Hello, Eleanor. I kind of can't believe it's over, to be honest, I don't know what to do with my time now.
You could write another album. Just a thought. Also, I'll be there, and I'm very annoying, so you'll definitely have your hands full.

THE FAMILY VISIT
For the whole plane flight, Ellie had been tossing and turning, trying in vain to get any sort of rest. Her nerves definitely hadn't calmed down since then. As a matter of fact, the closer they got to Holmes Chapel, the more stressed out Ellie became. She knew they would hate her. Why was she even doing this in the first place?
Harry. He was why. She had to take a deep breath and get through whatever was going to happen, because if they'd gone through so much to get back together, she wasn't going to let them fall apart again. Especially not over something as stupid as her fear of Harry's family.
Every time he noticed her leg bouncing up and down, or her biting her nails, Harry would grab her hand and squeeze it slightly. A silent show of solidarity. As much as Ellie didn't want to do this, she knew it was something that she had to do, to clear the air. Otherwise, everything would spiral and end with harry and her breaking up again, and she really, really didn't want that.
Only when the car stopped did the emotions that she'd been fighting so hard to control come crashing back down on her. Internally fighting with herself, Ellie took some deep breaths, and followed Harry out of the car. Even though she knew he was trying to hide it for her sake, he was obviously happy to be home. His face had lit up and he was bouncing on the balls of his feet. Ellie smiled fondly at the sight - it was like he was a little kid.
Ellie let herself look up at the house. She was scared, sure, but she couldn't help but remember how good it had been when she was last visiting this house. That was over a year ago now, which was something Ellie couldn't quite process. Maybe time flies when you're not having fun as well.
Slowly, Ellie and Harry made their way up the path to the door.
"They'll still love you, I promise," Harry whispered to her as he pulled her into his side, "If they don't, I can beat them up for you, okay?" Ellie chuckled at that.
"Ouch," she said, smiling up at him, "I'll be sure to tell your mum that. I'm sure it'll get me on her good side." He laughed with her now. She still wasn't used to how nice it felt to hear that sound again. "So, Harry, are you going to ring the doorbell, or are we just going to stand here?" He blushed and smiled sheepishly, before walking over to press the button. A faint shout of 'coming!' came from inside the house. Damn. Up until now, Ellie had been entertaining a fantasy of no one being home.
The door swung open, revealing Anne standing there, a ridiculously wide smile that almost matched her son's on her face. Silently, she opened her arms, and Harry hugged her. Ellie just stood there awkwardly, but she was appreciating the cute moment. She could see what looked like tears in Anne's eyes. Slowly but surely, Anne relinquished Harry from her hold on him, and turned to face Ellie. This was it.
Harry moved back to her side and put an arm around her, squeezing slightly. She smiled up at him in a silent show of thanks.
"Hi." Her voice sounded ridiculously small and afraid. She was scanning Anne's face for any trace of emotion - anger, sadness, betrayal, anything at all - but she couldn't really see much.
"Oh, who am I kidding," Anne muttered to herself, before opening her arms again for Ellie, "Come here." Ellie gladly hugged her, still not quite believing what was happening. She'd expected a whole lot more anger, and a whole lot less hugging.
She didn't really notice that she was crying.
"I'm sorry," she hiccuped out, "I'm so, so sorry." Anne just held her, and let her cry her guilt out into her shoulder. Ellie really couldn't express her gratitude.
Eventually, when Ellie's tears had dried up, Anne let her go and Ellie smiled, a bit embarrassed. What would Anne think of her now? She was practically a baby - getting her emotions out by crying instead of actually using words. Looking into Anne's eyes, she still couldn't decipher any of her emotions. She could see pity, but other than that, absolutely nothing.
"Do you want some tea?" Anne was speaking very softly, as if she was afraid she'd hurt Ellie's feelings, and Ellie appreciated the gesture, nodding wordlessly. Ellie and Harry trailed behind Anne into the house.
"See, that wasn't so bad," Harry said, smiling at her, "I told you you'd be fine." Ellie arched an eyebrow.
"Okay, we haven't even got to the interrogation stage yet." She held up a finger before he even opened his mouth. "You already know it'll happen, H. Two, Gemma still isn't home, and we both know she'll rip me limb from limb, basically." Harry almost laughed but caught himself.
"Yeah, that's fair enough," he said, smiling slightly, "She might not actually murder you, though. We can always be hopeful!"
"I admire your optimism." Ellie leant onto Harry's shoulder, resting her head, and allowed herself to breathe easy for a second as they walked into the kitchen, trailing Anne.
"Hey mum, where's Gemma?" Ellie heard Anne's sharp intake of breath. Well, this wasn't going to be good.
"She didn't want to be here," Anne said, turning to face away from them, "Not for the first few days, at least." Ellie practically felt Harry's change in mood. It was in line with her own.
"Oh." He sounded so sad and Ellie just wanted to hold him and protect him from everything that could possibly be wrong, but she knew she couldn't. Not when she was what was wrong.
"Is it because of me?" Ellie wanted to know - no, she needed to know - because otherwise she'd blame herself either way and it was much easier to do so when you knew you were actually to blame. She could tell Anne was having a hard time answering the question, but then again, that kind of answered the question in itself. "It's okay, if it is because of me. I kind of expected that, after everything that happened. I don't really deserve to be here, do I?" She chuckled dryly, without humour. Harry moved closer to her, trying to comfort her.
"Ellie..." She could hear the concern in Anne's words, practically see the cogs turning in her brain as she tried to word what she wanted to say the right way. "I think you do deserve to be here. At the end of the day, it's not my choice, and it's not Gemma's choice, it's Harry's choice. And if he chose you, then you do deserve to be here, because I know my son well enough to trust him. And not to mention, I trust you. At least, I hope I can. I trust that you won't hurt him again." Ellie shook her head violently. She would never! She'd done that enough times to know she never wanted to again.
"Mum, you're talking about me as if I'm not literally right here." Harry sounded indignant, but also slightly relieved. Just the same as Ellie. Anne just ignored him, and smiled softly at Ellie. Ellie honestly couldn't say how relieved she was.
"Still, Anne, I'm incredibly sorry for everything that happened. I know you'll end up saying it's fine, but otherwise I'm just going to be holding in my own guilt." Anne nodded solemnly. "I was upset, and not in my right mind, and I hurt Harry, and I'm never going to stop apologising about that, because I never should have done it. And the fact that I did it twice? I didn't see how good I had it, and over the last year, I realised just how much I messed up, and i thought I'd never get to right my wrongs, and now here I am, and Harry has somehow been amazing enough to give me another chance, and I have to apologise because otherwise my guilt will keep eating away at me forever." Ellie stopped to take a breath, and to wipe away the single tear which had been making its way down her cheek for the entirety of her little speech. Damn, she cried a lot.
Ellie looked up at Harry, trying to portray just how truly sorry she was with just a look, only to find he was already looking down at her, his eyes just as (if not more) emotional as hers likely were.
"Ellie, if Harry's willing to give you another chance, then so am I. Trust me." Anne gave her a comforting smile.
"Thank you, Anne," Ellie breathed out softly, "I genuinely expected to be murdered." Anne laughed.
"No, that's not really my style," she said, smiling, "Maybe Gemma will live up to your expectations." Ellie smiled slightly, but internally she was absolutely freaking out. How would Gemma react to her being here? Obviously she wouldn't be happy, but would it be 'tear-Ellie-limb-from-limb' anger or 'subtle-death-stares' anger? Ellie had no idea, and she figured that was what scared her - not knowing what would happen next. "Anyway, tea's ready. We can go sit down, and catch up on what we've all been doing. Harry, I expect tour stories." She looked accusingly at Harry, and Ellie chuckled. She could get used to this.

THE SISTER COMES HOME
Today was the day, and Ellie's nerves would not go away no matter how much tea she drank (currently, eight cups). Gemma was coming home, and her heart was beating a mile a minute. Harry had been there, of course, but he was less nervous about the Gemma thing and more excited to see his sister again, so he wasn't helping much.
Anne was, though.
Since Ellie had gotten there, Anne had been trying her best to make her feel at home by showering her with tea and food at every opportunity. If she didn't get out of this house soon, she'd have to roll out of it (that wouldn't exactly be a bad thing, though).
Gemma was set to arrive some time around noon, and time was passing a lot quicker than usual. Ellie was convinced the universe hated her at this point (though maybe not that much, she'd landed Harry after all).
Slowly and slowly the minutes ticked forwards, Ellie's heart rate rising with each one of them. She tried to breathe, tried to tell herself it was fine, but that didn't stop her heart from practically beating out of her chest when the doorbell rang.
Bloody brilliant. Could Gemma smell fear? Hopefully not.
She heard the creak of Anne opening the door. She heard the wheels of a suitcase being rolled into the hallway. She heard the hushed tones of the conversation between Gemma and Anne, presumably Anne explaining everything that happened over the past few days. She heard Harry coming down the stairs in his typical rushed fashion to greet his sister, and then she heard all that noise make its way into her room. Great.
Slowly, Ellie stood up and turned around. Gemma was standing there, and so was Harry, and so was Anne. Harry shot her a small smile.
"Hi, Gemma." Ellie wished her voice hadn't cracked as much as it did just then.
"Ellie." Gemma's voice was cold. Had Ellie really expected any better? Some part of her had entertained the fantasy of Gemma still being her friend, but oh well. Guess that settled it, then. "Harry, can I talk to you for a second?" Gemma turned to face her brother, quirking up an eyebrow expectantly. Harry glanced between Gemma and Ellie, as if he was torn between the two of them, but Ellie gave him a small nod. She was his sister, after all. He smiled gratefully at her.
"Sure, Gem." At least Harry's voice sounded just as strained as Ellie's, if not more so. Without further ado, Gemma grabbed Harry's hand and pulled him off to who-knows-where. Ellie tried not to think about what they would be 'discussing'. Anne gave her a sympathetic smile, before sitting down with her in the living room.
"She'll come round eventually, love. She's just a bit cautious, that's all." Ellie nodded, still looking at her own feet. "Are you okay?" Ellie nodded again, although she was a little bit less sure of that particular answer.
"There's just- well, it sounds stupid." Ellie said, winding her fingers together and fiddling with them. Anne scoffed.
"Ellie, we've all said our fair share of stupid things. Harry thought he wouldn't get past the X-Factor auditions, and look at him now!" Ellie chuckled at that.
"It's just that there's a part of me that's really afraid. I know Gemma isn't exactly the biggest fan of mine. I'm just afraid she'll say something to Harry, and he'll realise I'm not the one for him, and the tiny bit of happiness I've actually got might go away after all this." Damn. Voicing her fears felt really, really good. Even if she spoke really fast, at least it was out there.
"Sweetheart, that won't happen, I promise. Gemma cares about Harry. If he's happy with you, she's going to have to find some way to put up with it, because clearly he's not going to break up with you. They're both as stubborn as each other." Ellie heard Anne's fondness for her children in her voice. It warmed her heart, honestly, and comforted her at least a little bit. "Besides, Gemma's just afraid, like you. She won't let it show, but I think she's afraid to see Harry as hurt as he was last time again. She doesn't want that. But if you tell her it won't happen again, there's easily a chance that she can forgive you. Neither of them are very good at holding grudges." There was a small pain in her heart when Anne reminded her of how hurt Harry had been.
Then again, if he had never been hurt by her, they probably wouldn't be where they were. Maybe good things do come from bad things sometimes.
While Ellie was still thinking, mulling things over, a comfortable silence formed between her and Anne. She couldn't hear any of Harry and Gemma's conversation, which she was grateful for. Before long, she heard the shutting of a door somewhere within the house (she still didn't quite know her way around).
This was it, she supposed.
Harry walked in, Gemma filing in behind him. To Ellie's surprise, she gave her a small smile. Well that was new. Harry sat down next to Ellie, and in one movement laid his legs over her lap, expelling all the air from her lungs.
"Get off me, you oaf!" Ellie hit his legs repeatedly, but she didn't seem to be doing very much damage. Shame. He was just laughing at her struggle, until eventually (when she realised he wouldn't be moving) she relented and smiled sheepishly at Gemma and Anne. Gemma opened her mouth to speak, but Ellie cut her off. "Before you say anything, Gemma, i want to say I'm sorry. I know how much I hurt your family and trust me, I feel insanely guilty for everything that happened. I know you might not like me anymore, and that I messed everything up, but I'm ready for this relationship now. I'm not going to break your brother's heart again, trust me. He might be incredibly annoying when he refuses to get his legs off me but I love him, and I don't want to hurt him again." She glared at Harry slightly in that part, but her eyes soon softened when she realised just how lovingly he was looking at her.
"Ellie, you make my brother happy. I understand that. It's not like he'd let me have a say in anything anyway, would you, Harold?" Harry just shrugged. "Exactly. I think we both just need some time, yeah? I want to trust you again, Ellie, I do, but it's going to take time, and i know where you're coming from with the whole 'ready for a relationship thing'. Although, I swear to god, if I have to mend my brother's heart one last time I will actually kill you. You're lucky he talked me down from the worst of my anger." Ellie didn't doubt that. Harry was pretty good at calming people down. She nodded.
"I agree. We need time. Honestly, I'll give you all the time in the world as long as you don't kill me. I'm too young to die." Ellie smiled slightly at Gemma, and she smiled back. Baby steps.
"And too beautiful." Harry winked at her, and she swatted at his shoulder with her hand, rolling her eyes and blushing. This idiot.
All Ellie knew was that she was willing to wait quite a while for things to be okay again, because as long as she had Harry, how bad were they really?

i was wondering if you guys could do one thing for me

it would just mean a lot to me to see how many people this book has actually reached, up to its last chapter (i thought it would be cool to try but even if you don't leave a comment i love u anyway and i see you there and know you read this lil book, so thank you x)
