Chapter 9...
Cree POV
Its been a couple of weeks since I moved out here, and I've learned to like it. The people that I have become friends with are making it easy to enjoy it here. I haven't spoken to my mom since I left and my mind is weighing heavy on her, I'm gonna give her a call as soon as I can.
Right now I'm on my way to Nika's house with Tati. We're just gonna chill and stuff hang out the usual things teens do.
We walked up the porch after my aunt dropped us off, I knocked on the door and waited for someone to answer it. A few seconds later a woman answered the door that didn't look a day over fifty. She looked past me and said hi to Tati then looked back at me giving me this funny look like she was trying to figure out who I was.
"Um, hi I'm Cree." I said shyly.
"Oh, I'm sorry sweetie, you just look so familiar." She said through squinted eyes. She moved aside and let us in. "Y'all can sit in the living room, I'll go get Nika." She said before disappearing down the hallway.
A few minutes later Nika came out from down the hallway, smiling at her phone. "Hey y'all." She said glancing up from phone quickly.
"Hey." Tati and I said together.
"Who you textin'?" Tati asked.
"Qu- Quincy, a friend of mine named Quincy." She managed to get out nervously.
"Mhmm." I said looking at her with a raised eyebrow.
"How come I never met this Quincy?" Tati asked.
"Because he doesn't live here." Nika said.
"Then where does he live?"
"Florida." Nika said quickly.
"Florida? You talkin' to somebody out in Florida, when you have these fine men right here in the ATL?"
"Yea, so?"
"Oh nothing I just find it a little weird." Tati said.
"I don't, come on I have a movies and stuff setup downstairs." Nika said.
We all walked down to the basement and it was setup nicely. There was a projector screen on the wall. There was a big brown fluffy couch going along the opposite wall.
We all sat on the couch as Nika turned on the projector. She clicked on the Netflix app and multiple movies popped up.
"What y'all wanna watch."
"Can we watch Freedom Writers please?" I asked.
"Oh I love that movie." Nika said.
"That's cool with me." Tati said.

When we got halfway through the movie Tati's phone started ringing. We paused the movie as she answered it.
"Hello...over Nika house....why mom, I just got here and I haven't even been here for an hour...oh my God why can't you bring him here....alright mom whatever." She said then hung up.
"What happened?" Nika asked.
"My mom talm' bout I have to come home, when she said I can come over here." She said in a heavy southern accent.
"Go home to do what?"
"I have to watch Malakai."
"His bad ass." Nika said.
"I know, he don't never listen to me. Anyway she on her way over here now to come pick me up." She said getting off the couch.
"I'll walk you out." Nika said as she got off the couch.
When they got upstairs I took this time to call Terrel.
"Hello?"
"Rel!"
"Yo, sis wassup, how's Georgia?"
"Good, I'm getting used to it."
"Good so have you been hearin' anything about Ace and what he up to about finding you?"
"Nah, I haven't heard anything, and I wanna keep it that way and lay low. Have you been checkin' up on my mom for me?"
"Yea everyday I stop by, and she keep sayin', 'boy why you checkin' on me I'm grown'." He said mocking my mothers voice.
"But I know you not gonna stop."
"Damn right, that's my second mom." He said chuckling.
"I know, so how's momma West and Nani?"
"They good, Nani miss you like crazy though, she keep askin' about you."
"Aww I miss her too. How's Aria and my god baby?" I asked as Nika came in the room.
"They doin' real good, we just went to an appointment today."
"Oh okay that's good."
"Yea, and next month we find out the sex of the baby and I'm so happy but I'm so scared."
"Why are you scared?"
"Well first I'm happy about the baby, but I'm scared about how my lifestyle will effect all of this you know. Like I wanna be there every step of the way and watch my baby grow, I don't wanna be in this game missing important things like his or her first step and shit. And I don't want them to grow up and be like daddy's a drug dealer. I just wanna have enough money before I get out of the game you know."
"Yea I get it. But you gotta understand, that as long as you set a good example and be there for him or her, they won't look at you like a drug dealer or a bad person. As long as you treat him or her right, you'll be the best man that they know, and regardless of what you do they will look up to you and love you no matter what."
"You right sis, I'm just stressin' myself out."
"You'll be fine trust, well I gotta go, tell Aria I said hi."
"Aight I will, be safe." He said
"Always, you be safe too." I said.
"Always." He said then we hung up.
"Who was that?" Nika asked
"My friend Terrel."
"Oh, Quay and Malik cousin?"
"Yea him."
"Well my mom made dinner, and she wants us to come up now."
"That lady that answered the door was your mom?"
"Yea why?"
"I mean not to be rude, but she looks a little older."
"I know, a lot of people mistake her for my grandma but its whatever, I think she actually looks young for her age."
"Well how old is she, if you don't mind me askin'?"
"Sixty, but I tell people that she is fifty." She said with a smile.
"Oh okay." I said.
We headed upstairs and ate dinner. I talked to her mom and got to know that she is a really nice woman.
After dinner Nika and I sat in the living room as I waited for my aunt to come get me.
"So you going to the Homecoming dance?"
"When is it?" I asked.
"This month, the Wednesday before Thanksgiving."
"Oh okay, most definitely, that means we gotta go shopping." I said.
"I know."
"So you gonna go with Quay?" I asked.
"I want too but I don't know if that will blow our secret, ya know?"
"So, don't tell nobody y'all talkin' and just go as friends."
"We could do that. So who you gonna go with?"
"Between me and you I really want to go with Malik."
"You like Malik?! I never would have thought in a million years that you liked him the way y'all always goin' back and forth."
"Well yea, I have liked him ever since the day I met him."
"Aw, y'all would make a cute couple."
"I don't know 'bout that, but I do know that I'm really feelin' him, and I just hope he asks me."
"But what if he doesn't?" She said.
"Think positive boo, think positive." I said causing her to laugh. "Well if he doesn't ask me by the end of this week, then I'll ask him."
"Okay, well I wish you all the best." She said.
Soon after my aunt called me and told me she was outside.
"Okay Nika I'll see you tomorrow and maybe Friday all of us can go shoppin'."
"Yea most definitely."
I gave her a hug and went out to aunts car.
