Whereas sentence structures focus on the individual clause/s in a sentence, sentence types look at the function of the sentence as a whole.

There are 4 main sentence types:

1. Declarative/Simple sentences- statements

2. Imperative/Command sentences- commands/orders/requests

3. Exclamatory Sentence- express/exclaim an emotion, that can be followed by an exclamation mark (!).

4. Interrogative/Question Sentence- questions, followed by a question mark (?)

Using a variety of sentence types creates a more interesting dialogue to read.
