Taurus: a stubborn bull with
eyes like an angel, horns like the
devil, and a heart like both

HE WAS STANDING RIGHT infront of me with a look in his light brown eyes.

Neither of us said anything, we just stared at each other.

"Are you just gonna stare at each other?" Austyn's obnoxious voice cut the silence and I immediately stepped out of the house and shut the door in their faces.

"I'm sorry, that was my brother." I apologized and I wanted to slam my brother's head in a brick wall.

"You're transferring to my school first thing on Monday." Marshall demanded.

My first words to my future soulmate hadn't been the last bit memorable, but neither had his.

I'd barely spoken five words to him and he was already bossing me around.

"And why can't you transfer to my school?" He didn't say anything and I assumed nobody had argued with him before. "We don't have to talk about this now."

He looked like he wanted to disagree with me but he let it go. How I managed to change his mind, I'd never know.

"I'm Char," I smiled, hoping he'd smile back.

"I'm Mars." He didn't smile but the angry wrinkles on his forehead disappeared. "My anger can get the best of me sometimes."

"That's okay." And it really was. "I'd be asking the same question."

We stared at each other until he stepped forward and grabbed my hand. His hands were rough and cold, but I didn't mind.

"Let's take a walk."

It was silent as we walked around my neighborhood. We passed by the opulent meadows and the flaming fields of the Terebellum sector.

He towered over me and his grasp on my hand was suffocating, as if he were afraid I'd run away.

Was every Aries this quiet?

If I'd learned anything from my sister, it was the complete opposite.

I cleared my throat and hoped he wouldn't give me a one-word answer, "What sector do you live in?"

"Regulus Zeta."

One word more than I wanted but he didn't say anything else. It was hard to tell if it was just his personality or if he was actually just shy.

"Cool. Um, how old are you?" Judging from his looks, he appeared to be a few years older than me.

"Just turned eighteen."

"I'm seventeen," I smiled, liking that we were almost the same age, "What's your favorite class in school?"

"English, you?"

"Probably history."

From the corner of my eye, I snuck a peek at him. He had short, brown hair with a tinge of red and his eyes were a vigorous, bright brown. There was a little stubble on his chin that made him appear older.

He was unquestionably very handsome.

Mars saw me staring at him and called me out, "What?"

"Nothing, just admiring the view."

Why did I just say that? My Gods, I was a lost cause.

I let him lead the way as we rounded the bend. The one thing to never do to an Aries was to stand in their way, which I tried to avoid. It was either their way or the highway.

"How'd you find my house anyways?"

"I called the oracles and got your address from them."

The sun was beginning to dip beneath the horizon, illuminating the sky with burnt golds and oranges.

"It's getting dark, we should go back." He suggested and I nodded.

Was there something wrong with me? Why didn't he like me?

Mars stopped walking, which forced me to stop, too.

Out of nowhere, he grabbed both sides of my face and pressed his lips to mine.

After everything I'd seen and heard about first kisses, I had expected my knees to go weak and my heart to jump out of my chest from beating so frantically.

But to me. . . it was just lips on lips. No sparks. No butterflies. That wasn't to say the kiss was bad, it was just after everything I'd heard from Sky, this was what the big deal was about?

He pulled away but kept his hands on my waist.

"Pretty forward, aren't you?" I blurted.

"I thought you Sagittarius liked that."

I didn't even know his favorite color and he was already kissing me. Except I shouldn't be surprised, many couples kissed on first dates.

Somehow, I expected my first kiss to be in a cute, vintage gazebo under a million string lights. Somewhere slow and romantic, not on the street in the middle of nowhere.

We walked back to my house in silence. One, because there was nothing really to talk about and two, because my mind was a tangled web of jumbled thoughts.

My house came into view and I was about to leave him but his grip on my arm tightened.

"Wait, before you go,"

"Yeah?" My heart lifted. Was he going to say something romantic?

"I'll be back on Friday."

Say something, say something!

"Okay."

And that was it. There was no goodbye hug or kiss as we parted ways.

When I opened the door to my house, my whole family was waiting for me in the kitchen. They started bombarding me with a wave of questions as soon as they saw me.

"What happened? Where did you go? How old is he? Where does he live?" Mom inquired while Dad had a bunch of questions of his own.

"What are his parents names? What grades does he get in school? What career is he aiming for?"

"Is he nice?" Remy added.

"Is he a good kisser?" Austyn smirked.

I sat down and all eyes were on me.

"We walked around the neighborhood and watched the sunset and stuff. He's eighteen and lives in Regulus Zeta, and I didn't get the exact details, Dad," I stuck my tongue out at Austyn to hide the smile on my face, "And yeah, he's a good kisser."

"Well, tell us more about him." Mom smiled encouragingly.

"He's. . ." How could I even begin to put him into words? "He's very mysterious."

I talked as fast as possible, suddenly feeling like I was suffocating.

"You've had a long day, get some sleep." Dad said when I was done.

Good idea, I was literally going to faint.

"But I wanna hear more!" Remy objected.

"She can tell you tomorrow," Mom said, "Goodnight, Char!"

"Nighty night!" I ran up the stairs and once I was in my room, I shut the door and sighed.

Today had been a crazy rollercoaster. First, I talked to the oracle. Second, they sent me a letter and matched me with an Aries. And third, he showed up to my house and he kissed me on the lips.

All on the same day.

I flopped onto my bed with my arms and legs dangling in the air. The more I thought about Mars, the more confused I got.

Was our relationship moving too fast?

Healthy couples communicate but he was so taciturn and guarded. Would he always be that way? Why didn't he talk to me?

And what was up with that kiss?

He was a good kisser though. It was obvious he had experience before, I was probably just another girl in a line of dozens. But there was a difference—the difference being that we were matched.

Maybe he would change, maybe I could change him.

I shut the lights and closed my eyes.

Until Friday. . .

It had only been a day since I met Mars but I was beginning to go crazy cooped up in my room. Thinking was very dangerous.

So I decided to take a personal day.

"I'm going hunting, I'll be back before dinner."

Mom nodded, "Be safe—"

"Yup, bye!"

With my quiver and favorite bow strapped behind my back, I shut the door and headed towards the woods.

Terebellum was comprised of all flat plains while the neighboring sector of Nashida was abundant with woods and wildlife.

My Sagittarius parents had three children but I was the only heir that was born under their sign. Thus, I was the lucky one to inherit the ancient bow that had been passed down to every first daughter on my mom's side. It was an excellent bow, sturdy yet light to hold, as well as fitting perfectly in my hands. With this bow, I never missed.

A ruffle in the bushes caught my attention and I twisted my body so that my arrow was aimed at the sudden movement.

I was about to release my arrow but a large, white bunny hopped out from its hiding spot and stared up at me with big, black eyes.

"Hi, little guy, aren't you a cutie?" I lowered my bow as the bunny licked its tiny paws.

Many people who weren't Sagittarius didn't understand why we hunted other beings. The Libra would argue that it disrupted the balance of nature, the Cancer would argue that it was inhumane, and the Pisces would argue that innocent animals shouldn't die of hideous wounds.

Everyone had their reasons but to us Sagittarius, hunting was in our blood. I tried to only kill animals that were already dying or too weak.

The bunny eyed my bow and I put my arrow back in my quiver.

"This bow is hundreds of years old, do you wanna see?" Why the hell was I talking to it?

The bunny sniffed my bow and I let the fluffball play with it.

Without a warning, it swiped my bow from my hands with its tiny teeth and started to hop away.

"Hey!" Curse me for letting my guard down.

I chased the fast-moving rabbit across the terrain and ignored the fact that this was totally ridiculous.

How the freaking hell was I going to explain myself?

Hey everybody, a bunny ran off with the priceless, centuries-old bow you trusted me with but it's okay, I can buy you a new one at the mall.

Yeah, that didn't sound plausible.

The bunny reached a cliff overlooking a river and had no choice but to hand over what was rightfully mine.

"Here, bunny, bunny, bunny," I cooed softly and edged closer, "I won't hurt you, you stupid animal."

The bow was feet away from me, I just had to reach out and grab it.

And I almost had it. . . but the stupid ball of fluff threw the bow into the river.

Of. Course.

My heart dropped as the bow fell into the water, sinking fast below the surface. I gave the bunny a death glare before jumping into the river without thinking.

I dove beneath the surface and easily spotted the bow on the serene, sandy floor. My fingers wrapped around the wood base and I pushed off the sand with my legs.

Water drowned my lungs as I fought the rushing waves. My limbs moved furiously as I tried to keep my head above water. The pressure crushed my chest and life drained from my soul.

I knew I should've learned how to swim.

Comment your sign!! I'm a Sagittarius ❤️
