June 12th, 2010, Baton Rouge LA : Aaliyah James ✨
I was riding my Barbie bike down the neighborhood with my cousin chasing behind me trying to keep up.
"Slow down liyah gah damn!" My cousin Kingston yelled. "Sorry K, try ta' keep up wimme!" I yelled back.
Kingston and I were both 10 and he was down here for the summer as always. He didn't live with us, he lived in New Awlins (Orleans) and I lived in Baton Rouge but my auntie Ronda brought him down every summer for us ta' bond.
But that's my homie. "Aaliyah watch o—" before he could finish I slammed wheel first into a pole and fell on some boy. "Get of me lil ugly girl!" He shouted and pushed me on the pavement.
I looked up as he stood over me, he had dents in his head and this white T-shirt with some basketball shorts on, he looked my age.
My cousin helped me up but pushed the boy. "Stop King!" I yelled holding him back cause I knew he was gone fight. "Naw naw cause he jus pushed you Lele, that's mean!"
When he called me lele I knew he was mad. "But I'm okay doe, see" I said pointing to my face and my clothes, I had only a little scrape on my knee from the fall.
"I'm sorry" the boy said softly as he apologized. I knew he meant it. "It's okay, ma' name Aaliyah, and this my cousin Kingston" I said pointing to King who was standing behind me mugging the hell out of the boy.
"Ma' name Kentrell"
"Aye you wanna play wit us Kentrell?" I asked kindly. Kingston finally stopped being angry and stood beside me.
"Yeah" he said lifting my bike up from the ground and gently handing it to me.
Soon enough I was riding down the block again with them to chasing behind...
