Xiao Yan threw off Jane's hands and glared sharply and hatefully as Jane.
"Colonel Wallace, that joke is not funny at all."
"Angry?" Jane watched as Xiao Yan stood up, his eyes never leaving him.
"At this point neither of us feels like continuing the research." Xiao Yan's expression is cold.
He files and stores his research data closes the terminal and walks out of the research room.
"Where are we going for dinner?"
It doesn't matter where I eat, you are going to be there. That's the problem.
Xiao Yan didn't bother to answer Jane, he simply yelled internally in shock.
Why this guy? Why did you fall asleep?
Why did you have such an erotic dream?
Why when you woke up did Jane Wallace have to be standing right there?
Ah, he was there the whole time. He must have cramps from laughing so hard.
As they passed by the other labs, Xiao Yan sped up and attempted to shake Jane off, even though he knew the effort was futile
Ah forget it. No big deal, just let the guy have a good laugh at his life.
Just as they passed another research room, the siren suddenly pierced the air.
Xiao Yan's shoulders immediately tensed as memories of the last alarm washed into his mind. The stabbing pain in his abdomen runs like a current through his body and deep into his brain.
The researchers in the hallway begin to run with confused expressions
"Hurry up What did you do? How could you get the dose wrong?"
What?
What does it mean?
"Oh God No! It's running out!"
As Xio Yan stood paralyzed a large figure suddenly moved in front of him.
"Don't leave my side."
Jane Wallis.
The teasing tone was gone, his voice was cold and alert.
"What happened?" Jane grabbed the arm of one of the frantic researchers. He noticed his uniform and let an audible sigh of relief
"One of the zombies in the anatomy lab broke through its shackles."
"What?"
Suddenly keening sounds of panic resounded down the channel and several researchers ran from around the corner. The zombie's chin had partially fallen and flapped up and down as he ran, His bloodshot eyes seemed unfocused. His arms waved around wildly.
"Help! Help!"
"What are you guys doing?" Jane scowled, picked up Xiao Yan and entered an empty research room, neatly locked the door.
Other researchers pounded at the door and cried to let them in.
"Open the door! The zombies are coming! Open the door!" Jane crossed his arms and a sinister smiled spread his lips, the gesture halted at his eyes which were cruel and chilling.
Xiao Yan regained his senses.
"What are you doing! Let them in!"
"Why? This zombie is out of control because of their mistakes, so they should take responsibility." Jane said with a lazy expression. He was grinning and seemingly ready to enjoy the show. The more scared and panicked the researchers were, the happier Jane was.
The zombies were getting closer to the researchers and they were shivering with fear.
"For you, dealing with that zombie is a breeze!"
"So I should do it for them? Everyone has to reconcile for their own mistakes. Plus, the zombie's attack ability is compromised, they can take care of it without it getting too bloody. Xiao Yan ... you have to know how to appreciate the now. Everything may seem cruel, but it reminds you who you are—never put hope on others. This is not only the law of the battlefield, but also the law of the land."
Jane's tapped the glass on the door, torturing the researchers further.
"Colonel Wallace! You are a soldier!"
"Don't use my rank with my name as though that will change things. My duty is to protect you, not to protect everyone."
Xiao Yan gritted his teeth, his fingers reached to open the door when Jane stilled them.
"Xiao Yan, let's make a bet."
"How are you in the a mood to bet?"
Xiao Yan's gaze slammed against Jane's. Except Jane's eyes were not angry, he just lifted the edges of his lips in a disconcertingly jovial grin.
Open the door, but if you can't solve the problem on your own, you belong to me tonight. I will kiss you and I will hold and you will find that being with me is not as bad as you think it is."
"You're so predictable!"
"I want you, it's been a long time." Jane smiled, but his eyes were dark.
Some familiar feelings welled quietly. Xiao Yan could only hear his own breathing and heartbeat. Jane's fingers slowly lifted his collar and his knuckles swept over his neck, as if he were directly stroking the nerves. His intention was to pull him down into the abyss at the moment when he was vulnerable.
Clenching his teeth, Xiao Yan gripped Jane's hand and the world steadied.
"Don't try to seduce me Colonel. You are suppose to protect me, if you have any honor as a soldier you will stop."
"There is no conflict between protecting you and sleeping with you. How about you, do you want to bet on it?" Jane still doesn't give up his seduction as he flashes a charming smile.
By this point, Xiao Yan has completely calmed down.
His gaze scanned the laboratory and found that it was a condensing agent research center. Xiao Yan grinned coldly and said to Jane Wallis, "you will regret making this bet with me, Colonel."
Jane seemed to understand Xiao Yan's thoughts and said without hesitation, "This is not your research room. Your fingerprints and id clearance cannot access this lab's equipment."
Xiao Yan said nothing, he merely lifted the terminal connector and entered the system. His brain quickly melded and invaded the laboratory's system. The cabinet, storing experimental prototypes, immediately slid open. Xiao Yan rummaged through it and came out with a condensation gun. He approached the door. Before he entered the hall he yelled out.
"Get back!"
"Xiao Yan that gun in your hand hasn't been properly tested or debugged. You are going to hurt yourself." Jane's brow arched at his action, the joking tone in his voice has disappeared.
Conventional guns generate heat, such a mechanism is ineffective when dealing with zombies. The Central Academy of Sciences have multiple research projects focused on the development of cold weapons, beyond the typical bladed arms. The development of the weapon was not the problem, but resources needed for coolant were limited, making mass production impossible.
This lab is concerned with developing the most effective and efficient condensate gun. Just last week a new prototype was unveiled but the guns were found to have some very serious defects.
Colonel Wallace, perhaps to you we are nothing more than useless rookies who have never encountered the world outside a research room. Maybe we don't fight zombies outside, but this is our battlefield. Outside that door are my comrades. Would you leave your troops on the battlefield?"
"You are procrastinating." Jane shook his head helplessly.
"Well it's tough, but it has to be done so I have to do it. And I will find the best way to succeed."
Xiao Yan lifted his chin, his expression fearless. His fingers did not hesitate to press the button to the door. It slid open and he saw the researchers were scattered as the zombie attempted to orient itself in the hallway, the drugs obscuring its senses. Two researchers crawled through the open door into the condensing lab. The zombie heard the sound and rushed toward the doorway where Xiao stood.
As the zombie launched itself at him, Xiao Yan lifted the gun and pulled the trigger.
The condensate, projected outward from the muzzle of the gun, rammed through the forehead of the zombie. The sound of the air splitting pierced the hall and the head of the zombie immediately froze solid. The weight instantly splitting it off from the body and it crashed against the floor, fragmenting upon impact.
The hall fell quiet and the researchers carefully poked their heads out to confirm the zombie was indeed dead. Finally one researcher stepped out and verified the brain had been destroyed by the shot.
Everyone let out a collective sigh of relief.
Xiao Yan's fingers are still gripped around the gun and his arm begins to tremble. When the gun fired, it absorbed the surrounding head and Xiao's fingers were frozen to the device, a layer of frost was even forming on his lashes.
"Xiao Yan. It's okay! You can let go now."
The researchers did not notice Xiao Yan's abnormal stillness.
"Thank you, Xiao Yan!"
Researchers stepped forward to thank him, and grabbed his arm, only to find it was completely frozen.
"Oh No! Hurry up! Turn on hyperthermia equipment!"
Xiao Yan's lips trembled. Each cell in his body seemed to be frozen. His heart clenched and struggled to beat under the frosty weight.
The researcher's attempted to het Xiao's body in a horizontal position to lift him.
"He can't walk! It's spreading too fast!"
Xiao's breathing is becoming increasingly labored and his tightened exhalation are puffs of white vapor.
"Move aside!" A voice barked and Jane pushed past the researchers and lifted Xiao Yan, placing him inside the hyperthermia machine chamber.
Xiao's finger is still frozen to the condensation gun and the hyperthermia instrument requires calibration before it can begin a cycle. By that point, he will be completely frozen.
"Xiao Yan, don't refuse me this time."
Jane's voice pushed roughly into his ear.
what......
Jane's fingers lightly press on Xiao's lips and he leans forward. His warm humid breath sinks into his body, diffusing through his lips and past his teeth. He can feel his struggling cells plump with life and the icy bonds throughout his body break and melt, everything within him reanimates.
With one hand on Xiao's shoulder, Jane slowly slides his fingers down his arm and reaches where Xiao's clenched hand. He gently pushes the gun from his grip. It clatters loudly as it hits the ground, and Xiao Yan's heart begins to beat normally.
Jane's kiss continues even though Xiao has completely recovered. His kiss continues at the same angle and with the same amount of pressure and intensity, yet Jane doesn't seem bored at all.
After the researchers finish calibrating the hyperthermia device, they look at the scene before them and stare.
Xiao Yan clenched his fist as his reason rattles and strains against the erotic feelings welling up. His once cold blood now flows through in violent bursts and Jane's kiss slowly become more provocative. Every movement feels as though he is running his tongue directly along his bare nerves. Waves of pleasure crash over and through every cell in Xiao Yan's body.
Balling his fists, Xiao Yan leaned over Jane's back and bit down ruthlessly.
Jane frowned slightly and finally lifted himself up.
"Xiao, you're okay!"
The researchers gathered around.
Jane moved back slowly, Xiao Yan cannot see his expression.
After they confirmed that Xiao Yan's body was safe and sound, the researchers dispersed .
"Remember what you said, although it's tough, it had to be done,"
Xiao Yan stood up and left the chamber, he watched as Jane wrapped one arm around himself and leaned against the wall. His figure was shrouded in shadow and he couldn't make out the look on his face.
His voice was low and tortured, his words clipped in rough edges, the tone sounded like something dragged from the depths of hell. Xiao took a moment to respond.
"I'm strong. But I don't regret it."
"Why?"
"Practice is always better than theory." Xiao bent down and was about to reach for the gun on the floor, when Jane quickly grabbed his hand back.
"If you mess around and freeze yourself again, I will not kiss you. I will directly fuck you."
"The drawback was the excessive heat absorption, I figured that the cooling agent inside the gun had never been tested on a zombie.
"You always have a lot of imagination."
"Maybe I can turn them into reality."
"That may be why they sent me to protect you." Jane sighed in relief. "I now know why I want to get you in bed..".
"Because I refused you?" Xiao Yan grimaced, He really didn't like talking about this over and over again.
"The whole world has refused me. That means nothing." Jane snarled viciously. His demeanor shifted sharply then his charming self reemerged. He waved his hand gesturing to Xiao.
"Let's go get some dinner. Now that you have emptied your brain, it is time to fill your stomach and get some sleep. Them tomorrow you can continue your research."
If it wasn't because he refused him, then why? This question nagged at Xiao mind, but he quickly pressed it down. If Jane wanted to tell him then he would. Xiao doesn't intend on straining his mind thinking about meaningless things.
"Is it the Blue Tulip again?"
"The light is too dim there, I can't see your face clearly."
"Can I say no?" Xiao Yan wiped his mouth a bit worried. After consuming Heine's saliva he had such unrealistic fantasies and hallucinations. His mind was already a mess with those. Today he ingested quite a bit of Jane's. He really didn't want Jane to be the subject of such illusions.
"Can't."
Jane hooked an arm around Xiao's shoulder. After their previous intimacy, Xiao Yan didn't even dodge the gesture.
He felt an immediate sense of crisis explode through him. He really hated the x-virus.
"Don't. Stop worrying. You took care of the zombie. According to our bet, I won't make any advances tonight."
Xiao Yan raised his brows noticing that Jane's made sure to specify this was only for tonight. Then what about tomorrow night, and after that. How dangerous was it to be around this guy now that isn't fucking anybody?
This time Jane took him to a small discreet restaurant. There weren't an overwhelming amount of holograms decorating it, nor pretentious lighting and decor. It was a simple small restaurant reminiscent of the ones he had seen in old movies.
He looked over at Jane who gestured to him with a tilt of his chin.
" Come on. The owner insists on homemade dishes. It has a much more rich taste compared to those designed and balanced by the system."
"Doesn't seem like your style."
"And What's my style?"
" Glamour and glitz, the pursuit of ultimate luxury."
Jane's lips gently curved upward, "You told me to take very second seriously. Now, you can join me as I savor every moment."
The simplicity of his chosen moment was fascinating
