Chapter One:
I tapped my pen onto my desk with anticipation. Why did I deserve to meet One Direction? I stared at my lifeless paper. The question kept skipping through my mind like a broken record player. Why did I, Cher Marie Lovett, deserve to meet One Direction? Lots of ideas swirled my mind, but one caught my attention.
Without thinking twice, I scribbled onto the paper, “So I can lick Liam Payne's abs.”
I know what you're thinking. That's probably the dumbest reason ever.
But, hey, it was 100 percent truthful and its not like they're gonna read it anyways.
Pretty pleased with my idea from God, I skipped over to Mrs. Richards’ desk and slammed down my masterpiece. “I'm finished,” I smirked with a mouthful of victory.
Little did I know that a simple, ‘I'm finished’ would be my biggest regret yet.
About one week after our writing assignment for Mrs. Richards, the fall of my reign at this school surely came. ‘What happened?’ You may ask. Well, I only have one answer for that: Liam freaking Payne.
I may sound a bit overdramatic considering I didn’t actually reign at my school at all. In fact, I was basically a nobody to all of the so-called “populars”. I swear, if you sit near them for more than five minutes you can feel your brain cells depleting. Besides them, I had some great friends. We were so mean to one another but hey, that’s what friendship is, right?
Anyways, I bet you’re dying to know why I was so embarrassed that I almost died. Literally, I almost died. I’m not even exaggerating. Well, it all started when One Direction decided to make a surprise visit to my school, which was totally bogus to me considering I hate my school and it’s in the middle of nowhere. What I didn’t know was that they were coming here to meet some supposed “authors”. Psh, no one at this school was smart enough to become an author.
My annoying best friend kept throwing paper balls at my head during class. Seriously, why didn’t Mrs. Richards ever notice these things?
“What do you want?” I seethed.
“I’m bored,” Spencer whined.
“Just pay attention!” I warned her.
“But that’s not fun,” She said.
I didn’t reply to her even though the paper balls kept coming. I sighed. She was so childish. That’s why we were best friends though.
Mrs. Richards said something, but as usual I wasn’t able to understand her because of my obnoxious best friend. I was flabbergasted when five drop dead gorgeous boys pranced into my classroom. Four of them walked in looking like Calvin Klein models, but one literally pranced like a deer.
It took me a few more seconds before the shock set in and I realized One Direction was standing before me… Hmm, that’s odd. Just last week we had a writing assignment about them. My entry was a joke, but I figured since I’m freaking hilarious that I should let it show!
A girl beside me started hyperventilating and fell out of her desk. She was rushed to the nurse by another girl near me. ‘Wow’, I thought, ‘Talk about hardcore fans.’
“Hello everyone! We’re One Direction,” They all said in sync.
“Well duh, I think we already knew that,” I muttered quietly to myself.
Spencer chuckled. She had amazing ears.
Harry spoke up. “About a week ago your teacher asked all of you to write a response on why you should get to meet us.”
Uh oh, I didn’t like the direction this was going in. I gulped at the thought of them actually reading my paper…
“We read all of them!” Louis added.
“And we’re here to read out some of our favorites!” Niall piped up.
Oh dear God, please don’t let mine be one of their favorites…
Immediately, Zayn read an inspirational response written by Jessica Carver. She wrote about how she thought she deserved to meet One Direction because they were her biggest inspiration. Also, her sister passed away last year and it was her dream to meet them.
Why couldn’t I have made up some excuse instead of saying that I wanted to lick Liam Payne’s abs? I was so stupid.
One by one, the boys each shared their favorite. Niall’s favorite was written by a girl named Randie Beam who said she deserved to meet One Direction because she liked food like Niall so they would get along well.
Liam’s favorite was written by Patricia Stone who had been saving up money for three years to see the boys live.
Harry really liked one written by a girl named Emma Andrews who said that she deserved to meet the boys because she liked cats.
Louis announced his favorite being written by Riley Allot, who wrote that she should meet One Direction because they inspired her to write songs of her own. Also, she wrote “HAIL LOUIS” in capital letters and said that she would support him if he ever decided to rule the world. Apparently, that’s why it was Louis’ favorite.
I have to admit, Riley’s was pretty weird but it was no where compared to mine. I was so relieved that they didn’t read mine aloud…
Well, unfortunately for me, I spoke too soon.
“And lastly, four of us decided that one response in particular was our all time favorite… We hid it from Liam, but we want him to read it aloud right now. This one is from Cher Lovett. Where are you Cher?” Harry asked loudly.
I was just going to sit there and act like I didn’t even know who a ‘Cher Lovett’ was, but my stupid best friend Spencer just had to ruin it.
“Cher’s right here!” She yelled as she jumped up and pointed at me.
Liam smiled and grabbed the paper from Louis.
“Cher says the reason she deserves to meet us is…” Liam started as he looked down, “So I can lick Liam Payne’s abs.”
Cue the laughter. Liam just realized what he just said and his face turned as red as a tomato. He stared at me with his mouth open. I realized that he must think I’m some kind of freak. Even though I sounded like a creep, he still didn’t have to embarrass me like that.
My classmates taunted me with their endless laughter. Harry, Niall, Zayn, and Louis were all doubled over in laughter while Liam just stared at me. All of my classmates laughed and pointed at me. Spencer was trying to say something to me but every other sound around me was drowned out by everyone’s laughter.
I was humiliated and it was the worst feeling in the world. I got up out of my desk and ran as far away from my classroom as my wobbly legs would take me. I ran until I wasn’t even in my all-girls school anymore. I was now at a gas station across the street. I ran in there and hid in the bathroom.
I let all my frustration out by kicking the toilet. It wasn’t a good idea. My foot was throbbing and I was crying. My cell phone vibrated numerous times in my pocket but I didn’t even bother getting it out. I knew my parents would kill me for running away from school, but I just didn’t care. Someone knocked on the door and I went into complete rage mode.
“GO AWAY!” I screamed.
The knocking stopped. After my outburst I felt even worse. I just yelled at an innocent person.
Worst. Day. Ever.
