The hot and humid air hit my face and the disturbing smell of sweat and alcohol stung in my nose. Everywhere were moving bodies, I was not able to see which body parts matched to which bodies, everything was just a mass of movement. The flickering lights hindered my eyes from focusing and the voices of dozens of people mixed with the noise of dance music.
Ashley dragged me to the bar, where a man handed her a red plastic cup with a yellowish liquid in it.
She apparently enjoyed the party, a big smile was evident on her facial features, but for me my senses were too stressed to enjoy it.
She screamed something too me, but her words were swallowed by the loud music and I only understood a few words.
"...you...drink something?"
I shook my head, I never drank alcohol before and wanted to stay fully conscious.
My eyes were wide opened like the eyes of a deer that was caught in the headlight of a car and was going to be run over. The noise and the unbelievable mass of people triggered me. I was still very introverted, even with Ashley and John as new friends, and the crowd made me feel very uncomfortable and intimidated.
Ashley shrugged and took a nip of her drink, her red lipstick leaving a lipstick stain on the cup. Then she seemed to notice someone in the room and her eyes lit up.
"... Samantha! Come,...go... her!", she screamed.
I stood on my tiptoes to make out the girl in the mainly red lighted room, but I was too small and almost got hit by an elbow in my eye.
Ashley pulled my arm and we both fought our way to the blond haired girl that was standing on the other side of the room. I got hit a few times, mainly on the head and I could not help but question the sense of going to parties. Why was everyone so excited to go to parties? It was just full of people who stank and hurt you.
We finally arrived to where Samantha stood, who observed our arrival with a bored expression. Her eyes glided over our bodies to check out our outfits. When she saw mine, she sneered. She herself was wearing high heels and a minidress with a neckline that almost revealed her bellybutton.
Ashley began to shout excitedly something to Samantha, who pretended to listen, because it wasn't possible to understand.
Suddenly I got a message from my bladder. During the hectic departure of Ashley and me there hadn't been time for me to go to the toilet. I turned to Ashley.
"I have to go to the toilet!", I screamed as loud as possible.
She apparently understood, because she nodded, grabbed my hand and lead me through the crowd to a staircase. We both climbed the stairs up. When we were at the top, it was less noisy than before and also less people crowded the hallway. We passed a few doors.
"Why do you know where the toilet is?", I asked Ashley, finally not needing to scream.
"I often go to parties here. The house belongs to another student of Harvard.", she told me. "Ah, here we are."
A few girls stood before the bathroom, but after a few minutes it finally was my turn.
"I wait outside for you.", Ashley told me, before I closed the door.
Inside it smelled of vomit and I tried to hold my breath. After I finished my business, I looked at my reflection in the huge mirror on the wall.
This wasn't me.
This girl in the mirror wasn't me.
This heavy make-up, these clothes, especially the leather pants wasn't me.
I opened the door. A girl with smudgy make-up ran past me and vomited noisily in the toilet bowl. I quickly got out, closed the door behind me and looked out for Ashley, to tell her that I wanted to leave this hell of a party. But I didn't saw her face among the girls in the hallway.
She had left me.
I had to fight the tears that were stinging in my eyes. Maybe she was near and I just had to walk a few meters or look into the rooms. After all, she had promised to protect me.
I opened the door to my right side. It just seemed to be a walk-in-closet. I closed the door and opened the door to my left side... and closed it as fast as possible after I saw a couple making out in a very sensual way.
Maybe it wasn't a good idea to open every door. I thought that I should try my luck with looking for Ashley downstairs, where the most people were, she seemed to like it there.
I made my way downstairs, passing a few strange people. I didn't want to catch their attention, therefore I focused my eyes on my shoes stepping down the stairs.
Suddenly my wrist was grabbed rudely with a strong grip and someone pulled me, causing my head to collide with the chest of a man. He emitted a strong smell of alcohol and I tried not to vomit.
"What is a beautiful girl like you doing here all alone?", he asked, his disgusting hot breath in my neck. He slurred the words and laughed at my try to free myself. I also heard other men laugh and saw more, when the man who was holding me turned me around.
"Hey, Henry! That's a small fish you caught!", one of them bawled.
"But I still don't know the value of this one, right?", Henry said.
"Please let me go!", I whimpered, not being able to free myself.
"Oh come on, kitty! We still want to have fun with each other before I let you go."
Suddenly I felt someone touching my butt. I froze.
"Whoa, Henry, she's no fun! She doesn't even scream!"
I felt the hands wandering up to my breasts and tried not to cry. His hot breath entered my ear, when he whispered: "We both will have so much fun with each other, right kitty?"
Adrenaline flowed through my body. I would not let myself being raped! My leg shot up and my foot hit the part of Henry where the sun doesn't shine.
Henry crouched down and covered with his hands the part where my foot hit him.
I didn't waste time and ran downstairs. Luckily the other men didn't follow me, instead they mocked Henry loudly.
I let the tears streaming out of my eyes and fought my way to the front door. I didn't care for Ashley anymore, I just wanted to go home.
When I left the house, the cold winter air felt like a wall that I collided with. Trembling, I wanted to start my walk to the subway, when I heard voices. Familiar voices.
"Why did you want to talk to me? I promised Victoria to wait for her!"
"Oh, come on! As if you really would want to wait for her!"
Samantha's derogatory voice made me trying to listen to the conversation. They talked about me, right? But what did Samantha want to say with this statement?
"What do you mean?", Ashley asked, apparently as confused as I was.
"I know your intentions! You pretend to like Victoria to benefit of her knowledge in class and her wealth! It's not a secret that she is very successful and rich! As if someone would really want to be friends with her!"
Every word Samantha said cut through my body. Was Ashley really like this? Was this her only intention? To use me like my mother did?
I didn't wait to hear Ashley's answer. With tears streaming down my cheeks like waterfalls I ran away.
