Chapter 37: New Year with Friends
2014 is the year where it all started. 2014 was the year I finally got out from my university. It was also the year where I first took my step on South Korea, my favorite place ever. It was also the year where I was able to fulfill my dreams, and it was also the year where I met him, Mark.
A lot of things happened this year and in a few minutes, we’re going to have a new year. 2015 – Another 12 months, 52 weeks, 365 days, 8,760 hours, 525,600 minutes, and 3, 153,600 seconds of experiences, progress and may be heartbreaks too. We don’t know what will happen to us the next year.
I’ve been here in Korea for about 6 months, and it will be my first time to experience New Year here. I wonder how they celebrate it.
I looked at my phone and it’s already 8pm and by 9pm we’ll be gathering there at the rooftop, to have some bonding time. Who’re there? Of course, 15& will be there. When it comes to party, Jimin and Yerin will never miss it. GOT7 will be there too of course, there’s a lot of food there. They will never miss it.
Actually, GOT7 and 15& planned this. We also invited 5live and 6mix to join us but it seems like they’re busy so we don’t know if they’ll come. We also invited our seniors some of them said yes, some said they’ll celebrate at home.
“Unnie, we’ll be going there already to prepare some foods.” Jimin said.
“Oh, okay. I’ll be going there later, I’m just writing something.” I said.
I was writing a message of thanksgiving to God for giving me this wonderful year. I guess, after the year I was born, this is the next best year that has happened in my life. After writing it, I decided to go there.
I went out of the dorm and started walking.
“Rhianne-a?”
I looked at my back and saw JB there.
“Oh, JB. You’re going up too?” I asked him.
“Yes.” he said. “Let’s go together.”
We started walking together to the rooftop.
“Rhianne, can I ask something?” he said.
“Sure. What’s it?” I said.
“Do you feel jealous when Mark is with other girls?” he asked me.
Suddenly, my heart started to beat irregularly again. I stopped for a bit and leaned on the wall. I can see my hands shaking.
“Are you alright?” he asked me.
I started having difficulty on my breathing again. Why am I like this? What is happening with me?
JB held my hand. “You’re cold.” he said.
I closed my eyes and breathe deeply.
“I’m fine.” I said. “These past few days, whenever I hear Mark’s name, I’m starting to palpitate or what.”
JB smiled, “It’s just that may be you’re too in love with him.”
“Maybe.” I said.
I started walking again. “About the question you were asking,”
I paused for a bit. “Yeah, I feel jealous. Like always.”
Then I looked at JB. “I’m the kind of person who is selfish. It’s just that maybe, I wanted a lot of love since I haven’t felt it for all of my life.” I said.
JB smiled.
“A lot of people loves you now.” he said. “Including me.”
I looked again at JB.
“Of course, I’m your fan.” he said.
And I smiled at JB. I thought he meant something else. We then arrived at the rooftop and saw Jinyoung, Jimin, Yerin, Bambam and Youngjae preparing.
“Where are Jackson and Yugyeom?” I asked.
“Uhh, they’re buying something.” JB said.
Suddenly, I realized, Mark was not here.
“Is Mark with them?” I asked them.
Youngjae and Bambam looked at each other.
“Mark hyung is just getting something in the dorms.” Youngjae said utterly.
“In the dorms? But I was the last one in the dorms.” JB said.
“I… I don’t know.” Bambam said. “He said that he’ll just get something at the dorm.”
It’s kinda weird. Bambam and Youngjae are kinda tensed with what they are saying. Is there something that Mark is doing that I should not know?
I texted him.

Oppa, where are you? I’m already here at the rooftop.
I waited for his reply. Suddenly my phone rang. He was calling.
“Where are you?” I asked.
“You’re so sweet.” he said.
“What?” I said.
“Mark!” a girl shouted.
“Is that Baek Ah Yeon?” I asked.
“Uhh.. yeah. GOT7 invited her and I was here to fetch her.” he said.
“Oh, is that so? Okay.” I said then I ended our phone call.
So he’s with Baek Ah Yeon now. That’s why maybe Bambam and Youngjae are tensed. I came near them.
“You should have told me earlier that Mark is with Baek Ah Yeon.” I said to Youngjae and Bambam.
They looked at each other, “I’m sorry noona. It’s just that maybe you’ll get mad at Mark hyung.” Bambam said.
I smiled at them, “Why will I get mad? I don’t get jealous easily.” I said.
“Next time, we’ll tell the truth.” Youngjae said.
“Good boy.” I said as I tapped him.
I noticed that JB was looking at me, slowly shaking his head. I looked at him and asked him why but he just shook his head and went to Jinyoung. What did I say?
“We’re here!” Jackson exclaimed.
Jackson and Yugyeom entered and they were holding bags of fireworks.
“oooh!” Jimin exclaimed. “Fireworks!”
“During New Year, we should be happy and noisy so we bought these.” Jackson said. “By the way, where is Mark?”
“He’s with Baek Ah Yeon.” I said.
They all looked at me.
“Why?” I said. “Did I just say something wrong?”
Jinyoung suddenly pulled me far from them.
“Why is Mark with Baek Ah Yeon?” he asked.
“Mark said that GOT7 invited her. So he was fetching her.” I said. “What’s the matter?”
“Tsk.” Jinyoung said.
“Hey, what’s the matter?” I asked Jinyoung.
“Don’t you feel jealous?” he said.
I just smiled weakly.
“No need to answer.” he said. “I already know the answer from your eyes.”
Jinyoung is really good at knowing the emotions of people. He can read it in our eyes. That’s why I can’t pretend that I’m fine even though I’m not.
He pulled me, “Stay with JB first.” he said.
“What’s happening?” I asked JB. “Is there something I should know?”
JB just smiled. “They’re acting kinda weird these days.”
“Yeah, they’re acting really weird.” I said.
We then prepared the tables and some of the sound systems then Mark and Baek Ah Yeon came.
“Annyeong haseyo!” Ah Yeon said.
Mark saw that I’m with JB so he immediately went to us.
“Hey” he said.
I just smiled at Mark. He then kissed me on my forehead. Then he held my hand. My hands are still trembling a little.
“Are you alright?” Mark said.
“Yes.” I said. “I’m fine.”
“I’m sorry I didn’t inform you that I’m going to fetch Ah Yeon.” he said.
“It’s fine.” I said. “Don’t worry, I’m not jealous.”
He smiled at me and hugged me.
“Since everyone is here, why don’t we start?” Mark said.
The emcee for today is Jimin and Jackson. So they went in front and started to talk. Meanwhile, Jinyoung talked to Mark and then Yerin went to me.
“Unnie, aren’t you jealous?” she asked. “Cause me, I’m so jealous.”
“I trust Mark.” I said.
“Mark oppa is worth trusting but Ah Yeon unnie, not.” she said.
“Yah, Yerin-a, just don’t let people ruin your day. In a few minutes we’ll be on the new year.” I said.
“I just don’t want you to get hurt.” Yerin said.
I was touched with what Yerin said. I never thought she will say that.
“I know I told you before that you should not hurt Mark oppa, but don’t forget about yourself.” she said.
I nodded at Yerin. “I’ll not let my heart be broken again, and I think, Mark will not hurt me right?” I said.
“Of course, Mark oppa won’t.” Yerin said the she smiled at me.
“The first couple we’re calling is…” Jimin said.
Jackson took a piece of paper.
“JB!” Jackson said. “And…”
He took another paper.
“Rhianne!” Jackson said.
Mark immediately looked at me.
“What’s the game?” I asked.
I wasn’t listening to them when they were announcing the game. Yerin and I were talking so yeah, I don’t know the game.
“It’s the ‘Give Me Some Sugar’ game.” Jimin said awkwardly.
“Mark, is it okay for you to let Rhianne play this game?” Jackson said.
I looked at Mark.
“Why should you ask Mark? I mean it’s a game and we randomly choose the players so everyone should at least play.” Baek Ah Yeon said. “Right?”
In this place, only Baek Ah Yeon doesn’t know about my relationship with Mark. We promised that only 15& and GOT7 should know it plus Onii-chan and Jessica.
Everyone started to act weird.
“Ah Yeon is right. It’s a game and randomly chosen. You shouldn’t ask anyone if it’s fine with them.” Mark said.
I looked at Mark and I was asking him if he was really sure it’s okay for me to play this game. He just nodded and asked me to go there.
“Okay. So, let’s ask JB and Rhianne to be in front of everybody.” Jackson said.
The mechanics of this game actually is the pair must face each other with their hands tied behind their backs. The pair also has their blindfolds and then one sweet food (candy bar, doughnut, etc.) will be put in one partner’s mouth. If the sweet is still with covering, they should unwrap it without using their hands. The pair who finishes the entire treat without using their hands will win.
“Next we have Jinyoung oppa!” Jimin said. “And…”
“Bambam!” Jimin added.
They continued calling names and there were 4 pairs – JB and I, Jinyoung and Bambam, Yerin and Youngjae, Yugyeom and Jackson.
Jimin started to put blindfolds and tied our hands.
“Let’s make it carefully so you we won’t be able to kiss each other.” JB told me.
“Yes.” I said.
Oooh. How I wish Mark was my partner. I’m sure Mark will get mad with this.

The game.
Everyone was already lining up and they already have their treat. Mark was staring at Rhianne and JB, just to make sure JB won’t kiss Rhianne.
“On your mark, ready, set, go!” Jimin said.
They started to unwrap the coverings of the treat.
Jackson and Yugyeom started the game so fast that the treat fell down and they kissed each other.
Jimin was so happy that she couldn’t talk anymore.
“Yah, Yugyeom-a, why did you kiss me?” Jackson said.
“Hyung! I did not kiss you. You were the one.” Yugyeom said.
Baek Ah Yeon was very happy with what is happening but Mark is focused on JB and Rhianne.
JB and Rhianne were eating the treat carefully until their lips almost reach each other. The moment Mark saw that he immediately went to them and held Rhianne’s hand.
“Stop now.” Mark said to Rhianne.
“Yah, Mark! Don’t ruin the game!” Baek Ah Yeon shouted.
Mark looked at Ah Yeon. Suddenly,
“We have a winner!” Jimin said. “Yerin and Youngjae!”
Suddenly, Baek Ah Yeon went near the couples. They were still facing each other and can’t move because of their hands were tied at the back and they can’t seem to remove it.
“One, two, three.” Baek Ah Yeon said and she took a picture of everyone.
“Ooh,” Baek Ah Yeon said. “JB and Rhianne looks good together.”
Mark looked at Baek Ah Yeon and immediately removed Rhianne’s blindfold and the thing on her hand. He also did it with JB. Mark then grabbed Rhianne’s hand and let JB eat the remaining pieces of the treat.

Rhianne’s POV
Finally, the game has ended. Mark grabbed my hands and we went down already and he was just standing there, saying nothing.
“I should’ve not played.” I said to Mark.
“It’s my fault. I can’t even fight for you.” Mark said.
“Yah, we promised each other that our relationship will be a secret cause if people will find out, all our dreams will be crashed down.” I said.
“I’m sorry.” Mark said.
I hugged him, “No need to say sorry. You did nothing.” I said.
“That’s why I’m sorry because I did nothing. There’s nothing I can do.” he said.
Suddenly I saw Baek Ah Yeon looking at us so I immediately removed my hug from Mark.
“Ah Yeon is looking at us.” I said.
Then Mark pretended to distance himself from me and I went to Jinyoung.
“Bambam was so careless!” Jinyoung said.
“Oh, hyung, sorry.” Bambam said while laughing.
Jinyoung hit Bambam pretending to be mad at him. I don’t know what happened with their game but all I know is something happened that made Jinyoung like that. Maybe they kissed or whatever. But I know Jackson and Yugyeom kissed. Hahaha.
Suddenly, I saw JB approaching us.
“At least we didn’t kiss.” JB told me.
“Yeah.” I said.
“Is Mark mad?” he asked.
“Not actually.” I said. “I guess.”
“Good.” JB said and he continued walking.
Jackson started to talk again, “That game was so gross. I won’t do it again, like ever.”
“But you look good. HAHAHA.” Jimin said. “So to continue our party, we’ll be having more games.”
We played more and more games until we realized that it’s already 11:45pm meaning, 15 more minutes and it’s already New Year.
We started to go to our positions, then JB and Jackson were busy with the fireworks. Mark suddenly came near me.
“Hold my hand until it reaches 12midnight.” Mark said.
“Okay.” I said. “But why?”
He grabbed my hand and said, “So we’ll end up this year together, and we’ll open another year together.”
I smiled at him. I never thought Mark has this attitude within him. He’s so sweet and corny in short sweet corn. Hahaha. Okay fine, that’s a joke. -_-
“Forever and Always he said.
“Forever and Always.” I answered then he smiled at me.
We waited for the countdown and we were left with last 1 minute.
“Last one minute!” Jackson shouted.
“59…58…57…” we counted.
Everyone continued counting.
“I’m afraid with this.” I told Mark.
I’m afraid with fireworks. They make my heart beats irregularly.
“Don’t be, we’re holding hands right?” he said.
“I might let go of my hands to cover my ears.” I said.
“Then, I’ll be the one who’ll hold your hands so even if you let go of my hand, I’m still holding you.” he said.
I smiled at him. He’s just a very sweet boyfriend.
“10…9…8…7…6…5…4…3…2…1…” we counted.
Suddenly the fireworks started to blow and I was shocked with it and there’s one thing I noticed. Mark and I were not holding hands anymore.
Who let go?

Who let go? That's the question everyone should answer. I just updated another chapter today.
Uhm guys, I'm going to say this now, I will not be able to update for one week or more. I have my exams on computer science, calculus, and statistics and I really need to pass those exams. So please bear with me. Hope you can wait for my next update! (Maybe on the 14th or 15th of this month.)
