you held you're head up high
and dreamed of counting
all the stars and constellations
with someone who adores
them as much as you do,
and hope that that perfect person
can see the whole galaxy in your eyes,
see behind the pretty mask you held,
see underneath that quiet mouth
in the corner of the classroom,
reading a book that everyone discards
and still find every flaw on your face
as beautiful as the waning gibbous
painted on that messy art canvas
hung on a gray wall of a museum.
you caress the rose you picked out
on a rainy evening when no one
was around to see the tears falling,
and hoped someone can cup
your rosy, freckled cheeks gently
and wipe the tears away softly,
like the ripples caused by your hand
of a thriving pond filled with life.
you look at the petite flowers
swarming you from all around
while you sit there in the middle
of a flowy field of colors
that took you hours to travel here
by road in your battered car,
stargazing at the diamonds in the sky,
and hoping for someone
to think of you as dainty as the tulips
softly kissed by the breeze passing by,
as bright as the rhinestones
clustered into big groups of beauty
blinking off in the purple distance.
you closed your eyes
and waited for a day where you'll
meet that perfect person
standing by your doorway
with a smile that told
they'd wanted to see you as well.
and you waited.
