Kate Andrews

"Get the fuck up.." Kevin's voice rang out as I was met with a rush of cold air. My blanket was torn with quickness from my sleepy grasp and I reacted with an animal like groan. Toned shoulders left bare, tiny hairs standing at attention, I tucked up beneath my pillow as best as I could. "And for fucks sake sleep with clothes on."

"What the hell Kev, get out.." I groaned once more, as I smeared my head down against the mattress and twisted up against the wall. Suddenly, I lifted my head glancing down at the empty spot beside me.

"She already left.. and you have school today." Kevin turned and grabbed for the door knob as he walked out. He tossed a protein bar at me and then shut the door with a resounding slam.

Kevin was alright. Well.. he was my best friend actually, and also happened to be my big brother. He had graduated six years prior and worked his ass off to put a roof over my head. I worked when I could too. A few nights a week at the car shop he owned and most every weekend. Accept for basketball season. I had been team captain since my sophomore year. Coach thought we could go to state. Kev and I got by. Our parents were gone. Best not to talk about it really.

I rolled over and settled my feet against the cool hardwoods, toes stretching out and drumming out a soft pattern as I brushed my hands back through my hair. I glanced back one last time to the empty spot on my bed as I grabbed the protein bar and peeled it open. Brooklyn was fun. A lot of fun. A nice distraction from time to time. She didn't seem to want anything more than a warm body beside her every now and then and that was fine with me. She was in college. Studying to be an optometrist. She knew she wanted to move after college, which worked out. I found it was easiest if I didn't let myself get too close to people unless I knew I had an out. Too many ways to get hurt. Moving away was as good of an out as it gets.

"Kate! Get up!" Kevin yelled as he finished pouring himself some coffee.

"I am!" I yelled through a mouth full of food.

"No you're not! The floor hasn't creaked yet!"

I chuckled and stood up to see if he was right. Of course it creaked. That's how he always knew.

"There you go! Now go get 'em girl!" He laughed and then I heard him slide the coffee carafe back into it's spot.

I shook my head and hurried over to grab some clothing. To be honest, I'd forgotten school was starting. It just wasn't a priority to me. Whether I graduated or not, I was going to work full time with Kev when the year ended. Just one more year. One. God that sounded good.

I lazily fell out from my car. 1967 Ford Mustang. If it wasn't the sexiest car in the world, I didn't know what was. Oh god I loved my car. Kev found it in a junk yard, about to be wasted. He rescued it and fixed it up for my sixteenth birthday.

I shrugged my shoulders as I tossed my backpack around and weaved my arms through. I tugged at the straps to tighten it up a bit. It was an old habit. I hated when it didn't sit just right. With a quick flick of my wrist I closed the door behind me and went to head inside. I wasn't too late. Hopefully my first bell teacher didn't have a stick up her ass.

"Andrews!"

My shoulders tucked up near my ears quickly and I tried to speed up. I reached for the door handle only to find a hand slamming it shut ahead of me.

"Andrews. It's the first day. You couldn't show up on time?"

I turned around, eyes rolling before I glued on a charming smile and pulled back my hood. My dirty blonde hair fell over my shoulders, before I brushed my fingers back through it.

"Principal Peaches.. how are you on this fine morning? Looking beautiful as ever."

She smirked, though she tried not to as she crossed her arms and shook her head. Her pale blonde hair falling carelessly down her shoulders and landing perfectly just across her chest. A bit lower and it would perfectly frame her...

"Eyes, Andrews.. and my name is Seaches, and you know it."

"Peaches is more suiting" I smiled as I popped my eyes up to hers and shifted to one foot, the other propped up playfully against the brick wall behind me.

"It's inappropriate, Andrews." She lifted her brow, attempting to come off as professional, though that little smirk still lingered.
I sighed and lifted my hands in defense.

"Alright, Seaches it is. Just know I'm thinking Peaches every time."

"I don't want to know what you're thinking...ever.." she chuckled just barely but quickly stuffed the thought away, and returned to her previous stance.

"Probably safest. Okay, see you later." I winked and turned, trying to grab the handle once more. She leaned and pressed on the door, keeping her hand there this time.

"Nice try. Lunch detention Andrews. Now go to class and be nice to the new teacher. It's her first year. She's promising and I don't want you scaring her off before she has a chance to be everything she can be."

"You sound like a military campaign." I smiled back over my shoulder. "See you at lunch.. coffee with vanilla cream still?"

She shook her head and pulled the door open.

"Go!" She smiled.

Peaches was beautiful. Married. He was an ass though. I'd walked in on plenty of conversations over the phone. She never looked happy when they spoke. If I had thought I had any sort of chance I would have tried to show her a better side of life. Maybe after graduation. A girl can dream.

I slipped through the door and pulled out my schedule.

"Hazelnut.." she called out.

I turned around with a slick smirk.

"You got it... Peaches." I chuckled and quickly rounded the corner before she could stop me.

The oh so familiar sound of my knuckles against the solid wooden door rang out into the obnoxiously quiet hall. The school smelled like it did last year. Paper and dispare. The soft clamor inside the classroom paused briefly before a set of heels clicked playfully across the floor. Moving closer and closer as I rested my palm against the frame and stared down at the old Converse wrapped around my foot. Perfect shoes.. really.

The door slid open, followed by a shift in pressure then a puff of warm air. My gaze stayed down on my shoes as I started to work on kicking up a scuff from the tile.

"Can I help you?" A soft voice rang out as I leaned a bit to dig into the darker part of the scuff.

"Uh.. ya.. I'm in this class. I mean.. you can let me in or give me a note."

I was finally able to get the scuff up, a satisfied smile grew on my lips "I'd gladly go hang out with Principal Pea.. " my jaw dropped and voice trailed off as my eyes fluttered up over the black heels, the sun kissed legs that curved perfectly and then tapered into a toned thigh. I gazed across them, looking up slowly and just as I felt my blood pressure spike I was blocked by a dark gray skirt just above the knee. Damnit. I looked up and found a set of unimpressed green eyes staring back as they watched my own crystal blue orbs sink back down to the white button up top that rested gently on the plump breasts just below. If I could have just leaned..a bit.. closer...I may have been able.. to see..

She cleared her throat and lifted an accusing brow. I quickly glanced back to her eyes. Wow.. that was sexy. Dear god.

"So... About that note?" I smirked.

She rolled her eyes and stepped aside.

"Go sit down. I'll assume you're Kaitlin Andrews.."

"Kate.. and yes. So you've heard of me? I didn't realize my reputation proceeded me that much."

I grinned and slipped past, the outside of my jacket brushing up against her chest as she leaned against the door to make room. I hadn't meant to do it, but judging by the annoyed sigh she emitted soon after, she definitely thought I had. I'm not saying I'm mad about it happening, but it was truly an accident. Honest.

"I'm Miss Janes. Please try to be on time tomorrow. And it was simple deductive reasoning Miss Andrews. Nothing more."

I caught a few glimpses from my peers as I passed by. A few knowing smiles and a couple of eye rolls. Not everyone appreciated my sense of humor.. such was life.

I dropped my bag down on the floor before kicking it under my chair. With a quick spin I flopped down into my seat, then reached into my pocket and pulled out my earbuds before shoving them into my ears.

I turned and kicked my feet up against the desk next to me, then crossed one ankle under the other at the edge.

It was Eric's desk. He was a dick. Smart guy, but a dick none the less. Thus, the feet on his desk.

"Get your feet off my desk.." he scolded, teeth gritted as he glared at me. Of course I pretended not to hear him, though I couldn't help but to smile.

I closed my eyes and leaned back, arms crossed fitfully and my chin rested down against my chest. My blue orbs fluttered open and shut as the music in my ears sang me to sleep. Or so I was hoping.

With a firm grip on my ankle my feet were suddenly pushed to the side and fell loudly against the floor. As I went to yell at Eric I found myself staring at a set of breasts. With haste I glanced up to the eyes glaring down from above me and I smiled.

Her mouth moved, though I didn't quite catch the words.

"I'm sorry?" I asked loudly, and then the quiet roar of music filled the stiff silence that had settled across the room.

She stared at me "headphones." She said pointedly and let her hand hang down ahead of me. A few students smirked, having seen this little skit before.

I looked at her tender hand briefly "oh..yes" I grabbed it and shook it firmly "nice to meet you too."

I raised my voice above the music blasting in my ears and smiled up at her, brows lifted in a feigned innocence. The room was suddenly filled with a burst of laughter. Some uninhibited, some pushing through clenched fingers wrapped about their mouths while their bodies shook forcibly.

I wouldn't have thought it possible but she somehow managed to appear even less amused than she had before. Her jaw jetted out just a bit, accentuating the already prominent line. Her chest tightened and she stiffened her back as she pulled her hand from my grip, the smooth skin leaving a tingling shiver behind as she reached and pulled the headphones from my ears.

"No headphones in class Miss Andrews, and keep your feet to yourself. Or do I need to send you back to kindergarten for a refresher course on manners." The room filled with laughter once more. It was more contained though as they all looked back to the board. She wrapped my headphones into a neat loop about her slender fingers and walked back up towards the front of the room.

"You can grab these in after school detention. They'll be waiting with Ms. Seaches." She lifted the headphones up briefly as she stared me down.

I smirked and nodded my head in admittance of defeat. At least in that moment. I was only 15 minutes in to my senior year and I'd already landed two detentions. Woops.

She turned with a grateful sigh and began class once more, first writing her name on the board then starting some lame attempt at getting to know us. It was always the same. The young teacher would come in with intentions of fixing the system one high risk student at a time. It was insulting actually. They didn't actually care. When the dismissal bell rang at the end of the day they couldn't wait to not see us until the next day.

"Miss Andrews.." she said softly.

I glanced up to her and stared blankly for a moment before she rolled her eyes and apparently repeated herself.

"Tell us three truths and one lie... About yourself" she added quickly, already seeing the glimmer in my eyes.

I smiled and stood up slowly, then shoved my hands into the loose pockets of my jacket.
"I'm eighteen. I live with my big brother. My parents are dead. I love school."

The room filled with an awkward silence briefly before my final statement sunk in. Then they all had another good laugh.

Miss Janes didn't look amused. She also didn't seem surprised. She sighed but kept her eyes in mine.

"I'm sorry to hear about your parents, Miss Andrews. I'm also sorry that school has let you down. Hopefully I can change that at least a little." She unwrapped and rewrapped my headphones before smiling and moving on to the next student. "Eric?"

I spent the rest of the hour watching her fiddle with the tip of my headphones wrapped about her hand. It was... Something.. Watching those hands move skillfully about. So slender, yet they looked so strong and incredibly dexterous. I couldn't help but to wonder what else they could do.

"Miss Andrews?" I turned my head back just as I'd reached the doorway. Of course she wasn't finished with me.

"Yes, Miss Janes, I'm going to miss you too." I smiled and turned around, shifting casually to avoid the rest of the class as they rushed past me. Though Eric still managed to catch my shoulder as he pushed by.

"Dyke." He muttered.
"Dick." I said back louder.

Of course Miss Janes only heard me though. She sighed and closed her eyes before she tilted her head quickly towards the front desk, inviting me to sit. I walked back and slid into my seat as she marched over to the door and shut it before turning around on her heel, arms crossed tightly and made her way towards me.

"Is this how the year is going to go?" She settled at the desk beside me and rested back against it. Her skirt hiked just a bit and I could see the bottom lace of her slip as she leaned her palms back down behind her.

I cleared my throat and tried not to look down.

"uh.. what" I wet my lips and shook my head "oh.. um, what do you mean?"

She lifted her brow once more, obviously aware of my struggling to keep my eyes up. She tugged down on her skirt with a scolding glance. God that was sexy. Her eyes were stunning. The forest green contrasted perfectly with her deep brown hair.

"You know what I mean. You showed up ten minutes late to class and... "

"Wait.." I interjected "That wasn't my fault, Peaches stopped me. I was only going to be like five minutes late."

She leaned forward and rolled her eyes.

"It's Seaches.. and regardless.. you were late. You interrupted my class and then on top of that you were ridiculously rude to not just me but to that boy.. Eric.. then you had to add that comment in our getting to know each other activity. I get that it's silly, but it helps me." she stared at me expectantly.

I knew what she wanted. A grand apology and for me to promise I'll change. To assure her that I would do better, be better. To make her feel like she could help the poor misbehaved girl that just needed someone that cared. All I gave her was a soft scoff.
"So?" She added.

I sat back as she waited, glancing up briefly before shrugging my shoulders.

"Okay.. "

"Okay what?" She continued to watch me with those perfect eyes. Too bad they looked so pissed off.

"Okay, I'm sorry..."

Surprisingly she didn't push for a more thorough apology. She just stood and shook her head, as she brushed a slender hand down over her skirt to straighten the hem back over her bountiful curves.

"Go to class... I expect that tomorrow you'll be on time and have a better attitude." She scolded, as she bent to write something down on her desk. She clicked the pen shut with a quick flick of her thumb and tossed it down as she lifted up a note.

I grabbed my bag and pulled it over my shoulders, brows lifted up in surprise. I figured she'd make me late without giving it a second thought. I tugged at the straps to make sure it was just right before I grabbed the note. I accidentally grabbed her fingers in the process. God they were soft. I blushed and looked down before I went for the door.

"Bye, Miss Andrews" she called out, her voice much softer again.

I slipped out and made my way towards my next class as her second period class filed in. She walked out into the hall and began greeting everyone as they walked by. I turned my head back and glanced at her briefly. She happened to look over and our eyes met. I thought I saw a small smile forming...

"Kate!"

I stopped suddenly as a set of arms wrapped up around my neck. I pulled my head back as my body came crashing into someone. My hands inadvertently lifted to settle on their hips.

"Baby I missed you!"

I looked down at Alex as she smiled and tucked her head against my shoulder. I glanced back at Miss Jane just in time to see her lowering her head for a moment and then quickly smiling at another student.

"Alex..stop calling me that" I grabbed her wrists from my neck and tucked them neatly at her side. "We broke up like two months ago."

She chuckled and grabbed my hand "So..come on.. I want you. For old times sake."

"Alex.." I whispered and glanced back around, but Miss Janes had stepped inside her room.

The bell rang and Alex tugged at my arm. "Just really quick.. in our closet" she smirked and kissed my cheek before pulling me to the back of the girls restroom and tucking us both away inside the utility closet.

I didn't know what the school expected to have happen in a remote closet left unlocked all the time, but it came in handy. No pun intended.
