[A/N] It's very short, but it's a chapter nonetheless. If I get enough votes, I'll upload another chapter a bit early. ;D

P.S. For those of you who read My Normal Life and Book II, I'd like your opinion on what she wants to do for her birthday, because I haven't a clue. I don't really celebrate birthdays. I'll be waiting for your answers!

Chapter Four: Just a Cold

Wednesday-Thursday,

February 16, 2011-February 17, 2011

"I refuse."

"Come on, you have to!"

"No!"

I rolled over in bed, too tired to get up. "Come on, it's time to get up!"

"No!" I put the pillow over my head.

"If you don't get up right now," she threatened in a low and slow voice, "I'll go get Lane."

"Well, it's time to start the day, don't you think?" I was up in less than a second and in the shower. She laughed the whole time I retreated to the bathroom.

~~

We were barely at school when Alec and Addison were at the doors of the car.

"You are taking me, right?" Alec said as I stepped out of the car. At first, I had no idea what he was talking about, but then I was slapped in the face with it. "Oh! Yes, Alec, of course."

"Of course," Addison said, "we'll all be going. But it's only you and the person Cassie chooses to take that will be allowed any further than the stands."

"I thought it was a witches and wizards games."

"Well," Addison told me. "The fact that it's a witches and wizards games only mean that they're the hosts this year. Everyone in the magical community, except the wild ones, is invited to participate in. It's like that for everyone, except for our games."

"Why not your games?"

"It's your games to, you know."

"Okay, then why not our games?"

"Because our games are too dangerous. It would get everyone else killed. Only vampires can participate in them," she said in a voice so low I could barely hear her. "And judge them."

We walked into the building and sat down.

"Why is everyone staring at us?" Cassie asked.

"Because they're typical high schoolers," I said. "Ignore them."

"But it's true that they would need a juicy rumor to get them staring in the first place," Addison said brightly. "I wonder what they've come up with. It sure will be interesting to find out." She hung her arms around her brother's shoulders. "Won't it?"

"Sure it will," he said smiling down at her.

~~

"Now the Green Berets, or the Special Forces of the United States Army, were something of an amazing people. These men were chosen specifically and very carefully. The U.S. Army Special Forces were formed in 1952, initially under the U.S. Army Psychological Warfare Division headed by the then Brigadier Gen. Robert McClure." Cleek took a breath and looked up from the Promethean board. "Spicer Monkey! Tell me when the Green Berets were formed and why they are called what they are."

We all waited.

"Nothing? Good. Now, give me the phone." They class started to chuckle. "Since we seem to be having a hard time paying attention, you've all earned yourselves another DBQ."

That was when we actually got angry. DBQs, (Document Based Questions) were not difficult to do, however, they were a pain in the ass. They were a bunch of documents and you had to analyze them based on the question asked.

In a flash of a vision, I saw a girl being what looked like Taser-ed to the ground, but then she started bleeding and she lie on the floor looking at me, winked. Then a flash of color, and she was dead. I came back to reality, only to find that I was too late to stop her from going out, because she said,

"I don't care if we have one, because I'm not doing another God D*mned one. I'm sick of your bull shit, shit head. You give too much damn work in here anyway," she said apparently livid and walked out. I had half a mind to follow her out there, but I was sure glad I didn't.

There was a loud crackling noise and all of a sudden we saw her muscles lock up tight and she was on the ground in seconds, convulsing, her crimson blood spilling quickly to the floor.

We only saw them seconds later when they were in front of the door trying to get in. Alec and Solomon quickly got up, too fast for human eyes to see, and held on to the door with their vampire strength, and it looked like they two people on the other side of that door were also vampires, because Alec and Solomon were struggling to keep them out. There were only two other vampires in the room.

Me, but I was only half, so that didn't count, and Addison who jumped up to helped them. The rest of the class got to the corner of the room where they couldn't be seen, and Cleek called the front office telling them a lockdown was needed. I just sat there staring at them, mesmerized by their eyes.

They were so cold looking. I felt they could kill me with their stare, yet I couldn't look away. I was too transfixed. I was wondering why Savanah had to die. What had they killed her with? I didn't see a gun, but there must have been one. I was able to look away for a moment, just to look at Savanah on the floor, her head looked at us, at me.

She looked at me for a moment, and then I thought I saw her wink. I watched as she slowly, and undetected, put her arms in front of her, aiming at the perpetrator's feet. Then, in a sudden blast of color, they were gone, nothing left but their clothes and Savanah lie on the floor dead.

I don't know what happened after that moment, because I blacked out, and I refused to hear what the others had to say about it, but I regained consciousness sitting up at the end of an ambulance. I only had a few cuts from the blast of color, whatever it was, and an EMT was dabbing at it gently.

"Do you need to be taken to the hospital, ma'am?"

"No," I said, a stranger to my own voice. "I'm okay. Did you get Savanah?" Her parents will be devastated, I thought.

~~

That night, I was home again, sleeping in my own bed, snuggling up to Eva. It was cold in the house. Or maybe that was me.

I'd seen a lot of things, even seen my parents die! But seeing that, for some reason, shook my very core like nothing ever has before.

All I know is the fact that they've killed someone. I don't know why, and I don't know how. Hell, I don't even know who they are! But it wouldn't be a comfort to find out, either.

As my mind was brought out of my train of thought from Eva coughing, I noticed that she was hot. I threw the covers over us and felt her head. A little too hot.

"Eva, honey, wake up. Eva," I said shaking her.

"I don't feel good mommy, let me sleep," she said in a soft voice. I pushed the curtain of the bed back and went to my bathroom to get some Motrin for her. After I made her sit up and take that, I found an extra blanket and covered her up with both of them. I might not have been a doctor, but I knew how to take care of a simple cold.

And for some reason, I knew exactly what it was, without a shadow of a doubt.

"Go back to sleep, baby," I said softly in her ear. She mumbled a response and snuggled closer to the blankets.

"Lay with me, mommy." Her six year old frame was shaking, so I slid in the bed next to her.

"Go back to sleep," I whispered.

I lay in bed with her wrapped in my arms for an hour before Cassie came to wake me up for school.

"I won't be going," I told her in a quiet voice. "Eva has a cold, so I'm going to stay home with her."

"Okay," she said back. "Who do you want to stay home with you? You know they'll fight if you don't tell them." I thought a moment and responded with Alec.

"Force Solomon to go to school if you have to," I told her. She nodded and left.

A few moments later Alec walked in the room.

"You sure it's a cold?" He asked, walking in to sit next to me.

"Absolutely positive."

He smiled. "Maybe you should be a doctor like Pierce."

"That's something to look into."

He smiled again, and, to my surprise, he bent down and placed his lips lightly on mine. Then he went to the other side of the bed and took off his shirt and shoes. To my great relief, he had an undershirt on under that. He pulled the covers back and lay on the other side of Eva, gathering her in his left arm, he took his right hand and found my arm, wrapping it over Eva and holding my hand.

"Go to sleep," he whispered. So I did.
