Okay, when they said curiosity killed the cat they weren't lying. But they weren't telling the whole truth either. No. Curiosity skinned the cat while it was still alive then slowly watched it die.
Kyna was shocked. Then intrigued. She thought she could travel to other worlds. No one ever said she could go to heavenly planes. Does that mean she'd see her dad again?
Kyna was so lost in thought in the new advantages she learned about her abilities. When she realized too late they were standing out in an open field.
"I saw that you've caught up with us," Bellart-Kyna said with a hint of amusement as he, Ossie and Tinna came towards them over. "I'd set a trap for you but you didn't fall into it. Instead you 're just standing around here. Aren't you supposed to capture me?"
Despite their current situation Kyna rolled her eyes. He'd set a trap. She's seen enough movies to know that next will come the big shocking reveal.
God, she hoped she'll be able to take it.
"Hello my nephew." Kyna startled. If she had a stomach it would've clenched and lurched at those words. She looked between Nica and Lumerio trying to pick out features of resemblance before she remembered she had no idea how the original Bellart looked like. "And hello again assassin."
Oh yeah, her stomach would've tumbled down to her toes and back up to her throat. By this time, from Lumerio and Nica's stony faces and flinches, Kyna had a good guess who was the blood relation and murderer for hire. Guess tonight was the night for a lot of truths to come out.
But just to be sure...
"Any my lovely traveler, Kyn-"
Kyna raised her hand, arm straight and palm up. "Hold up a sec," she interrupting his speech. Villains. Shaking her head mentally she turned her attention to her two partners, in this crazy it must be a very long dream mission.
She pointed at Nica. "Nephew?"
"Not anymore." Eyes unmoving from Bellart-Kyna, Nica unsheathed his blade at B-K. Feet set wide apart, muscles tightly coiled and ready to strike.
She next pointed at Lumerio. "Assassin?"
"Not anymore," said Lumerio. Then he pulled out from his back pockets thin blades that came to a sharp point. Awfully, familiar thin blades.
Scalpels?
"Are those..."
He gave her a sheepish grin and shrugged, "Needed something now that I'm obviously coming out of retirement."
Kyna turned her attention back to B-K. He watched them with a bemused face as his two lackeys Ossie and Tinna looked on, their faces twisted in pissed off and confusion. Both emotions battled for supremacy. And when they fisted their hands, bodies locked tight like a coiled spring, she knew which one won out.
Ossie and Tinna trained their eyes on her and if looks could kill. Whew.
But as far as she was concerned they deserved whatever they'll get once the police catch up with them. Trying to bring her brother down into their odious fold was criminal itself. Aside from the entire craziness of the whole thing, a tiny part of her was thankful Bellart stole her body. If not, she'd never known what her brother was getting into. Or set up events for her brother to get out before he could no longer be able to clean the muck off his soul from living such a lifestyle.
"Hi guys," Kyna taunted, waving her hand at them. "No big reveal you'd like to share too."
Tinna moved forward. "Fuck you bitch! I'ma kill you." With the reflexes of a snake striking and sinking its venomous teeth into soft flesh, Nica moved in front of her and swung his blade. It happened so fast she wouldn't have known he used his weapon except for the spurt of blood, the droplets landing on the blades of grass and her feet.
Poor bastard, thought Kyna. The last she saw Nica swung that weapon of his around, if twas before they officially met in real life outside her dreams. Dreams, she now learned the hard way, that weren't really dreams.
At the same time Lumerio had immediately moved to flank her left. They both stood in front of her, her own personal warriors ready to smite any enemies that so much look at her wrong.
"Mothafucka," spluttered Ossie. Tinna held him back with one arm while the other whipped from around his back and he pointed a gun at them.
Scared, Kyna's gaze went to B-K. He'd not once made a move or opened his mouth to order Ossie and Tinna to stop. Or told them to kill us. Instead he watched them with the same, slightly irritating bemusement as if they were some ridiculous reality TV show he'd stumbled on to.
Watching him watching them just made her...made her...
"Hey Bellart! Don't have nothing else to say? Like one of these guys is your son?"
Bellart chuckled. "I'd often wondered since entering this body what kind of person its predecessor was? Since the body was of a child I expected someone childish." Kyna frowned. Bellart clasped his hands behind his back and began to pace his eyes never leaving hers. He ignored his lackeys and her protectors. "Seeing you in that doll," he said with derision "and conversing with you, though I found your churlish words spewing from your mouth somewhat amusing, I'm a bit disappointed in how right I am. To think, a person like you is a traveler. Such power you wield. And what have you done with it? Nothing."
That sonuva...before all this shit went down she had no idea she had that kind of power. If she did, she would've jettisoned around the world three times over. Visiting places like Singapore, Japan, Europe, the pyramids and without a passport or needing money? No way she wouldn't take advantage. Kya just learned about her abilities. And instead of learning how to 'wield' as he said she had to deal with him and cronies first.
Not one to disappoint Kyna crossed her arms and exaggeratedly rolled her eyes as if she couldn't be bothered in teen angst perfection.
"Wow," she boredly drawled stretching the word until she saw the vein on her body's forehead pop out. "So you did have a speech prepared. That means all this time you had to do your big bad plan was spent writing that up."
She shook her head and gave him her best pitying look. "Tsk, tsk, tsk," admonished Kyna. "You could've least signed up for a public speaking course."
"Do not provoke me little girl." From the way her 'face' mottled Kyna had half a mind - no a whole one- to do the opposite. He wasn't her daddy. Or her mother.
She leaned on one leg, her right hip jut slightly out as she crossed her arms. And with a casual can't be bothered shrug, she opened her mouth. But the words 'or what?' withered and died as she witnessed the whites of her 'eyes' turn black as if she was possessed by a demon.
In fact she was if she'd stop to think about it. On guard, she watched in trepidation all the while striving to maintain an appearance of indifference as Bellart-Kyna smiled the kind of creepy smile that'd give your great-grandchildren chills.
You're right little one." Bellart-Kyna nodded, his sudden accordance upped his creepiness factor. "Enough talk. Let's how you say 'bring it?'"
Hearing those two words Kyna tried to stop the vibrations from the back of her throat from spewing out. Tried being the imperative word. But the snigger came out, loud and clear, from the fury on Bellart-Kyna's face. Apparently he didn't like being laughed at it. Too used to being feared it was obviously he didn't take too kindly being found amusing.
But come on who said 'bring it' in 2012. Did he marathon the cheerleader movies all this time while he stranded her back on his world? If so, then the tears rolling out her eyes and down her cheeks as she doubled over with mirth was a powerful relief. Though she didn't want to think too hard about it, they were a lot of things that could've happened -especially after finding out he hooked up with Ossie and Tinna- while using her body. Movies about cheerleaders weren't it.
The laughter soon trickled down to giggles. And by then Kyna realized too late that she should've taken his changed in attitude seriously earlier. As in yesterday. At least Lumerio and Nica didn't make that mistake. If anything their backs looked as stiff as hardened concrete.
With quick steps she never knew her body was capable of doing, Bellart-Kyna approached Ossie and Tinna. Thinking their new, unlikely partner was done with the melodrama they made space for 'her' in between them. Three against three, they never took their eyes off them.
And she was the only one without a weapon. Shit!
The only weapon on her was her mouth and Bellart-Kyna was obviously tired of hearing it. Her eyes traveled between Nica and Lumerio. To be inconspicuous as possible Nica had only brought his sword. Definitely not something she can use or even lift higher than her chest. On the other hand Lumerio stolen some scalpels.
Kyna leaned forward. "Lumerio," she whispered, "You got another scalpel I can use."
Lumerio remained focused on the three men, sorta as one of those bodies were female, but his right eye glanced at her on his side. He answered with a short nod, gave the scalpel he held in his hand and deftly replaced it with a new one from his trench coat.
"Yo Kyna," Tinna sneered at them then turned in deference to Bellart-Kyna. Kyna's doll brow arched in confusion. For as long and little as she knew them, Ossie and Tinna never came off as the subservient type. With one look after meeting them, Kyna smelled the cloying smugness seeping through their pores from beneath their skin.
They weren't the type to follow anyone's orders but their own. Or have them disobeyed.
The sight of them acting opposite from the norm was unsettling. A sense of dread of what the trio's relation dynamics meant curdled in her chest like rotten milk.
And what happened next made her want to vomit.
As soon as Bellart-Kyna reached his newly acquired lackeys, Kyna watched in horror as 'her' hands were placed on their hands. She couldn't for the life of her explain why she was overwhelmed with the urge to yell at the two fools to run but she rushed forward and did it anyway.
Ossie and Tinna never saw it coming. They were too busy itching to beat their asses they never knew anything was wrong at first. But their bodies did. They racked and shuddered in such pain their mouths dropped open in horrifying screams as if someone was carving out their organs from the inside without anesthesia.
All too soon the screaming stopped. Ossie and Tinna stood still before them like mannequins. Lifeless. Soulless. Their eyes blacker than the NYC skies, no hint of any light of their usual greed or megalomania shining through from the whites of their eyes.
"Now my dear, talking ends." He waved at them and ordered his new puppets, "Bring me the girl. Kill the other two."
