Cait:
Cait did not like to show affection to other people, especially in public. In private she could be a bit more lenient.
Sole was just an overly affectionate person; it was a habit they’d brought from before they were frozen.
So mixing Cait and Sole wasn’t really a great idea.
Sole would often try to snuggle up to Cait in public; sometimes it was when they were just relaxing with Sanctuary, other times Sole would want to show affection in really inappropriate places- they once tried to hug Cait whilst they were trying to hide from some muties. Cait would push them away either with a blushing face or with a silent cry of outrage.
But when they were in private (especially after Cait got clean from chems and alcohol), Cait was a lot more accepting of affection. Cait would return any hugs that Sole asked for, and when Sole kissed her cheek, it would leave her blushing- she especially loved it when they kissed her neck.
Curie:
Curie loved the fact that Sole was always in a snuggly mood. Sole would start of by doing little things; slowly caressing Curies back as they brushed past each other, wrapping an arm around Curie’s shoulder or waist when they had sat down to eat lunch.
Curie’s favourite time that Sole was affectionate was when the pair were alone together. They would wrap their arms around her waist and pull her close, and when they were laying down together in bed, Sole would place light innocent little kisses across Curie’s face, neck and shoulders.
Curie would be more than happy to return the affection- she loved the feeling of Sole’s soft skin against her lips; the feeling of her arms wrapped around Sole’s strong waist or shoulders.
Danse:
The first time that Sole exhibited highly affectionate behaviour Danse had been very uncomfortable; affection between soldiers was completely against Brotherhood protocol, and Danse made sure that Sole understood that.
However, Sole took no heed in Danse’s words, and continued with their affectionate behaviour.
Whilst they were in Cambridge Police Station or abroad the Prydwen, Sole would leave small touches- that were considered more than professional and friendly- here and there, Sole rubbing their hands across his shoulders when passing him whilst he was sat working on his weapons.
Whilst the pair were out alone together it would be a little more physical; the small touches would become long and somewhat wanting, Sole’s hands leaving Danse’s skin feeling heated; they would hug him before leaving to lie down on their bedroll, and whilst sleeping they would lay their head as close to his legs whilst he kept watch.
After several months, Danse admitted to himself that he liked the affection- it was something so strange to him it had taken a while to warm up to- and he slowly began to return it.
Deacon:
The day that Deacon admitted his past to Sole he told them that he wasn’t one for hugs; he had been lying to them.
He liked hugs- he liked affection- but he didn’t have anyone to show him affection. Sure, he could have asked Des, or Glory (or hell, P.A.M) for some affection every now and then, but he wasn’t comfortable asking people for affection (and he was sure they’d just laugh in his face).
Sole loved hugs, and cheek kisses, and forehead kisses. Basically Sole loved giving people affection. Sole found out one day that Deacon liked them, and ever since had shown him affection that he was certain that he didn’t deserve.
Sole would always make sure they were in private (in HQ Sole would try and hide as best they could, but Deacon knew that every agent in HQ knew what was happening), and would just hug and snuggle up to him. Sole prefered to snuggle when they were lying down together- and Deacon did too.
He was slowly getting used to the feeling of Sole’s lips gently caressing the skin on his face.
Hancock:
Hancock loved it when Sole was affectionate, yet he couldn’t ever feel fully comfortable with the affection. He was, after all, a Ghoul.
He was afraid that one day Sole was going to touch him somewhere- in a particular way- that was going to make them wake up and realise exactly what he was. And then he’d have to watch as they ran for the hills away from him.
Hancock never voiced his fears, worried that if he made them verbal then Sole would make them come true. Instead, he sat and accepted their affection.
He loved the smoothness of Sole’s skin; the way that their fingertips ghosted over his charred skin, or the way that their arms felt when they wrapped around his shoulder in a hug. He loved the way that Sole’s hands gently caressed his cheeks whilst they pressed their soft lips against his own.
He loved that Sole was comfortable enough with him to give him hugs and light kisses, the affection that he’d so desperately sought after whilst he was growing up.
He loved it, yet he was still afraid of it.
MacCready:
When MacCready was in the capitol with Lucy, he loved the affection that he received from both his wife and child. Once Duncan was born, the affection turned less sexual and more romantic, and as Duncan grew into the young toddler he slowly began showing his father affection.
Once Lucy died, MacCready unintentionally started to stop showing him as much affection, and once he left for the Commonwealth he slowly began to realise just how much he was missing it.
Once he met Sole and started travelling with them, he realised just how much he’d missed it. Sole was incredibly affectionate towards him, constantly giving him light touches in passing. It started up slow at first, but after MacCready showed no hesitance, they began to show more affection more frequently.
Sure, it wasn’t Lucy, but as MacCready laid in Sole’s arms one night whilst they were in Sanctuary, he realised that he liked Sole’s kind of affection a lot. Maybe one day it would be a lot more than Lucy’s kind.
Nick:
Nick thinks that Sole is messing with him when they first show him signs of physical affection- who’d want to touch the metal skin of a synth?
One evening after Sole returned from travelling out with Piper, Piper came over to speak with Nick privately. She told him that Sole had been withdrawn and quiet, and that they hadn’t slept a wink of sleep over the past three days.
Hearing that made Nick feel uncomfortable; when he travelled with Sole they would always get at least six hours of sleep at night. Sole was an outgoing person, who loved to let people know how they were feeling, and they were anything but quiet.
That night, as Sole lay sleeping next to Nick on the bed in his office (Sole insisted on Nick lying alongside them that night whilst they slept), he thought it all over.
Maybe Sole liked showing Nick affection, and maybe Sole only ever truly felt comfortable around him.
Just maybe…
Piper:
When Piper was younger she hardly ever got affection from anyone- the only person had been Nat as she grew up.
When Sole cautiously made their way up to the entrance of the great green jewel, Piper had no idea as to the changes the stranger was going to bring.
The biggest change that they brought was showing Piper all the love and affection that she’d missed out on growing up.
Sole loved to hug Piper: when they woke up in the morning, before they went to bed at night, whilst she was typing away at her next article.
Sole loved to press gentle kisses to Pipers skin: after they showered together, after they ate their breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Sole loved to shower Piper with affection; both to show her how much she means to them and because they missed their affectionous side from before the war.
Preston:
Sole was always affectionate with Preston. However it was usually at really inappropriate times.
What’s that, Sole and Preston are running away from Super mutants? Sole joins their arm with Preston’s as they run along.
Oh, Preston is currently trying to train some new recruits? Well, watch as Sole runs up to him, wraps their arms around his shoulders and kisses him on the cheek.
Preston doesn’t mind the affection (it’s difficult to find someone within the Commonwealth to share affection with), but he would prefer it if Sole didn’t show it when they were in the middle of running for their lives or in front of important people.
X6-88:
X6 hates it when Sole is highly affectionate with him. But he allows them to do it to amuse them.
The first time Sole was affectionate with him was when he rushed them to the medical room in the Institute so that they could receive treatment from a stray bullet wound. Whilst they’d been sat on the bed getting the bullet removed from their shoulder, they’d reached over and grabbed his hand. He’d nearly reached for a scalpel and slowly sliced it off.
The second time was when they were having some time off to relax with one another. Sole had slowly slid across the sofa and wrapped their arms around his waist. He was very close to pushing them off the sofa.
Sole slowly started doing things that were more affectionate, and X6 allowed it to happen to keep them happy.
