|THE NEXT SHERLOCK HOLMES|

"Her discovery led to great things, one of them being the man she sat by. But when destiny twists their lives, something kills them both."

•°•°•

Alice gripped the book tightly as she watched Emmett walked down the hallway, using the back of his hand to wipe off excess blood that dangled on his chin. His stature was strong but still shaking slightly from the adrenaline or more so vampire version of it in him, that felt good, he thought as he looked down at the crimson-red fluid that was stained on his hand. Alice glanced up to him, her mouth-watering at the smell and sight of blood. "Mind if we switch?" She questioned, already placing her novel by her side and standing up. "That does smell delicious."

Emmett nodded and switched places with Alice, he didn't want to disturb Daniella and wake her up if he entered her room. So he stayed outside and he didn't mind, he was comfortable and even hours later, when the clock was closing in on the three in the morning, he was on the couch and watching a movie with the volume turned down enough for Daniella to continue to slumber.

But when he suddenly heard her door creak open, the sound of her feet mushing the carpet under her weight, that's when he lifted himself off and he made his way over to the hall to find the bathroom's light slowly diminishing as she retreated away. He grimaced when his ears picked up the noises and he waited patiently for her to finish. When she did, she looked at him in confusion, her hair tangled into a nest behind her head and her eyes drooping with how tired she was, but silently, she extended her arm out. "Come on," she whispered and eagerly, he followed. Together, the walked to her bed and she tossed herself into the mountain of blankets before patting the spot next to her. He was hesitant to lay next to her and he wondered why, he did earlier, but now, it felt off. Almost as if he was breaking a rule, but once his eyes met her beautiful, shining blue ones, he relaxed and laid himself next to her.

Her eyes, dropping from her escape from the depths of her dreams, watched as he moved, how the mattress fell with his weight. Studying Daniella for a moment, noticing how she was about to fall back asleep, he tried to make as much space as possible for them as he was large with a height that went way over six feet and for the girl next to him, he was like a cat compared to her size that reminded him of a mouse. Her hair was clumped together behind her and he hesitantly pulled some away from her face so she could sleep more comfortably. "Thank you," she whispered and he didn't know if it was from the small thing he did or the way she led him into her room, wanting a friend to be near her as she slept.

The moon was shielded by her lace curtains, but light still leaked through and created a glamorous glow on her skin. He could see her small details before but this time it was painted with a different look that made him fascinated. Her freckles were sprinkled on her skin, large and small ones scattered against her. Pimples could be seen across her pale features and as much as she got irritated by them and grew self-conscious, Emmett didn't care. They just added to who she was. He knew that being perfect was impossible, that's why there was imperfect and that was what Daniella Morgan exactly was; imperfect. It could be seen as negative to say such a thing, but he hated people who saw themselves as perfect, being imperfect was much better. You were different from either the inside or the outside with Daniella's flaws, it made her that special word.

She was beautiful and always would be and no matter if she grimaces at her acne or her stretch marks on her thighs, he would adore them equally as her. He thought it was insane that the day he walked through the lunchroom, complaining once again about math since they seem to change it always whenever the years passed, he found a stranger sitting amongst his family. He was a bit shocked to see his family making friends, especially a mortal, but once she lifted her head, her golden curls framing her charming features and when her lips curled upwards when she saw him, he knew she was going to change him. The feeling came instantly and he became addicted to her quickly. He hated himself at first, he had Rosalie and with how she felt - her conflicting emotions that she was growing agitated from - he had to realize the truth that Daniella was his true mate.

They were meant for each other.

Love was still there for Emmett and Rosalie and it always would be. He would thank her every day for what she had done to him and created him to be the man he was today, but sadly, he never had the courage. But when he tried to, he could only muster up a small, grateful smile and she would match one too.

At that moment, though, as the moon continued to shine brighter than anyone, he stayed by Daniella's side and decided then and there that he would never leave her. It was his own personal law that he created. Leaving her would be similar to dying all over again because like she said before, he was alive and if he wasn't, he wouldn't be pulling her closer to him, feeling the need to let the space between them disappear.

"You really don't know who you exactly are in my life," he whispered, his volume level lowered to a point where she wouldn't hear. "You're gonna do great things and I know you already do that, but you're going to be an expert at it." Grinning, he rubbed her covered arms. "A-And I think I like you, Dani, but in a way that I don't think you'll realize. I like you as a friend, of course, I do, but this, this is something else and maybe one day you'll feel something similar."

And if she chose just to be friends, then that was alright. As long as the shy, curly-haired blond with sapphire eyes, he would be positively fine.

•°•°•

As she brushed through her tangled, golden curls, she bit her lip in both, pain and frustration while behind her, sitting on the bed and cringing at her noises of pain, was Emmett Cullen. He stayed the night until her eyes slowly and lazily opened to reveal her bright eyes.

Placing the pink torture device for her hair to the side, she grabbed a scrunchie and tied her hair to the back of her head before hopping onto her feet, and sending a lopsided grin towards her friend. "I'm gonna make some breakfast and well, I don't know if Sum is back..." Fear for her friend consumed her body as she thought of the idea of Summer Morgan catching a boy inside their home; inside Daniella's bedroom.

But, Emmett shook his head. "I may not be like my brother-" she furrowed her brows. What did he mean by that? She thought to herself, watching him rise to his feet and stalk towards her. "-but I do feel your fear. Last time I checked, I could hear her snoring away in her room and now-" he cupped his hand and placed it by his ear, leaning towards the door of the bedroom, "-she's still sleeping away. I can even smell the hint of alcohol." Rolling her eyes, she exited the room with Emmett right behind her and he was memorized by how her hair bounced with each step she took. Her hair, similar to springs, bounced up and down and when she felt his stare, she turned on her heel and gave him a quirked eyebrow and a confused look. "Yes?"

"Your hair..." He trailed off, already hating how he couldn't express how he was feeling about the small part of her. But then, feeling like he found something to finally say after an awkward silence made them both fumble in their place, he let it out. "Your hair, it's beautiful. I don't know if I've said it before, but I think it's beautiful." And with a smile and her cheeks lighting up into a rosy color, he muttered quietly, "Just like you."

His words fell in the air. Walking into the kitchen where he found her bringing out a carton of eggs from the refrigerator, a small skillet already on the stove, he leaned against the refrigerator, looking at her every move. As a chef in its own restaurant, she was skilled in knowing what she was doing. She grabbed a spatula, preparing herself for the next task after she whisked her eggs, evening getting some of the runny, yellow substance on her clothes. But she didn't mind.

Always being clean was a task that she found extremely difficult, though she loved having an organized room.

Silence drifted into the room once again, but the silence was more comfortable. It didn't leave the two awkward or anxious but instead, calm. They relaxed, her shoulders fell and she let her movements become slower. Daniella let time take control of actions. Her hands were skillful as she flipped the eggs, making sure they were done almost evenly to where she wouldn't taste something wet. Her fingers, the ones that had chipped mulberry-colored nail polish, took the skillet and let her eggs slide off and onto her plate and on the chair, the one that was bought and used for many, many years, was Emmett and he watched as she walked over to the table. Each step is taken gracefully.

"I feel mean eating in front of you," she suddenly whispered, poking her fork in his direction. Sitting in front of her, the tall vampire shrugged and gently brought his finger up to lower her fork. "I ate last night. Go on," he ordered with a smile and when she finally grew one too, she dived right in and blushed when he continued to watch her.

"So-" Emmett suddenly began when silence filled the room they sat in again, her ears perking up when his thick voice made its way towards her. "-what do you think of it all? The supernatural part of the world, because, as much as it can be terrifying, there are other things in our world. Witches and wolves are there."

Being part of the supernatural world was something that wasn't on her life's schedule. She didn't plan for it at all, but in the end, she didn't seem to mind. It brought some amazing people into her life - one of them was even sitting with her in her kitchen! Daniella thought for a moment, wolves and witches? She thought he was playing around for a moment, but when her gaze hardened on him, he continued to keep the same face he had on when he asked her that question: curiosity. A blonde curl escaped from the back of her head and as she pushed it behind her ear, she answered. "I, well, I don't know. I only met you guys, vampires, maybe later on in life, I could see the other beings if I wasn't so scared to. But for you guys, how I feel about you, I-I think I've grown accustomed to it. I was feeling so awful because I was beginning to believe things that back then I thought was rude of me to do." Then, her face lit up a smudge and she cracked a smirk, one that was similar to ones he would always be seen doing. "I didn't know I was actually cracking the Cullens open. Maybe I'm like Sherlock Holmes."

The Cullen's features twisted into and he furrowed his brows. "Did I actually hear you say you were like Sherlock Holmes?" Giggles burst through her lips while she tried to take a bite of her food. He continued his cause of making her create he bubbly sound, "Are you serious? Maybe I'll call up Alice and see if she has any fun, old-timey clothes just for you, huh? We'll grab you a magnifying glass and a partner to help and maybe, just maybe, we'll see if you're, in fact, the next Sherlock Holmes?"

Her giggles grew louder until suddenly she heard a groan come down the hall. Her eyes lifted and found a very exhausted and drowsy, Summer Morgan, escape from her room. "I love you with all my heart, but for the love of God, please be quiet." And when her sister's eyes lifted this time, scanning the kitchen, she furrowed her brows. "What are you even laughing at?"

When Daniella looked back at the person in front of her, she found his seat empty and she sighed. "No one," and Summer watched as her sister picked up her plate and went over to the sink, her disappointment being hinted at she walked away. Summer didn't notice and walked back into her room, shutting the door behind her.
