Do not ask me why I wrote so much for the backstory. I just did because it seemed like a great idea at the time and I was too stubborn to let the idea go because I spent so long thinking of it.

Years ago, there was little girl who lead a life of misery. She spent her life in a cell, only ever being able to see the stars and the moonlight through the bars of her jail.
She wasn't considered a human, only ever an object that they could replace when she broke. She was used as an experiment, to test if it was possible to achieve immortality.
There were many other children there, but they all disappeared within a few months after they were brought in. All presumably died and were easily replaced.
The scientists there were cruel and showed no mercy towards any of the experiments as they were injected with different types of liquid. All hazardous. All of them caused unimaginable and unbearable pain.
All of the children there dreaded the daylight, for with the dawn, came torture to them. Would they be forced into that machine? Would they be injected with what was essentially poison? Or worse of all, would they be cut open and have foreign things placed in their bodies?
You see, to the children that were being use as experiments, death was a saviour. It was freedom. If they died, then it meant that the gods took mercy upon them.
Every night, those who couldn't fall asleep would cry in fear of the next day. They would scream in pain from that day's torture. They would pray to be free of this torment, to be relieved of the suffering.
[Name] would be able to hear their terrifying screams of agony during the night. Every night, she would wish on the stars. She would wish for all the misery to end.
One night, as she stared out of her cell window looking at the stars that blinked down on her, she spotted a shooting star.
Without a moment's hesitation, she made a wish upon the shooting star. She had heard from her past cellmate that wishing upon a shooting star would make the wish come true.
"I wish that I can break free of this place... I wish that I help all of the other children... Take my voice, my sight, my life, I don't care... Just please... I want to be free..." she begged, tears streaming down her cheeks as her body started to shake.
A girl that was only a child, who wished not for herself from the bottom of her heart. She wished for the happiness of others, unlike so many others that came before her.
Perhaps the gods felt merciful that night, for [Name] found herself to able to use magic. She could suddenly hear all the wishes of the other children. All of their heart's desires.
Something inside her stirred and an explosion happened that night, killing the majority of people in that area. The Magic Council was notified and appeared within moments to see the cause.
On sight, they found a little girl, silently crying as she sat in the midst of the explosion. They found the evidence of illegal experimentation and those remaining scientists who survived the explosion were arrested.
The children who survived, expect for [Name], were all lifeless. They were like broken dolls. The light had disappeared from their eyes. None of them responded anything that the rune knights asked them.
The little [Hair Colour] haired girl was taken to a guild to keep her magic under control under the current master's orders when he was brought news of her. Her voice no longer made a sound.
That guild?
Fairy Tail.

[Name] made friends with a boy similar to her age. He was one of the first to approach her, since his grandfather had told him to.
Before Laxus' father was excommunicated, he was a kind boy and insisted on being friends with the girl who rarely made herself noticed. She didn't, or rather couldn't, speak to anyone.
[Name] was afraid of her own power. She could hear things that other people couldn't. She could hear all their wishes, their desires, no matter how big or small. Though she grew closer to Laxus, she grew wary of his father, Ivan.
She believed that what she heard was wrong, so she thought nothing of it. After all, she was only a child.
She grew up waking up to nightmares every night, sweating and terrified. Every morning, when she glanced outside at the daylight, she relived the terror of being an experiment.
She wakes up every morning to fear the day that was to come, thinking that she could be injected with the poison again, that she would be forced into the machine once more, that more cuts would be made on her skin.
She was afraid to hear the screams of horror in the hallways.
But then, she would remember that she is safe. That she is in Fairy Tail, where she was a person. She was herself and not a mere experiment.
Still, even with that assurance, she stayed quiet and in the shadows, just like she had done in that nightmare of a place. She did nothing to raise attention to herself.
She was haunted by the fragments of her past.
The past of a person affects their personality and affects who they are in the present and who they will be in the future. It can cause a person to change, for better or worse, no one knows.
For the price of magic, she paid a toll with her voice. She was never meant to be a mage, never born with the magic potential that some others have, but it jus happened for a price. She wouldn't have changed her decision for the world.
To pay a voice in return for the freedom of so many others.
In the spilt second between the explosion and her gaining magical abilities, [Name] heard it. They still haunt her mind today. She heard hundreds of voices. All of them wished to die. They prayed for death.
After a few months, [Name] felt as though she could no longer ignore her instinct and she decided to concentrate on Ivan's wish, making sure that she did not accidentally grant it.
She heard his evil mind. His evil intentions and darkest desire.
Immediately, she informed Makorov, who took action to check if what she heard were correct. Within months, Ivan was banished and Laxus, as a teen showed changes for the worse because of his father's excommunication.
[Name] stayed by Laxus' side, trying to silently help him just as he had done to her, but it was no use. His eagerness to prove himself as his own person did no help whatsoever.
In his late teens, Laxus pushed his own girlfriend away as he started forming his own plans. [Name] was concerned. Very concerned for the future as she warned Makarov once again.
Laxus wanted to be seen as himself, not as Makarov's grandson. He wanted power. His wish was to be acknowledged.
His past as the weak child, whose father planted a dragon lacrima in, still haunted him slightly. He did not want to be seen as weak by anyone.
Fragments of his past haunt him as well, though he refuses to admit it.
[Name] watched from the shadows as the Battle of Fairy Tail occurred. She was very hesitant to show herself, but once Thunder Palace was activated, she found that she could no longer stay silent like she always did.
[Name] closed her eyes, listening for a wish to help. Natsu wants to fight Laxus in order to stop him.
She silently walked towards the door of the guild, making sure to stay in their blind spots. Her hand easily passed through the barrier that Freed had placed up so she retracted it, placing it on the doors.
As she concentrated on her magic power, she focused on granting Natsu's wish. In order to grant it, this barrier would need to disappear. Within moments, it shattered, gaining the attention of Levy, Natsu and Gajeel.
"[Name]! You've done it!" Levy said, a relieved smile on her face. [Name] looked away quickly, disappearing from view once again as she went to the infirmary. Not liking the attention.
The two dragon slayers ran out of the guild, heading their separate ways. Both ready to take on Laxus.

Later that day, [Name] watched from beside the door of the infirmary as Laxus entered the guild. She stepped out from the shadows, making him sense her presence.
She made a small beckon towards the door beside her, as she walked inside the room.
"He's coming?" Makarov asked the girl, who he trusted deeply. She nodded a little, standing in the corner quietly.
Well, it's not as though she could be very loud. Because of her personality and physical (magical) restraints.
She listened quietly as Makarov excommunicated Laxus, just as he had done so many years ago to his son. But she knew that Laxus was different to Ivan.
Their goals were completely different. Their hearts completely different. Laxus is his own person.
And that is what will bring him back to Fairy Tail.
[Name] looked down at her own hands, remember the fragment of her past that she longed to forget.
She also remembered the parts of her childhood that she wouldn't ever let disappear. The boy that helped her when she came to Fairy Tail.
They had promised to be together, well no, it was Laxus who had promised that when they were children. She had been a blushing mess.
"You want to go after him?" Makarov asked, tears still running down his face.
[Name] looked up, nodding curtly, averting her eyes. There was a long silence before the older man had replied.
"Look after him for me..."
[Name] couldn't speak, but she stepped forward, kneeling down to hug him. It was as though Makarov understood her silent answer as he let the girl go without any more words.
Always. That was her answer.
[Name] found Laxus as he talked to the Thunder Legion, who were all protesting about his situation. Laxus turned around upon noticing her presence.
This caused Freed, Bickslow and Evergreen to look at the girl too, making her shift uncomfortably and hide slightly behind Laxus.
"What are you doing here?" Laxus asked, thinking that she wanted nothing to do with him. He sighed and turned around to leave. "Whatever. Take care of yourselves"
"Laxus!"
"Don't screw around like this! What about us?!"
[Name] looked down, following him without any of the Thunder Legion noticing. [Name] reached out her hand, hesitating slightly before she pulled at his coat when they were far enough.
"What is it?" He asked, turning around to face her. [Name] turned away slightly, taking out a notepad and writing what she wanted down.
'I'm coming with you'
"No you're not"
'Yes I am and I will' [Name] scribbled down, determined. 'Don't go breaking your promise on me'
"That was in the past. Doesn't matter anymore so just forget it. You want nothing to do with me"
'Just because it's in the past doesn't mean that it doesn't matter' [Name] looked at him earnestly, meaning every word that she said.
He only wished for the best of the guild, nothing more. All he wanted was to improve it. She knew that.
"Fine" Laxus looked away as he spoke in a softer voice. "Come with me if you want"
[Name] smiled slightly as she followed him. She was hesitant to trust anyone, hesitant to speak her mind, but Laxus was there for her when they were children.
She trusts him dearly and not even the fragments of her horrible past could ruin that trust.
