This idea just came to be while I was trying to fall asleep, so even now, I'm still trying to decide whether it's a good idea or not. Sorry.

When Gajeel finally returned to Fairy Tail after seven long years, the first thing he thought of was the companion that he used to talk to.
Where was she now?
And so, he left the guild quite quickly to contact her. He took out the communication lacrima that she had given him, all those years ago.
It was quite small and black, unlike any other lacrima that he's seen.
Gajeel tapped it thrice against the wall and waited for a response. It was almost immediate as a voice called out from the lacrima.
"Gajeel? Is that really you?!"
"Who else would I be?" Gajeel answered, smiling slightly.
He looked inside the lacrima, but it was always the same. Black and shadowy.
She was hidden from view, just like every other time they talked. He eventually got used to it some time ago. At least she was there.
"You're back! It so great to see you again!" She exclaimed.
He didn't even know her name and yet, she was special to him.
Gajeel noticed that her voice had changed. It sounded older now, like music to his sensitive ears.
"Yeah. Great to hear you to"
"So, tell me. What in the world happened? How did you disappear for seven years? I tried to contact you, I really did but the lacrima didn't work!"
And so, Gajeel started explaining everything, leaving out nothing as he explained.
She listened to him just like she always did. In the past, she always gave him advice and listened quietly to his rants.
He trusted her a lot for some odd reason. He never knew why, but he trusted his instincts.
She never talked about herself though, which frustrated Gajeel a bit. He wanted to know about her, yet she refused to talk about herself.
"Really? So you haven't aged?" she asked, intrigued.
"I just said that didn't I?" Gajeel asked. He could hear her laugh from the other end.
"I realise. So, is Fairy Tail planning to participate in the Grand Magic Games?"
"The what?"
"Then Grand Magic Games silly, where all of the legal guilds in Fiore compete for the time of the number one guild. Sabertooth currently holds that title"
"What about us?"
"Fairy Tail... well..." she trialed off as though she was reluctant to tell him. "Last place. You're acknowledged as the weakest guild in all of Fiore"
"The hell?!"
"That's why you have to compete in the games. Earn your way back to the top. I'm certain you can do it"
"Why? What guild are you a part off?" Gajeel asked, wanting answers.
"Do you really want to know?"
"Course"
"I'll see you at the Grand Magic Games. You must compete. You'll find out then" she said and Gajeel could almost hear her smirking.
"How the hell am I supposed to recognise you? I've never seen you before!"
"I'm disappointed, we've been talking for so long. I'm sure you'll be able to recognise my voice"
"That doesn't help" Gajeel growled. He suddenly heard an unfamiliar voice from her end.
"Oi! [Name]! Hurry up, we've finished the job" a male voice called. Gajeel still couldn't see anything from the other end.
"Right! Just a second" the girl, or [Name], called back. "Sorry Gajeel, guess you know my name now, it'll be easier for you right? The next time we talk will be at the Grand Magic Games. Until then!"
"Got it" Gajeel said and there was silence.
He'll find her. She won't be hidden for long. He'll finally be able to meet the girl that he's been talking to for all the years.

Gajeel walked around the streets of Crocus, searching for his exceed, who had disappeared from under his nose. Along the way, he also tried to listen out for the girl named [Name].
Whispers surrounded him as people glanced at the black Fairy Tail mark on his shoulder. They were all laughing at him. Laughing at the fact that Fairy Tail was weak.
He clenched his teeth, stopping himself from attacking them. From tarnishing Fairy Tail's reputation anymore.
As he walked, a girl ran into him. Almost immediately, she fell to the floor while Gajeel remained standing, looking at her.
"Ow..." she muttered, holding her head as she glanced up. Her eyes widened in recognition when she saw that she had run into Gajeel.
"Oi, watch where you're going" Gajeel told her, his hand reaching out to pull her up as he ignored the look she gave him.
"Sorry about that" she smiled gently at him as she gratefully took the hand he offered.
Gajeel easily pulled her up as he looked at her. She seemed familiar, but he would've remembered her if they had met before. On top of that, she also seemed to recognise him.
"Have we met before?" Gajeel asked and the girl shook her head.
"Don't think so, though you're Gajeel Refox aren't you? From Fairy Tail?"
"Yeah"
"So Fairy Tail is competing in the Grand Magic Games?" she asked, not laughing like everyone else. Instead, she seemed hopeful.
"You ain't gonna laugh?"
"Why would I laugh? I'm not like everyone else, let them all laugh but the only thing that matters is what you believe" she told him earnestly. "As some say it, where there's a will, there's a way. If you believe that you can win then you have to work for that goal"
Gajeel didn't say anything in reply to her words. They sounded like the words that [Name] told him before when she convinced him to join Fairy Tail.
The girl in front of him was still smiling, playing with her [Hair Colour] hair. He was just about to ask her something but she had started speaking before he could make a sound.
"So, do you think that you'll win the games?" she asked him.
"Course. We'll beat that Sabertooth guild" Gajeel smirked as the girl nodded.
"Then I'll be silently cheering you on" she told him, looking away. "Earn your way back to the top. I'm sure you can do it"
Gajeel's eyes widened as he glanced at her. She had mirrored [Name]'s words from before. He saddened noticed the small black lacrima that hung from her neck. The exact same as his.
"Hang on..."
"Figured it out have you?" [Name] asked, smirking slightly.
"[Name]! Where did you run off to this time?" the same male voice from the last interaction called from a distance away.
"Coming Sting! Just stay there!" [Name] called back, turning around.
As she walked away, she glanced back at Gajeel, a smile on her face. She waved and Gajeel, for the first time noticed the mark on her body.
She was a part of Sabertooth.
"I'll talk to you tonight!" she said happily before running once again.
Gajeel watched her leave, smiling slightly. She had always remained hidden when they talked, though he was glad that he finally got to see her face now.
Gajeel took the small lacrima out of his pocket, which had changed to be clear. He held onto it as he continued to search for Panther Lily.
