Chapter 7:

My Past With The Sun Warriors

The weekend started and I was supposed to be meeting up with Zuko today, but instead I am travelling to the Sun Warriors temple. When Zuko told me of his adventures with the group he’d mentioned how the Sun Warriors had many traps, and the picture they came across of a Sun Warrior and two dragons. I believe that picture is of Yue with the dragons who raised her and Celeste, either her or Zya. In my opinion the Sun Warriors are the direct descendants of Yue and that the dragons somehow taught the Fire Nation bending well Sun Warriors are born with the gift directly. The Sun Warriors are so natural at bending because they are descendants of a Spirit Dragon and Yue.

When Zuko showed me the dragon dance I had a vision of a woman of the Sun Warriors with Zuko in Fire Nation garb. I believe that Zuko’s mother is a Sun Warrior making Zuko a direct descendant of Yue. It would also mean that we are related in more than one way because my mother was the daughter of an airbender and a Sun Warrior. I can tell that Zuko isn’t Ozai’s son he’s missing the distinct aura of his father or grandfather, he has Iroh’s aura. I think Zuko’s real father is Iroh and that is why his mother was sent away because Ozai suspected that she hadn’t been faithful to him, but Zuko bore the Royal mark and looked like him so Ozai believed Zuko was his son.

Being careful I drew fog in around the palace, so as not to be seen when I fly off with Cata. If Zuko knew where I was going he would want to come, and the Sun Warriors might accidently reveal my true identity to Zuko. I used Earthbending as my eyes and airbending as my ears and snuck into the compound. Cata, Mika, and Kyro sensed me instantly and came to greet me with kisses. Unfortunately Appa is here and he might raise an alarm when Cata and I leave. I had to take the chance though and I got Cata equipped to go leaving Mika and Kyro with Appa we flew into the sky heading towards the Sun Warriors home.

We travelled for hours on end without a break I feared someone would come after me realizing who and what I truly am. The last time I met with the Sun Warriors was the day I gave Ran to them keeping her egg hidden because I knew it wouldn’t hatch for a long time. I was ten when I gifted Ran to them as a mate for Cha their other master. I told them in the future Iroh would realize the true meaning of Firebending and come to face the masters when he remembered that my dragon disappeared he’d remember that I protected her with my life. At the time I hadn’t meet Gyatso yet and I didn’t know the reason I was different, but I had a deep connection with the dragons that connected me with them enough so I actually talked to Ran. Ran was sad when I left, but understood that I was doing it to protect her from Sozin and my nephews.

Finally the familiar temple came into sight and I sent Cata back home I’d find my own way back. Taking a longer route would help me think about what I would learn from the Sun Warriors none would recognize me, but I had brought with me an ancient bracelet. When I brought Ran to them I was given a Sun Warrior bracelet to identify me when I was older as the one who brought Ran to them, or as my descendant who I trusted with the secret. I had to sneak into my room at the palace to acquire it again. Before anything though I want to see Ran again she may be older by over a hundred years since the last time I saw her, but we will still have our psychic connection.

Walking along the overgrown path memoires of the day I left Ran behind came right into my mind. I had just heard dad and Uncle Sozin talking about how they’d explain Ran’s death to me after they killed her. After hearing that I ran away and searched for over a month for the Sun Warriors half dead when I found them.

Flashback:

“Hey is she dead,” I heard a voice say and then felt someone poking me in the side with a stick hearing a growl come from above me followed by screams.

“Boys what’s wrong?” I heard another voice ask.

“There’s a scary monster about to eat a little girl,” one of them said tearfully making me laugh and struggle to sit up.

“Ran’s not going to eat me she’s my dragon,” I said laughing.

“Come with me,” the woman with the little boys in her skirt said.

I followed her willingly though I had to lean on Ran to walk. In the time since I left it’s been a month, and we haven’t found much food for Ran let alone me. Since Ran’s a dragon though she can go longer without food, and it’s not physically affecting her much. Finally the woman stopped in front of a man.

“Who do we have here?” he asked sounding genuinely interested.

“I am the Crown Princess of the Fire Nation Siria, daughter of Lord Ayrin, and niece to Fire-Lord Sozin. I have been searching for the Sun Warriors for a month to ask you to hide my dragon Ran, my uncle and father are planning to slaughter the dragons, and I know how much you respect the dragons. I was hoping that you’d take Ran and protect her like I can’t,” I answered before I fainted.

When I awoke I was in a room and Ran was poking her head through the window. I smiled and started to get up to go and pet her when a hand pushed me back down. Getting ready to fight I noticed that it was the woman who had brought me here and that I was very weak. She passed me a cup and motioned for me to drink as I did strength flowed into my veins.

“Thank you um…”

“Rika I’m Avatar Roku’s daughter, and I’m betrothed to the Sun Warriors chief Adein” she said it was only then that I noticed how young she looked.

“Thank you for your help”

“No problem, but why is such a young child on the verge of death?”

“I needed to save Ran nothing else mattered and the only people who could help me were the Sun Warriors. I’ve been searching for you for a month now to save Ran’s life for me,” I answered.

“Rika is she awake yet,” I heard someone call in.

“Yes Adein you can come in and see her yourself if you’d like,” Rika responded.

“Thank you for helping me. I know that I might be related to Sozin, but when I inherit the throne I will change everything,” I told him before he could say anything.

“No thank you child. You’re so young, but you risked your life in order to save that of your dragon. I would like to give this to you my people will know that you are blessed by the chief himself, and if you ever want to see Ran you may. I’m giving you this because from your statement I take it that you don’t plan to stay do you?” Adein handed over a gorgeous yellow bracelet connected as if they were entangling dragons.

“No. With what Sozin is doing and since he chose to name me heir above any children he has I must act like I don’t care until I become Fire-Lord and then everything will be perfect. One day I pray that Ran can roam free in the skies of the Fire Nation again without me fearing she will be killed. Thank you for your gift and your promise to save Ran.”

                End of Flashback:

Suddenly out of nowhere I was surrounded by the Sun Warriors lead by Ursa herself. Ignoring them I called Ran through our mind link and rejoiced when I heard a roar from the mountains. The warriors were looking at me scared probably that I’d hurt Ran when a blue dragon flew out with her and both circled in front of me before they landed. As soon as she was on the ground Ran began to nuzzle me.

“Master Ran get away from this person she might hurt you,” a man dressed in the chiefs clothing said it was Adein I thought he’d be dead.

“Adein really out of all people you should recognize me since I haven’t changed a bit,” I said laughing at him.

“Princess Siria, but you’re supposed to be dead!” he exclaimed.

”No I came here to ask about Yue and what she truly was. I ask this favor in return for me helping you save the dragons. I see I was right about Ursa being your daughter Zuko is heartbroken over her disappearance.”

“How did you? Never mind you always were very perceptive, I can’t believe you haven’t changed a bit in a hundred years,” he told me laughing.

“Well I guess being the Avatar’s twin sister might explain it which is why I need to know about Yue. Somehow I was transported ninety-five years into the future when my birthmarks glowed. Please Adein I must now,” I begged him.

“Alright but it will have to be tonight. Yue’s monument can only be reached in the dark,” he answered me. “Until then you can rest in your old room.” I followed him to the room I had stayed in so many years ago and fell asleep the instant my head hit the pillow.
