Chapter 15 - Two Hearts

I rest my hands on my knees as I breathe heavily due to the lack of oxygen. Although, I didn't really mind because what was infront of me was worth it. It was a fifeteen minute walk from my house, but since I was sprinting, it took me less than ten minutes to get here.

I inhaled the surrounding around me as the sun glowed on my skin. The place was pretty crowded at this time of the day. The mothers are pushing the strollers, some families having a picnic and the others walk around with joy. As chatter fill my ear and the birds soaring around, I took a seat on the bench.

I promptly remembered why I came here. Why I wore my shoes. Why I filled my bottle with water. Why I slammed the door so hard.

To get away from all the problems.

I don't think so I'm avoiding my complicated tied strings, I'm just pausing the play button to think for a moment. To why I was so unlucky I didn't get to meet her. I wonder how she'd sound like if she was here to comfort me. But if she was here, would she team up with Dad and go against me?

You know what they say... "two are better than one".

A boomerang appeared, gliding towards my direction and without even thinking, I caught it before it sinks into the bushes behind me. I see a little girl with two pigtails stand shyly a few meters away from me. I can't help but think that she looks so oddly recognizable. But it was more like similar than familiar.

I walk up to a her with a smile on my face and crouch down to her level, her pink boomerang still in my hands.

"That was a really nice smooth throw. How did you learn to do that?" I ask as she blushes, making her face go red.

"My daddy taught me how to throw it." She says with her fingers tangled together.

My heart aches.

"Maybe you can show me some time later."

Her eyes lit up with excitement and she looked back, waving at I'm assuming her Dad who was on the other side sitting on the bench. He looked at his daughter and wave a hand, telling her to come back. He barely made eye contact with me as his lips formed into an unfriendly thin smile.

Before she said goodbye, I gently grabbed her tiny arm, "What's your name?"

"Lily. What's your name?" She cocks her head to the side.

"Pearl."

"Pearl... as in my pearl earrings?" Lily asks, pointing to her ear.

I couldn't help but laugh, a heavy weight lifting off my shoulders,"I guess you can say that."

A deep voice spoke behind Lily, making us look up.

"Lily let's go. We have to go now." His dad says, crossing his arms.

I gave Lily back her boomerang and she surprisingly told me that she wants to have a tea party with me one day when we meet again, and I couldn't help but agree.

~~~
As the skies got darker and the birds soaring away, I sat on the same spot as I watch the people walk away, leaving me behind. The lights then began to illuminate, filling in the darkness. I could hear the water gleaming as the lights reflects off, making the lake look shinier and bluer.
I sat there in silence, taking out my earphones from my pocket when all of a sudden a dark figure walked towards my way. I put my head down, pretending I was texting someone when he passed me. The park was pretty empty at this time since everybody is preparing for dinner and may I just ask, why is this guy out here alone? Is he gonna murder me?!
His back is now facing me as I watch him blend into the atmosphere since his jeans and t-shirt are black.
Out of the blue, he started to walk back and that sent me a shiver down my spine.
He is totally gonna kidnap me and murder me.
But yet that was only my imagination, trying to scare my to run away in fear.
I couldn't understand why my legs doesn't want to work, especially at this moment but he started to get closer and closer as I pretend to text faster, making me tap on the screen harshly.
Maybe I could just pretend that I'm deaf. That way it won't be rude to ignore him.
I heard him clear his throat, making me meet his dark eyes.
"You know it's kind of dangerous for you to sit out here alone, don't you think?" He says in a husky voice.
"I'm guessing you're here to trick me and make me fall into your trap and kidnap me?"
"You're damn right."
Holy.
And that's when I bolted off the bench and start sprinting faster than I could have imagined I ever could. If only I could sprint this fast in PE.
"Hey wait! I was just joking." He says, chuckling softly.
He marched towards me under the light I was standing on. As he got near me, I observed his sculpted face, although his lips stays in the shadow, making him look mysterious yet, dangerous.
