Singing and Dancing

For the songs, all rights go to Christina Perri and Hannah Montana. Haha.

November 15, 1986

The Party was heading over to the Byer's and Hopper's house, since Joyce and Hopper had gotten married about a week ago.

Mike, Lucas, Dustin, and Max hadn't seen Will or El since the wedding and they were all very excited to see them today.

As of right now, they were telling each other what they thought Will and El would be doing when they get there, because the new siblings didn't know The Party was coming over.

"I think El will be day dreaming about Mike." Lucas teased, making kissing noises and faces at Mike.

Mike rolled his eyes. "Shut up, Lucas." He biked farther away from his friend.

"And I think Will will be drawing or something artistic." Dustin said then laughed. "Haha. I said Will will be- you know?"

"Yes, Dustin." Max rolled her eyes. "Very funny. Haha."

"I don't appreciate the sarcasm, Max." Dustin argued. "It was funny!"

"Uh-huh." Max said, not really paying attention to her curly haired friend. "Anyway, I think El might be looking through a magazine and checking out the pictures of boys." She smirked at Mike.

Mike inhaled. "Hopefully not."

They pulled up to the house and dropped their bikes in the front yard and quickly made their way to the door. Dustin knocked.

Joyce opened the door with a smile. "Hey, guys!" She opened the door wider, allowing the group of teenagers inside. "They're in their room."

Will and El did share a room because Jonathan still lived there. They had replaced Will's bed with a bunk bed, Will on the bottom bunk and El on the top bunk.

"Oh, kids?" They turned to Joyce. "They're working on something that they've been working on for most the school year so be quiet, okay?"

The group nodded. "Yes, Mrs. Byers." They all said.

They got to Will and El's bedroom door and Dustin was about to knock when Lucas stopped him. "Wait, let's listen in and hear what they're working on."

"Oh, good idea." Dustin said.

"Guys, this is kind of invading on their-" Max interrupted Mike.

"Shut up, Mike." She said. "We're trying to listen."

Mike rolled his eyes but relented and started to listen in on his girlfriend and best friend like everyone else.

"And..." El's voice was hear, making Mike's heart flutter. "Done!"

"You finished it!?" Will's excited voice could be heard.

"Yup." El proudly said. "The notes and everything."

"Oh! Let me see!" There was a sound of paper being passed over. A few minutes had passed before Will spoke up again. "Wow, El! That's amazing!"

"Thanks." El said quietly, most likely blushing.

"We should do it." Will quickly said. "Like right now."

"Okay, calm down, Will." El laughed "Do you want to play the piano?"

"Well, I'm certainly not singing." Will scoffed.

Lucas looked at Dustin and Mike and whispered, "They play the piano?"

Mike nodded. "I've heard El play before and I knew El played too but I've never heard any of them sing." He whispered.

"Oh." Mike said and they continued to listen.

"Okay, ready?" El asked.

"Yeah." Will said. "This is so exciting."

"It's not like we're performing my song to the world. We're just singing it for the fun." El told him and Max gasped.

"She wrote a song?!" She whisper-shouted.

"I guess." Dustin shrugged.

"Okay." El said. "Start playing."

Will started playing the piano and The Party's jaw dropped.

Then El began to sing and The Party was awestruck.

"I can hold my breath,

  I can bite my tongue,

I can stay away for days if that's what you want."

Max gasped quietly. "She's so good!"

"And the song is already amazing!" Dustin whispered.

El continued singing.

"Be you number one,

  I can fake a smile,

  I can force a laugh,

I can dance and play the part if that's what you ask,

  give you all I am."

"I-I think this is about her." Mike said and his friends agreed.

"I can do it,

  I can do it,

  I can do it..."

Lucas nodded. "I think so too."

El took a deep breath.

"But I'm only human...

and I bleed when I fall down,

  I'm only human,

and I crash and I break down."

Dustin nodded. "It definitely is."

"Your words in my head,

  knives in my heart,

you build me up and then I fall apart

'cause I'm only human..."  El sang.

"Wow." Max said with wide eyes. "This is hitting me hard."

Mike agreed. "It's beautiful."

Lucas pushed Mike teasingly. "Shut up, Lover Boy."

"I can turn it on,

  be a good machine,

I can hold the weight of the world if that's what you need,

  be your everything."

"I can't believe she wrote this!" Dustin said with a huge smile. "It's amazing!"

El took a deep breath and sang stronger and louder.

"I can do it,

  I can do it,

I'll get through it..."

"Wow. She's really really good." Max looked at the boys who were nodding in agreement.

"So are you, though!" Lucas exclaimed quickly.

"Shut up." Max rolled her eyes and put her ear back against the door.

El took another deep breath.

"But I'm only human...

and I bleed when I fall down,

  I'm only human,

and I crash and I break down,

your words in my head, knives in my heart,

you build me up then I fall apart,

  'cause I'm only human..."

Will played the piano until El started singing again.

"And Will's pretty good at the piano, too." Mike pointed out.

"Do they take music and piano lessons?" Lucas asked.

"Yes." Max answered. "El talks about it all the time."

"I'm only human

  I'm only human,

  Just a little human..."

Just piano.

"I can take so much,

 till I've had enough."

"Is it over?" Dustin asked, a little disappointed.

"Cause I'm only human

and I bleed when I fall down."

 "Nope." Lucas answered.

"I'm only human,

and I crash and I break down,

  your words in my head,

  knives in my heart,

you build me up then I fall apart,

  'cause I'm only human."

Then the piano stopped and you could hear palms slapping together, a high five.

"Wow!" Will exclaimed. "Mrs. Kaminski is going to love it!"

Mike looked at his friends. "Should we go in, now?" Max shook her head.

"Thanks." El said.

"Oh!" Will said. "We should do the other one!"

El gasped. "Yes! That one is so much fun!"

Lucas turned to Dustin, who was next to him. "Another one?!" He rubbed his hands together.

"Piano or guitar?" El asked.

"Guitar sounds better with the song." Will answered.

"Alright." El clapped her hands. "Are you going to sing with me?"

Will sighed. "Fine. I'll sing my parts. You sing yours."

"Yes!" El cheered.

The guitar started playing then El started to sing,

"You wake up, it's raining and it's Monday.

Looks like one of those rough days.

Time's up, you're late again so get out the door."

Max nodded. "This one is a lot more positive"

Lucas agreed. "Yeah, it is. I like it."

"Me too." Dustin and Mike both said.

"Sometimes you feel like running.

Find a whole new world and jump in.

Let go, get up and hit the dance floor."

El giggled as Will sang.

"Will can sing?!" Dustin said, eyes wide.

Mike nodded. "I guess so. He's not bad either."

El sang next,

"But when the lights go down it's ending of the show,

and you're feeling like you got nowhere to go.

  Don't you know?"

Then Will and El sang at the same time, leaving The Party with wide eyes and dropped jaws.

"You can change your hair and you can change your clothes.

   You can change your mind.

That's just the way it goes.

You can say goodbye and you can say hello.

But you'll always find your way back home."

Max closed her mouth. "That's super catchy."

"You bet it is." Dustin said, who was dancing in the hallway.

"You can change your style you can change your jeans.

  You can learn to fly.

And you can chase your dreams.

You can laugh and cry but everybody knows,

You'll always find your way back home."

Inside the room--

Will and El were singing and dancing stupidly around the room, not knowing that their friends were right outside their bedroom door listening to them.

Will sang the next part, playing his guitar like a rock star.

"Your best friends,

  your little hometown.

Are waiting up wherever you go now.

You know that you can always turn around."

El giggled and danced as she began singing, using her brush as a microphone.

"Cuz this world is big and it's crazy.

And this girl is thinking that maybe.

This life is what some people dreamed about."

Then Will sang again,

"Cuz when I'm feeling down and I'm all alone.

I've always got a place where I can go.

  Cuz I know..."

They sang together and danced around the room,

"You can change your hair and you can change your clothes.

You can change your mind that's just the way it goes.

You can say goodbye and you can say hello.

But you'll always find your way back home."

El tripped while she was dancing, causing her and Will to burst out laughing, making it hard to sing but that didn't stop them from doing so.

"You can change your style.

 You can change your jeans.

 You can learn to fly.

And you can chase your dreams.

 You can laugh and cry.

 But everybody knows.

You'll always find your way back home."

Outside the room--

They had decided to open the door wide enough so they could see their friends. Dustin, Lucas, and Max had to hold in their laughter at Will and El's awful dancing but Mike just smiled.

He was really happy to see her so happy. She was nervous about moving in with the Byers, thinking that she'd just be a burden to Joyce and that Jonathan and Will wouldn't like her, but the first night over her and Will had hit it off and became super close.

NO, Mike wasn't jealous at all. El and Will were siblings after all and he was happy to see his girlfriend and best friend getting along so well.

Will continued singing,

"Where they know exactly who you are.

Where the real you is a superstar.

You know it's never too far away."

They sang together again,

"You can change your hair and you can change your clothes.

You can change your mind that's just the way it goes.

You can say goodbye and you can say hello.

But you'll always find your way back home."

With a start, Mike realized this song was about both El and Will.

The lyrics, 'you can change your hair and you can change your clothes' was about El and when she wore that blonde wig and pink dress.

The lyrics, 'you can chase your dreams' was about Will and his dream to become a well known artist one day. He still hadn't given up on that yet.

"You can change your hair and you can change your clothes.

you can change your mind that's just the way it goes.

You can say goodbye and you can say hello.

But you'll always find your way back home."

The lyrics, 'you can change your mind' was about when El became apart of Kali's gang but decided to come back to Hawkins. She found her way back home.

"You can change your style.

 You can change your jeans.

 You can learn to fly.

 You can chase your dreams.

 You can laugh and cry.

 But everybody knows.

You'll always find your way back home!"

The lyrics, 'you can laugh and cry' could be about whenever Will has a nightmare or a flashback.

The Party pushed the door open all the way and clapped and cheered.

Will and El jumped, startled, but then relaxed once they realized it was their friends.

Will groaned. "Please tell me you didn't see and hear all of that."

Dustin put an arm around Will's shoulders. "Hear all of it? Yes. See all of it? No."

"Oh come on!" Will said. "You're going to tease us forever!"

"Yup." Max smirked.

Mike walked over to El and wrapped her in a hug. "You have a beautiful voice."

El blushed. "Thanks." She hugged him back.

"Those songs were amazing." He kissed her cheek and pulled away from the embrace.

The rest of the day was filled with laughter, singing, dancing, and teasing.

Just a normal day for The Party.

The End.

I'm not sure how I feel about this one. I feel like it was kind of rushed but it was tiring.
