*Hits gong real hard*
Me: (Moonwalking away)
My POV:
Me, my team, except Tenka who's inside the our dorm room, Ruby, Weiss and Yang are making our way inside the ballroom. While walking I decided to walk closer to Ruby, about to ask her something.
Me: Ruby, there's... something I've been actually meaning to ask you about something.
Ruby tilts her head as she looks at me confusingly...
Ruby: What is it?
Me: This sounds kinda dumb, since we're going out and all, but do you want to... you know.. go to--"
Ruby suddenly giggles before I could even continue.
Ruby: You really are a dummy sometimes you know that? Of course I would love to go to the dance with you.
I was quite surprised at Ruby having to figure out what I wanted to say, but I was glad she accepted.
Ruby: Plus, there's no way I am going with anyone else
Me: I was... just making sure you weren't planning on going out with some another guy, or something, since I didn't really ask you about it.
Ruby: You're really unpredictable, Shadow. I like that about you....
She say this as she grabs and leans in my arms, making me smile affectionately at her.
Me: Glad to hear it.
The conversation had ended with a comfortable silence. Mitchell and Rachel looked behind to see what they were witnessing. They both giggled amongst themselves as they made heart gestures with their fingers, making me roll my eyes and Ruby blush in crimson red as her cloak. I suddenly leaned in Ruby's ears and whispered:
Me: You know, I can't wait to see you in a dress tomorrow.
Ruby's face instantly flares up as she hears this and breaks her hold from me.
Ruby: Wha--?! Wh-Wh-Where did that come from?!
I laughed at my girlfriend's priceless expression.
Me: I was just thinking about it. Because.... you know. I always see you in that combat skirt of yours, with your scythe behind your waist. So, it is kind of nice to see that you're acting like a.... Well, a normal girl.
Ruby: Hey, you're always in that trench coat and your doctor's coat of yours with your weapon strapped behind your back and your Driver in front, mind you. Plus, we are in a school to be trained on how to fight Grimm. So... You get what I mean.
Me: Haha... I guess so.
Before I could even know it, me and the others have finally arrived at the ballroom. Weiss, Mitchell, Rachel, Yang and I were decorating. I was thinking about what I am going to do about Pyrrha and Jaune as I decorated some part in the ballroom with icy intricates.
Tenka had confirmed my suspicions about Pyrrha liking Jaune by telling me last night, and I didn't know what to do or how to help them. Pyrrha likes Jaune, Jaune likes Weiss, and Weiss apparently has a date in-mind for the dance. It would be helpful if Jaune isn't so in love with Weiss. Despite her general iciness, I could see why Jaune likes Weiss so much. I don't like her that way, but she was pretty, gifted, and don't even get me started with her voice.
After finishing my part, I sat beside Ruby, who just sat glumly at the table, resting her head on her hand and staring into the distance before she's startled by someone slamming their palms on the table she's at.
Weiss: I need you to pick a tablecloth.
She slides two squares over to Ruby, both seeming to be similar shades of white, much to her partner's confusion.
Ruby: Aren't they both the same?
Weiss sighs in frustration at this.
Weiss: I don't even know why I asked!
Me: Hmmm....I'd say I go with the one on your left. It accents the colors of the ice decorations nicely.
Weiss: Thank you, Shadow.
With that, Weiss walks out of the scene as Yang comes in carrying a massive sound speaker on her shoulder, which bounces me and her sister and the table she's moping on again to jump in the air when she drops it on the ground. Yang brushed her hands as she approaches me and Ruby.
Yang: So, have you picked out a dress yet?
Ruby: What's the point? Who cares about the dance if Blake isn't going?
Me: What? I thought you said you would come to the dance with me.
Ruby: I want all my friends to come to the dance. Blake's not here helping. It means she's not coming to the dance.
Yang: Oh, don't worry; she's going.
Me: Really? Do you have a plan in mind to convince her to go?
Yang: Kinda~
Mitchell: You have a plan? Can I help? I wanna help Blake, too.
Me and Ruby looked at the two questioningly, but Yang was getting exasperated of what Weiss was doing.
Yang: Weiss! I thought we agreed: No doilies!
Weiss quickly walks up to Yang, pointing in her face.
Weiss: If I don't get doilies, you don't get fog machines!
Both girls were suddenly interrupted by the sound of doors opening.
Neptune: Your dance is gonna have fog machines?
Rachel: I don't know about them... but, Mitchell and I are just helping out.
Weiss: BUT, we were thinking about it...
Neptune: That's pretty cool.
Sun: You ladies all excited for dress-up?
Ruby: Pfft... Yeah, right!
Yang: Laugh all you want. I'll be turning heads tomorrow night!
Weiss: What are you two wearing?
Sun: Uuhhh... this?
Sun gestures to his current shirtless outfit, which Neptune steps up and holds a hand in front of his friend's face.
Neptune: Ignore him for he knows not what he says.
Me: He does have point, Sun. These kind of occasions require a bit more formal dressing, much less open shirts and shorts.
Sun knocks Netpune's hand away from his face before speaking.
Sun: Hey, I may have moved to Mistral, Shadow, but I grew up in Vacuo. It's not exactly a.... shirt-and-tie kind of place.
Yang begins mirroring Mitchell's, Ruby's and Weiss' looks of being told something extremely obvious.
Yang: Yeah, we noticed.
Me: Suit yourself. I already got mine anyways..
Ruby: What did you get?
Me: Well, we boy's will be wearing mostly black tuxedos, so I'll be picking that and a fancy black bow tie.
Ruby: That's nice. What about Tenka?
Mitchell walks up as he decided to join in on the conversation.
Mitchell: He said he'll be wearing a tuxedo, a white one.
Ruby: Uh... don't you think it will be... too bright?
Me: He'll be fine. He's Tenka. It's his thing. I'm guessing you're already sorted though, Ruby?
Ruby: Yeah. Well.... Yang forced me to get something else. She said she wanted for me to look more formal tonight.
Yang: You'll look cute, Ruby! And I bet Shadow will approve of it once he sees it tomorrow night.
Ruby blushes a bit and playfully hit Yang on the arm. I laughed at her bashfulness a bit as Sun rubs the back of his head nervously, preparing to ask the inevitable:
Sun: Soooo... what does Blake think of all this? She still being all, y'know... Blake-y?
Weiss: Obviously.
Weiss turns and crosses her arms in disapproval.
Ruby: I still can't think of a way to change her mind.
Mitchell: And neither could Tenka! This has been messing him a lot. And they're both suffering because of this.
Yang: Guys....
Me and everybody else look at her as she starts walking out of the ballroom.
Yang: Trust me; Blake will be at the dance tomorrow.
Me: Yeah, good luck with that. Hopefully you will help her change her mind.
I said as I stood up from my seat.
Me: Well, I guess I'll just see you guys tomorrow night at the dance. I'll just check on Tenka for a minute. And Sun, at least wear a tie. Trust me, you'll look great with it. I'd recommend a slightly unbuttoned black shirt with a white tie; that should suit your style, don't you think, Sun?
With that I left the ballroom and went to my dorm room to check on Sky.
----MEANWHILE----
Blake's POV:
I am sitting by myself at one of the library tables with a holographic screen in front of me, barely focusing on what I'm seeing in front ofme due to my sleep deprive... until a small, bright red light appears on the screen. Moving up and down, my eyes follow it down to my hand, then disappears entirely. I looked behind, obviously irritated, but no one walking among the tables is my culprit.
Turning back to the computer, I started typing on the beeping keyboard before the laser dot appears on my hand briefly, prompting me to look around again and still find no one. The red point shows up on the screen, moving around in circles until I scowled and pounded my fists on the table in irritation. I stood up from my chair and finds the light on the floor, following it blindly through shelves of books until both the dot and its pursuer turn the corner, only for me to bump, shocked and shaken out of my more "animal" instincts, into...
Yang: He-lloooo!
Yang greets in a sing-song voice, Waving with her left hand as her right hand holds the laser pointer.
Blake: What are you...?
Yang suddenly grabs my arm.
Yang: We need to talk.
And with that, amid my single cry of surprise, Yang whisks me out of the library to have a private talk.
----MEANWHILE----
3rd Person's POV:
Emerging from the steaming bathroom in nothing but a pink towel wrapped around his lower body, Ren sighs in contentedness and starts walking away, only to be stopped by Jaune suddenly appearing in front of him.
Jaune: We need to talk!
And with that, amid Ren's single cry of surprise, Jaune pulls his teammate away, leaving his bottle of "Samurai Shampoo" to spin in the air before dropping to the ground.
MEANWHILE......
Back to my POV:
I managed to convince Tenka to get out of the dorm room as we both waled our way on the hallways discussing about their matter.
Me: I'm just saying, Tenka. If you could just--
Tenka: Look, whatever you're planning, leave me out of this. I'm just giving Blake the space she needs. It's the only way of me helping.
Me: Well it's not exactly hel---
I was interrupted at what I was saying when Jaune suddenly appears in front of us.
Jaune: Can we guys talk for a sec?
And with that, amid me and Tenka's single cry of surprise, Jaune begins dragging us both towards their dorm room. Jaune forced us both to sit down near Ren, who was still in his towel. He gave us both a wave as we sat near him. Nora did too as she is seen sitting on her bed.
Jaune: Ren, Tenka, Shadow... I'm just gonna say it. You are all my best of friends. These past few months, I feel like we've really bonded, even though you don't say much, Ren. I mean, you're really quiet. Both you are Tenka and Ren anyway. To be perfectly honest, I don't know that much about you, personally. And Shadow, you're really unpredictable at times, but darnit, I consider you three to be the brothers I never had!
Tenka and I blinked. Jaune still did not notice Ren is still only wearing his towel and looking extremely uncomfortable, but we all still nod and smile to Jaune when he's done.
Ren/Tenka/Me: And so are you.
Ren Tries to be attentive from then on, but keeps glancing at his usual outfit hanging by the door.
Jaune: Which is why I wanted to get your advice on... girls.
Ren/Tenka/Me: Girls?
Tenka, Ren, and I sounded surprised at this, but Ren starts reaching out for his clothes while Jaune is looking away, trying to find the right words as he speaks.
Jaune: I just... don't know... how to... girls. Um, I-I guess what I'm asking is... Well, how did you and Nora... y'know...
Ren puts his hand down after almost touching the green robe, but looks even more awkward now.
Ren: Uh... uh... uh...
Nora clears her throat to get the boys' attention on her, wearing nothing but her emblazoned headphones, a "BOOP" t-shirt, and pink lightning bolt underwear as she reads a book resting on her knees, before she laughs nervously.
Nora: We're actually not "together-together..."
Jaune: NORA I SAID HEADPHONES ON!
Nora yelps as she does so quickly under her leader's demand. Jaune takes in a huge amount of air before speaking...
Jaune: How about you, Shadow? How did you and Ruby 'Got Together'
I slightly laughed at this.
Me: Well, I don't know. Like you said, I am unpredictable. I may be the first one to take the move, but she kept her feelings from me longer than I did. You can say luck was on my side when I confessed to her back at the docks... explanations on that later.
Jaune nodded understandably as he turns to Tenka this time.
Jaune: How about you, Tenka?
Tenka looks down as he sighs before answering.
Tenka: How should I know.... She took the first move before I even did!
Ren: Jaune, what is this all about?
He sighs deeply before speaking, obviously depressed by staring at the floor as he talks.
Jaune: It's Weiss. I'm completely head-over-heels for her, and she won't even give me a chance. She's cold, but she's also incredible. She's smart, and graceful, and talented. I mean, have you heard her sing? I-I just wish she's take me seriously, y'know? I wish I could tell her how I feel without messing it all up.
Pyrrha: Then do it.
Jaune looks up to see Pyrrha in the doorway, with Ren and Nora doing the same.
Jaune: Uh, what?
Pyrrha: Tell her exactly what you said. No ridiculous schemes, no pick-up lines. Just... be honest.
Jaune: But what if I-
Pyrrha: Jaune. You can't get it wrong if it's the truth.
Me: And most especially and the most importantly, you can't get it wrong if your words came from this.
I said, pointing at his chest, where his heart is.
Tenka: And not with this.
Tenka continued what I was saying, by pointing at Jaune's head, which I nodded in agreement. Jaune still looks down for a moment before he looks up with a new confidence.
Jaune: You're right. Thanks, Pyrrha! Good talk, Guys!
The three of us smiled and wave his thanks while Jaune closes the door.
Me: That went, well. Let's get going Tenka.
Tenka: Hmm? To where?
He asked confusingly before he closed the door. Upon doing so, Pyrrha becomes noticeably less cheerful as she walks over to her desk, with a concerned Nora watching her with sad eyes as she sighs.
Nora: Practice what you preach, Pyrrha.
----MEANWHILE----
Yang's POV:
I continued to drag Blake, who keeps trying to break free from my grasp, until we reach an empty classroom with an orange light shining at the central desk. I then released my grip on Blake, who begins to rub her arm.
Blake: What do you think you're doing?!
Suddenly Blake hears the door behind her slam. She looks back to see Mitchell with a mischievous smirk on his face. Mitchell's hand was on the door, implying that he shut it.
Blake: Mitchell, what are you- Wait a minute. You're with Yang on this?
Mitchell gives off a playful grin as he walks to me and Blake. I sat cross-legged on the central desk of the classroom they're in, orange light shining across my calm features.
Mitchell: Yup. When Yang said she had a plan for you, she told me what it was and I found out I can help.
Me: He would not stop begging, but he told me how he can help you.
Blake: (sigh) If you two are going to tell me to stop, you may as well save your breath.
Me: We don't want you to stop; We want you to slow down.
Blake continues to pace with arms crossed, still irritated about Mitchell's and my idea to convince her to slow down.
Blake: I don't have the luxury to slow down.
Me: It's not a luxury; it's a necessity.
Blake: The "necessity" is stopping Torchwick.
Me: And we're going to. But first you have to sit down and listen to what I have to say.
I pat the part of the desk across from her, which Blake looks away for a moment until she relents and drapes her legs over the desk's edge. Mitchell sits behind Yang with his legs draped over the desk's other edge.
Blake: Fine.
Me: Ruby and I grew up in Patch, an island off the coast of Vale. Our parents were Huntsmen. Our dad taught at Signal, and our mom took on missions around the kingdom. Her name was Summer Rose, and she was, like... Super-Mom: Baker of cookies and slayer of giant monsters. And then... one day she left for a mission and never came back.
I looked down as I said this, and Blake and Mitchell look sorry for me.
Me: It was tough. Ruby was really torn up, but... I think she was still too young to really get what was going on, y'know? And my dad just kind of... shut down. It wasn't long before I learned why. Summer wasn't the first love he lost; she was the second. The first... was my mom.
Blake and Mitchell look amazed at this information as I kept talking.
Me: He wouldn't tell me everything, but I learned that the two of them had been on a team together with Summer and Qrow, and that she'd left me with him right after I was born. No one had seen her since.
Blake: Why did she leave you?
I sighed, then turns to the chalkboard.
Me: That question... Why?
I got off the desk and walks to the chalkboard, picking up a piece of chalk.
Me: I didn't know an answer, but I was determined to find out. It was all I thought about. I would ask anyone I could about what they knew about her.
I start drawing on the board as I recall my past.
Me: Then, one day, I found something. What I thought was a clue that could lead me to answers, or maybe even my mother. I waited for Dad to leave the house, put Ruby in a wagon, and headed out. I must've walked for hours. I had cuts and bruises, I was totally exhausted, but I wasn't gonna let anything stop me. When we finally got there, I could barely stand, but I didn't care; I had made it. And then I saw them. Those burning red eyes... There we were: A toddler sleeping in the back of a wagon and a stupid girl too exhausted to even cry for help. We might as well have been served on a silver platter. But, as luck would have it, our uncle showed up just in time.
As I narrate, I finished drawing a clockwork eye.
Me: My stubbornness should've gotten us killed that night.
Blake: Yang... I'm sorry that happened to you, and I understand what you're trying to tell me, but this is different. I'm not a child, and this isn't just a search for answers! I can't just-
Mitchell: You're not getting it, Blake! It's n-
Blake: Mitchell... I know and I agree on what she is saying is right, but I'm not reckless! I'm not a child, and this isn't just a search for answers, I can't just--
Me: I told you: We're not telling you to stop! I haven't! To this day, I still want to know what happened to my mother and why she left me, but I will never let that search control me. Just like how Mitchell's goal shouldn't control him. We're going to find the answers we're looking for, Blake. But if we destroy ourselves in the process, what good are we?
Blake: You don't understand! I'm the only one who can do this!
3rd Person's POV:
???: No, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND, Blake!
Then suddenly, the door the classroom burst right open, revealing Tenka with a pissed off face, and Shadow standing behind him. Tenka then composes himself to calm down as he approaches the two girls slowly, leaving me leaning on the doorway with my arms crossed. Shadow and Tenka heard the two when we passed the room by and decided to listen in. When Tenka heard to the point of what Blake said, he snapped.
Tenka: Example, I'm Roman Torchwick, walking right through this door. What would you do, Blake?
Blake: I'd fight you!
Tenka laughs in humor.
Tenka: Really? Care to demonstrate?
Blake's eyes widens for a moment, but she'd had enough of this predicament. She lunges for Tenka, but he sidesteps effortlessly, his hands behind his back as he trips her. Tenka looks down at Blake after with a firm look.
Tenka: Hmph. Can you even really stop him with such hesitance? Can you?!
Blake: I can stop him!
She tiredly tries to attack her own lover, but he doesn't even budge.
Tenka: Oh, please. You can't even stop me! Your own boyfriend!
My POV:
I watched as Tenka pushed Blake at the last syllable, knocking her to land on the desk. I had to admit that was a bit harsh.
Mitchell: Stop! Please!
Me: TENKA KAITO!!! AS YOUR TEAM-LEADER, I ORDER YOU, STAND DOWN!!!!!
Tenka, still angry-eyed, slowly walks toward Blake as she gets up, her back still behind. She draws her fist back for a punch only to be confronted when Tenka does the unexpected and embraces her in a hug. This causes Mitchell and me to breath in relief.
Me: (Mutters) Thank Oum and thank the Legacy's decree (Taddle Legacy catchphrase i always say). I thought I was going to have to intervene.
Tenka: Yang and Mitchell are not asking you to stop, Blake. And neither am I. That's why I decided to leave you at your business. I may not support you all the time, but know that I am always by your side whenever you need me to, Blake. Just please, get some rest.
Tenka pulls back to look at his beloved girlfriend.
Tenka: Not just for you, or for me, but for all the people you care about and who care about you the most, Blake.
He steps away and starts walking past the startled Blake, who turns when she says over her shoulder.
Tenka: And if you feel like coming out tomorrow, I'll save my first dance to you, for my only girlfriend in the world, and most importantly, my student.
He winks down at Blake, and Blake stares at Tenka as he leaves the room with me before sighing heavily. Yang and Mitchell smile at the scene.
Yang: You're really lucky to have someone as understanding as Tenka, Blake. You should be grateful.
And with that, she pats Blake on the shoulder and leaves the room as well. Tealle then comes up to Blake.
Mitchell: Yang's right. You are lucky to have Tenka at your side. Especially since he's your boyfriend. So, be happy about today and stop worrying about tomorrow. Which reminds me on why he calls you a student. Well, we never know until we ask.
Mitchell smiles brightly. Blake makes a small smile in response.
Mitchell: Well, I gotta get ready! Bye Blake! Oh! Remember to smile for the dance!
Mitchell runs out the door with Yang. Blake sits back and thinks with a small smile on her face.
Blake: (thinks) Mitchell, I'm lucky to have someone very cheerful and innocent like you. I'm jealous of you. I wish I could be as positive as you and Ruby.
Not soon after, Blake follows.
---TIMESKIP---
3rd Person's POV:
Rachel: Good luck.
Jaune makes his way to Weiss as Rachel leaves to get ready. The white rose in Jaune's hand, Rachel herself had given, bounces up and down as its smiling owner walks through Beacon Academy until he stops at the entrance of a hallway with the sound of a certain voice, causing him to duck behind the columns outside.
Weiss: Neptune!
She walks past Jaune as he peeks around the corner and goes up to Neptune.
Neptune: Oh, uh, hey, what's up?
Weiss: I know this is a little unorthodox, but... I wanted to ask you something.
She puts her hands behind her back trying to look innocent as Jaune drops his smile and recoils at the oncoming words.
Weiss: Would you... like to accompany me to the dance tomorrow?
While Neptune rubs the back of his head and smiles with raised eyebrows, Jaune loses all of his confidence and drops the rose on the ground before walking back from where he came from.
---TIMESKIP---
Later that night for the ball,
My POV:
Sun: Curse this dumb death trap! It's trying to strangle me!
Tenka: You're tightening it too much, Sun.
Tenka helped Sun loosen his tie he had given him for the dance. The time of the dance was almost upon us and we decided to get ready with Sun, Tenka and Jaune in my dorm room. Tenka had put on his clothing and we both stayed around to help Jaune and Sun get into their respective attires. After helping Jaune with his clothes, I proceeded to tie my bow tie.
Sun: I still don't really get why people have wear these things?
Me: Truth to be told, Sun, not all people enjoy wearing open shirts and shorts in the middle of the night.
Sun: Who would tell you that?!
Me: My mom. My dad. And most importantly the doctors I'm working with.
After much fuss, Tenka had fixed Sun's tie enough to make him look a bit formal. Well, almost formal. I turned to Jaune who was still getting ready.
Me: By the way, Jaune have you asked someone out into the dance yet?
I asked him this as I looked him over the mirror I'm using to straighten out my tie. I saw him shake his head from side to side.
Jaune: No. Well, I tried asking Weiss out a couple of times, but you can guess It didn't go really well, Shadow.
I suddenly remembered that one time he tried serenading Weiss out to go with him for the dance.
Me: Haha.... Yeah, I noticed. But what about Pyrrha? Did you try asking her? She's a nice person after all. She also helped you out by training you, too.
Jaune stops nearly unfastens the straps on his shoes as he heard this.
Jaune: Wh-Wh-What?! Pssh. No way! You know Pyrrha. She would never go with someone like me.
I mentally face-palmed at Jaune's response. Throughout all my time in Beacon, I saw how Pyrrha had tried to get the attention of Jaune countless times, only for him to not even notice once. Once!
Tenka: (Mumbling) Geez. Just how dense can you even get?
Jaune: Huh?
Me: What Tenka is trying to say is that, have you ever think it's weird that Pyrrha's always trying to get your attention? How she's always the first to agree with you and compliments you all the time?
Jaune: Not really, that doesn't seem that weird to me
Tenka: Are you kidding me?! Jaune, she's head over heels for you!
Jaune: Now that's just ridiculous, Tenka! Nuh-uh. There is no way she thinks of me something like that. We're just friends, after all.
Me: Just keep telling yourself that, Jaune. You're gonna regret it in the end.
I walked out the dorm, still annoyed by Jaune's thickness. Although, I couldn't really say the same for myself, since Ruby had been my first girlfriend and I had been making up most of it as I went along with it. Tenka could say the same. I then walked out of the dorm room and agreed to just meet them at the dance. I began walking out towards the moonlit courtyard. I also noticed it had gotten quite dark. I was just a couple of meters away from the doors that would take me to the ball, when...
Ruby: Shadow!!!
I turned to my back to witness such a grand sight. Ruby was clumsily running towards me in a red corset dress, with a black belt, and black pumps. I didn't really know what to say in response as my jaw was about to literally reach the ground any minute now. Ruby blushed a bit as I continued to look at her in amazement.
Ruby: S-Stop it! You're staring too much, Shadow! It's embarrassing..
Me: What?! Wh-Who wouldn't stare at something they had never seen so very great?!
Ruby's face flared up a bit more than before, but smiled she at my compliment.
Ruby: T-Thanks. You're not bad yourself.
Me: I-I try. Anyway, I'm surprised to see you in such a very fancy dress.
Ruby: It's Yang's suggestion. I'm kinda dying from it, since it's so tight, I might pass out any minute now.
Me: That does tend to happen nearly all the time if you're wearing a corset. Yet, I can definitely say the same about those heels of yours since you seem like so close to falling over.
Ruby: Weiss told me to wear them. So, I--- Whoa!
As she tried walking towards my side, Ruby's legs almost gave way from the heels and she went tumbling forward.
Me: Ruby!
I caught her in the nick of time as I let her lean on my chest for support. Ruby looked up at me with a surprised yet incredibly cute look. The both of us instantly blushed at this, but neither of us didn't moved, and the two of us kept staring deep into each others eyes. I knew I had to stop eventually, but neither of us really wanted to move. I gained my senses back as I cleared my throat, and helped Ruby back up to her feet.
Me: W-W-We should probably get going. Don't want to miss the party, right?
Ruby: Y-Yeah.
Ruby nodded at my inquiry. With that we both began walking towards the dance hall, but I had to support Ruby along the way as she kept on tripping on her heels almost all the time, much to my amusement. The slow classical music inside became louder as we both approached. We walked through the open doors and saw all the students dancing and talking. We were then greeted by Yang who was standing behind a podium, wearing a snow white dress.
Yang: Hey, you two! How's it going?
Me: Very Good! Huh, no yellow dress tonight or something?
Yang: Yeah. Well, I might as well thought I'd try something new. What do you think?
She represents as she gives her dress a twirl.
Me: I-It Looks good, Yang. It suits you.
Yang gave you a cheshire grin with a hint of a flirtatious look in them.
Yang: Really?~
My entire face immediately turned bright red as she said this, much to Ruby's annoyance.
Ruby: Yang!!!
Ruby began dragging me away from Yang as far as possible, much to her sister's amusement. When I had my fair share amount of distance away from Yang, I noticed it just now that we both were in the middle of the dance hall.
Ruby: So, now what?
I then answered her question in the most obvious way as I held my hand out, gracefully.
Me: We dance, my rose!
Ruby: Yeah, well... uhm, about that. I-I don't really know how....
Me: Well, you know what they say, 'Experience is the Best Teacher!'
I suddenly pulled her towards me, much to her surprise, and caught her in my arms.
Me: Now, gently rest your one hand on my shoulder, and put the other in my other hand.
I helped position her hands as I said and I then placed my open hand on her waist, making Ruby's cheeks fire up.
Me: Don't worry, Ruby. We'll just take it nice and easy, and do it as how I do it, slowly.
I then began dancing to the rhythm of the song that was being played, surprising Ruby again who was not exactly ready.
Me: Just try following the beat of the song and do what comes natural, Rubes. Before you know it, you're already dancing to the rhythem!
Ruby then began doing as I said and seemed to be doing quite well. for a beginner. Just as I thought she had got the hang of it, Ruby moved wrong and stood on my foot, forcing me to let out a small grunt in pain.
Ruby: S-Sorry!
Me: D-Don't worry about it. It's quite normal for a beginner to get a few things wrong. But.... You can just make it up to me later~
I gave Ruby a wink after saying this and her whole face went bright red. I chortled at her reaction as I tried to hold back my laughter. She slapped me on the shoulder playfully to show her annoyance of my teasing.
Ruby: Shadow!!!
Me: Haha. I'm kidding, Ruby, I'm kidding.
Me and Ruby kept dancing to the song and Ruby gradually improved more and more with only a few mistakes from here and there.
Ruby: Shadow, just.... How are you so good at this?
Me: Well, my sister happened to be a good dancer so..... Yeah, my sister was a good dance teacher. Man.... I used to be garbage when it comes to dancing but, wjem my sister offered to help, I accepted the offer. And here we are today, following her path to where she left off.
Ruby: Wait, you have a sister?
Me: Yeah. Perhaps I've forgotten to mention that. She's currently studying at Mistral. (Sighs) if only we can come here together... and if only I spent more time... with her....
Ruby: Shadow, it's okay. As long as your sister is fine, nothing's going to happen to her. She will be okay at Mistral, Shadow.
Me: Yeah. She'll be fine. Thanks, Rubes.
Ruby: Anytime. (Smiles)
I then spotted Yang, Jaune, Ren, and Neptune who all gave me smiles and thumbs up in approval of my dancing. The song ended shortly after, and Ruby and I stepped off of the dance floor.
Me: So? That wasn't so hard now, was it?
Ruby nodded in approval, and gave me a smile before she replied.
Ruby: Thank you so much Shadow. That was really fun.
Me: Your always welcome, Rubes. Just... try not to step on my feet next time, please?
I asked as I reached my soles in pain. Ruby giggled a bit and nodded once again. Meanwhile outside, Sun is seen walking around and wearing a new black jacket with a white tie hung around his neck, which he proceeds to fight with before going inside.
Sun's POV:
Me: Stupid... dumb... neck trap!
???: Shadow was right, you really do look better in a tie.
I stopped struggling and stares at the dark blue-green colored dress, with a sweetheart illusion lace bodice and sexy open back keyhole, and a bright blue headband worn by Rachel, with Mitchell beside her, wearing a maroon black, exquisite suit. They both stepped forward as Mitchell lets Rachel take him by the arm.
Mitchell: Now you two have a good night with each other, okay? And I'm watching you, monkey boy.
He warns me as he points a V-sign finger first at his own eyes, then at mine. I nodded rather vigorously, before Rachel left them.
Me: Sooo, does this mean we're going... together?
Rachel: I-I guess so, but I promise to give Mitchell my first dance to make sure.
Me: She really is protective, huh?
My POV:
Inside the ballroom, streamers are hung through icy glass chandeliers, made by me, pink and blue balloons are everywhere, and students in dark suits and bright dresses are stepping with each other to the music between the white-clothed tables. Rachel is spun around by Mitchell before they curtsy to one another, and Sun comes up and takes his date's hands as Mitchell gestures for him to do so, but not before warning him. Mitchell goes to hang with me, Yang, Ruby and Weiss, who was in a similar white dress as Yang's, in the back of the room. We all watched as Tenka took Blake's hand and took her on the dance floor and proceed to dance as well as Blake laughs and enjoys herself before smiling at me and the others.
Yang: Tenka sure knows what he was doing.
Mitchell: They really are perfect for each other.
Weiss: Mission accomplished.
Ruby: Soooo, what do we do now?
Yang: Just have fun!
She proceeds to walk away and do so, with Weiss going the opposite direction and leaving Ruby behind.
Me: Let me just get us some drinks. Be right back in a second!
With that, I began walking off towards the punch bowl, as I heard Ruby say something about changing back to her original clothing. When I got there, I got out two cups and filled them both up.
???: Enjoying yourself, Shadow?
I turned towards the voice and saw Professor Ozpin walking right next to me.
Me: Who wouldn't? It is a party, after all. And it is nice to take a break from fighting once in a while.
Ozpin: Why not tell that to Ms. Rose? Seems like she wants to spend her life on the battlefield, even though it's not exactly needed.
Ozpin and I laughed at the fact that he was actually right.
Me: Heh, never really seen you smile this much before.
Ozpin: I suppose I have acted quite formidable as of late ever since I became the Headmaster of Beacon, Shadow. But, this is a nice change from training children to fight monsters.
I lowered my head as I looked down in sadness.
Me: But it doesn't exactly last long now, does it?
Ozpin turned to me and saw the saddened look on my face.
Ozpin: That may be true indeed. But, if you think about it, Shadow, fighting and dancing aren't so different. Two partners interlocked, although one wrong move on the ballroom merely leads to a swollen foot.
Me: Or a twisted ankle?
Ozpin: It's not every day that friends are able to come together like this, Shadow. Time has a way of testing our bonds, whether they are friends...
Then, he looks at me.
Ozpin: ....or family. But nights like these that can help keep them stronger than ever, Shadow. Nights like these are the ones we'll never forget. Have a good night, Shadow.
I smile at the words of wisdom as I watch him leave, but I turned my head at the sound of the doors opening. Yang is back behind the podium, and smiles at the new arrivals.
Yang: You guys are just in time!
Mercury: Wouldn't miss it for the world.
