I woke up with a serious headache.
I looked around and noticed I was in a bed.
It wasn't my bed.
This isn't even my room.
I don't think there is a room in my house that looks like this.
Then everything that happened came flooding back.
I was told my mom was on the hospital
I was comforted in the hall by an unknown person
I left school early
All the reporters and paparazzi
Seeing my mom...in the hospital bed...
...
...Mom died yesterday...
I started sobbing
Moms gone. I don't have anyone now. She was my only reason to keep fighting. To stay alive. At least now I can die without hurting someone else.
My thoughts came back to wondering where I am.
I remember falling and hitting my head
That explains the headache
Wait...
A boy saved me yesterday
Who?
I got up from the bed and made my way to the bedroom door.
I opened it and quietly walked down the hall and down the stairs.
I smelt bacon and eggs.
I followed the smell into the kitchen where an aged woman was cooking while humming a song.
She looked up and noticed me. She smiled and motioned to a seat at the table.
I sat down and stayed silent.
Soon enough a young boy came into the kitchen.
"Well I guess the girl left. She's not in the room anymore. I hope she's okay, that was a serious hit she had" the young boy spoke with a southern accent. The woman just cleared her throat and motioned to me.
The boy looked at me, I just smiled and waved.
"I hope you two are hungry" the woman spoke before sitting bowls of food on the table.
"Sawyer get some plates and silverware out" a man spoke as he entered the room.
"Yes sir" sawyer replied as he jumped out of his chair and to the cabinet. He grabbed four plates and forks and sat them on the table.
He went to the cabinet again and grabbed some cups.
"Ma'am what would you like to drink?" He asked me
"Um... some water please"
"Coming right up" he smiled
The woman leaned over to the old man and whispered something.
"There ya go" sawyer said in his thick southern country boy accent as he placed a glass of ice water in front of me.
"Okay everyone, dig in" the woman said with a smile
We all started fixing our plates. I didn't get much food. I wasn't really hungry but I didn't want to seem rude and not eat the meal the woman fixed.
We were eating when someone finally spoke up
"So, dear, what's your name?" The woman asked
"My name is Cyryn. Cyryn Johnson"
"Well Cyryn, my name is Susan Days. This is my husband Jerry and this is our son Sawyer."
"Nice to meet you all" I said smiling
"Nice to meet you as well Cyryn" Jerry said returning the smile
"So Cyryn, Sawyer tells us he found you passed out on the sidewalk. What happened if you don't mind me asking?" Susan asked in a southern accent
"Um...my...mom...she uh..." I couldn't get anything out. "Please excuse me" I say getting up and going out of the kitchen.
I hear a faint "I'll be right back" followed by footsteps.
Susan wiped tears that had fallen and pulled me into a hug. I didn't even realize that comfort was what I needed right now. I don't know how to cope with a death of a family member. She's the only family I've really ever had. And she's gone.
"Dear, did you mom abuse you? Is that what you were trying to say?"
"No ma'am, she...was in a car accident...they took her to the hospital...she didn't make it. I saw her die." I say and burst into tears
She calms me down by stroking my back and humming a song
"I'm so sorry for bringing it up dear"
"It's okay. It felt good to talk about it. It felt like it helped to ease the pain."
"Want to go and finish your breakfast?" Susan asked
"Yes ma'am, it's delicious. Thank you for the meal and hospitality"
"Your welcome" she said with a soft laugh
She showed me the bathroom so I could clean up a little before I sat back down at the table.
When I was done cleaning up I headed towards the kitchen. I stopped when I heard people whispering.
"The poor thing lost her mother" Susan said
"Does she have anywhere to go?" Jerry asked
"I don't know but she's so shaken up about it" Susan stated
"Well she can't stay here."
"Dad!"
"Jerry! We are not going to kick her out! The girl just lost her mother and who knows if she has any other family. Show some humanity and hospitality please"
"Susan, we can't afford another mouth to feed. The farm isn't supporting us like it used to. We can barely manage as it is"
"I know that..." Susan replied defeated "...we should see if she has anywhere else to go"
"But mother..." Sawyer started
"Saw you know I'd do anything to help somebody but I have to put my family first. We'll see if she has anywhere to go, any friends, nearby family, someone. If not then we'll take her to a foster care facility."
"Ma, the foster care facilities are cruel. We can't send her there!" Sawyer shouted
"Sawyer! You will not talk back to your mother like that! Go do your chores!" Jerry yelled.
"Yes sir" Sawyer sighed
I went back towards the bathroom and made my way down the hall as if I just finished in the bathroom. Sawyer walked past the hall and saw me, he gave a slight smile that looked as if it were full of sympathy.
I entered the kitchen and took my place at the table again.
"Cyryn, do you have any other family that can take care of you?" Susan asked sweetly
"No ma'am, both of my parents were the only children in their families. And my grandparents died not too long ago but I didn't know them."
"do you have anywhere else you can stay?" Jerry asked
"Don't be so rude Jerry" Susan scolded him
"Sorry, I didn't mean it like that. We are kind of struggling here on our farm and it's getting harder to feed the family so we can't have another mouth to feed"
"I understand. I do have someone that I can stay with though."
"That's great!" Susan said happy that I have somebody
"Um...do you mind me asking where my phone is?"
"Sawyer picked you up last night so I would ask him. He should be out in the barn mucking stalls" Jerry said with a smile
"Okay, thank you both for letting me stay and for the meal. I'll pay you back soon"
"No worries dear, you don't have to repay us"
"Oh no I insist. It's hard to find people that take you into their family and treat you like their own until your better" I say and smile as I stand up and grab my plate
"Dear don't worry about the dishes, I can handle that." Susan said and stood up as well.
I headed outside and scanned the terrain for the barn.
It was a beautiful piece of land they had. Such a beautiful farm.
As soon as I spotted the barn I made my way to it.
I heard the shovel scrapping the ground.
I looked through the stall door and saw Sawyer. He stopped when he saw me.
"Hey Cyryn" he said
"Hey Sawyer"
"Do ya like the farm?"
"Yeah, it's beautiful. I've never seen anything like it" I said laughing a little
"Really?"
"Yeah"
"Well maybe you can visit sometime once everything goes back to normal"
"What do you mean 'normal'?"
"Well...Ma has been sick for a while. She's got cancer in her arm and shoulder. That's why we aren't in the best condition. Ma's medicine cost a lot. We've been paying for the treatments but they don't seem to be working. Pa is getting real worried and I am too, she's getting worse by the day..."
"Sawyer I'm so sorry...I hope everything gets better soon. I'm sorry for bringing it up" I say and walk up to hug him.
I hug him, he wraps his arms around me.
He gives great hugs.
I can feel the muscles in his biceps as he holds me.
We slowly let go of each other.
"You okay?" I ask him
"Yeah, thanks for the hug"
"Anytime Sawyer, anytime. That reminds me, thank you for helping me yesterday"
"What?"
"Thank you for getting me off the sidewalk when I fell and passed out"
"Oh yeah, no problem. I did what I thought was right. Did you find a place to stay?"
"Yeah, but I need my phone..."
"Oh yeah, it's in my truck. Come on we'll get it." We started walking towards his truck. "So where are you staying?"
"I'm staying with my best friend Corbyn. He's basically like my brother."
"Oh. Will I be able to see you again?"
"Of coarse"
"Good. Maybe one day you can come back and I'll show you around the farm."
"I'd like that"
Once we reached his truck he opened the door and grabbed my phone and handed it to me.
"Your bags are also in there, if you need them I can get them"
"No it's okay. I don't need them right now"
"Okay. Well I'm going to go back to the barn if you need me"
"Okay, thanks again Sawyer"
"No problem Cyryn"
God I love his accent
I quickly unlocked my phone and saw I had 367 missed phone calls and 274 text messages.
🙉Corbean🙉: 169 messages, 229 calls
🍉Daniboi🍉: 43 messages, 82 calls
Jonah🤐: 40 messages, 53 calls
Jack🤕: 15 messages, 2 calls
Zach😷: 7 messages, 1 call
Oh boy, Corbyn is flipping out
I should talk to him first.
I went to his messages and typed "I'm calling" and then went to his contact and called him.
(Corbyn, Cyryn)
Hello
He sounded like he was crying
Corbyn?
Cyryn? Is that you?!
Yeah, it is
Where are you?!? Why didn't you answer any of my texts or calls!? Why weren't you at school?!? Why did Jonah tell me you two hu-
Calm down, calm down. I'm at a farm right now. I didn't answer because I didn't have my phone. Yesterday mom was in a car accident and...she didn't make it. I saw her die Corbyn. I...I was so scared and upset...I didn't think before I ran off...I ran about 3 miles as fast as I could. My legs gave out and I tripped and hit my head. Luckily Sawyer helped me out, he brought me to his families farm so I was off the streets.
Sawyer? Are you talking about Sawyer Days?! The homeschool farm boy?!?
Yes, what's so bad about him. You should be happy. He helped me out when I needed help.
Cyryn, there's nothing wrong with him other than he is homeschooled and doesn't have any friends. He's antisocial.
I didn't have any friends either and you're still there for me
That's different
How is it different Corbyn?!?
Because you're like my sister
Corbyn, you gave me a chance. That's why we are friends. So give him a chance.
Fine. One chance.
And he does have a friend
Pff who
Me
...
I'll see ya later Corb. I need a place to stay, can I stay with you?
Of course you can
Thanks Corbs
No prob Cy. See ya soon
See ya
I'm just gonna ignore Jonah's messages and phone calls. Next is Dani.
I typed "I'm okay, already talked to Corbyn, don't worry" and sent it.
I got a reply instantly saying "thank god, don't ever do that again. Corbyn and I were both worried sick"
