to look to the voice owner.

"Yes?" I try to recognise the person as she walks to our direction.

"Ms.Pie, I found this under Ms.Yam's pillow." She shows me a piece of folded paper. Now I remember this lady. She is Aunty Sue, Yam's trusted nanny and maid.

"I think it is for you." She hands the paper to me and I take it.

"To : PIE." My name was written on it and I think it was addressed to me too.

"Thank you Aunty Sue." I thank her and we walk away, taking our own direction.

Kim POV

I went through the burial and funeral service with withdrawn solitude. I  can't associate what was going on. I can't believe this. Tell me this is not true. Yam left me too. She left me just like Pie did. No! Yam doesn't leave me. She won't do that. She promised to stay by my side and I know, she won't betray me. Yam is sleeping. Yes, she is sleeping. She slept after I asked her to sleep last night.

#Flashback

"Yam, why don't you sleep yet?" I walk to her bedside and sit on the edge of the bed. Her eyes were still wide open and she was staring to the ceiling as if she was thinking something.

"Kim.." She looked to me and flashed her fainted smile.

"Hey, you have to sleep or else, you will look like a panda tomorrow morning." I joked to her.

"Why are you still here? Don't you have to sleep too?" She chuckled and reached out her hands to touch my face.

"I were about to sleep when I was thinking of checking you." I said to her as I hold her hands and kissed them.

"Kim, are you all right? You seem tired and lack of sleep." She brought her thumbs  to my eyes and made circles around them.

"I'm fine. I just so busy of preparing stuffs for our wedding." I closed my eyes as she proceeded to give a massage on my temple.

"You should take care of yourself and your health. What if I am not around? Who will take care of you?" She sounded worry.

"Nah, you'll take care of me. Who else would do that?" I pouted my lips to her as if I'm sulky.

"Kim, aren't you not regretting what you do right now?" She questioned me. I frown.

"As long as you are willing to stay by my side and never left, I won't regret my decision." I assured it to her and cupped her face with my hands. I wanted her to know that I am serious.

"Kim, no one can stay forever with us. When death come, we will fall apart." She smiled on saying that to me.

"Then, only death can separate us. Now, stop talking and let's sleep." I clipped her mouth with my hands to avoid her from talking nonsense things.

"Sleep with me?" She asked to me when I tucked her into bed.

"Okay." I laid beside her.

"Kim, I'll stay by your side until death fall us apart." She turned her body and faced me.

"Hmm.. Now, close your eyes and sleep." I caressed her cheeks and she closed her eyes. We sleep together as she snuggled close to me.

#End of Flashback

"I'll stay by your side until death fall us apart." That's what Yam told to me.

"Kim, let's go home now." Zee pats my shoulder and brakes my reverie.

"No! I want to wait until Yam wake up." I don't want to go anywhere. Yam must be afraid if I left her alone here.

"Kim, don't talk like this. She has passed away..." Zee holds my arms.

"No! She is not dead yet! She is sleeping!" I recoil and push away her hands before she could finish her words.

"Kim, Yam must be sad if she knew you like this." Zee persuades me to follow her again.

"Do you think I will leave her alone at this creepy cemetery?" I hiss.

"No! I won't go anywhere until she wakes up." I sit on the muddy ground.

"Yes Kim, Yam is sleeping but NO! She won't wake up anymore because she is in her UNDISTURBED SLEEP. No one can awake her."  Zee sighs on saying that to me.

"Undisturbed sleep?" My mind repeats the phrase. The fact that I can't accept, Yam was died in her sleep.
