Contrary to popular (Jooheon's) belief, I didn't type out a reply at unholy speeds and anxiously throw my phone aside as I yelled into a pillow out of anxiety. Instead, I started at the screen, inciting his concern.
"Kyung?" He asked and I looked at him. "What's wrong?"
"No, nothing it's just," I sighed. "he texts like Soonyoung. That's all."
"Oh..-"
"No, I'm moving on, remember? I'm moving on," I fell back on the bed. "moving on."
With a fierce, determined glare, I typed out a reply.

"All good?" Jooheon asked again and I nodded. "Okay good, I have to go because my Dad apparently wants to lecture me on why I am always at other people's houses and never invite them over. Do you remember what happened last time you went there? Your future children were in jeopardy."
It was true; Jooheon's sister was down with chicken pox that day, and because we felt a bad we agreed to stay with her and she suggested a tea party. Meanwhile preparing the tea, a whole litre of freshly boiled water had fallen on my thighs as a result of her dropping the kettle on me.
The thought alone of the following weeks made me shiver. "Yes."
"Precisely," He pursed his lips. "see you tomorrow?"
"Of course." I nodded as he left my room, loudly yelling his goodbyes to the rest of my family before the front door slammed shut.
I laid back on my bed, placing my feet against the wall.
I'm not good at these things, by the way. I tell you now that I'm very awkward lmao

From there I let the conversation die out for a while, giving myself the advantage of being able to pick it up later on since he was last to reply, however I just couldn't bring myself to wipe the small smile I had plastered on, to a point even my family noticed.
Jaeun chuckled. "Dinner's good, huh Changkyun?"
"Sorry?"
"You're fully cheesing at the plate." Youngjae commented.
"I noticed too, you seem to be having a great day, huh?" Dad asked, amused.
I nodded. "Yeah. I don't ache as much anymore."
"Now, this is completely out of line. I'm booking a meeting with your principal and Minjae's parents because targeted abuse-"
"His parents don't care, plus it isn't targeted, I fought back." And the high came crashing down just like that, a painful reminder of my regular life.
She went on to ramble about how this isn't the first time Minjae had harassed me before, and she wasn't wrong, but it reminded me of when Soonyoung was around, since he was the only one who could properly put him back in his place. Not that Jooheon doesn't set him straight either; he's just become more audacious then before ever since he went.
She didn't stop until the sound of my chair harshly scraping against the kitchen floor and I stood up. The four of them, beady eyed, stared at me. "I'm not hungry anymore."
It wasn't until I got back up to my room that I managed to hear them speaking, but it didn't last long, as I put in my earphones and just tuned them out.

I watched out of the corner of my eye as Hyungwon peered around the doorframe, then fully entered the living room, placing his feet up on the coffee table and a mug of tea balancing on his hip as one hand held biscuits and the other the TV remote. He switched to a music show, dropping the remote for his phone as he dunked a biscuit in the tea. I chuckled, eyes returning to the screen of my laptop.
"How was your day out?" He asked nonchalantly, bringing the mug to his lips.
"It was okay, I forgot my phone at home but that's fine," I sighed. "is your Mom okay? Did she nag too much?"
"Shockingly no, she came to tell me she met somebody and they were going to elope."
"Wow," I whistled. "everybody's tying the knot."
He suddenly leaned forward, eager for information. "Who's next?"
"A friend of mine, Eunho, is getting married in a few weeks and actually asked me to be the photographer." I explained, running a hand through my hair.
"You don't sound thrilled."
"Well, I'm not exactly upset about it - she was my girlfriend in college and the fact that she's moved on to the point she's engaged and with her whole life planned, and I'm here...well, after the cheating fiasco in Busan, I'm not sure how to describe my life," I said. "more like I'm being dragged through it rather than picking which path to walk."
"Aren't you going to have a spectacular story to tell your kids when you have them?" there was a foreign register in his voice; empathy. "you can have your life sorted at 23, you can have it sorted at 43, it doesn't make life any less interesting. Look at me - all my friends are doctors, lawyers and whatnot yet here I am, I work at a supermarket, am ploughing through an engineering degree but have my mind set on modelling yet here I am. I'm not saying it won't happen, because let's face it - I look bomb - but, I'm also not stressing about it. Let life run it's course, Yoo Kihyun."
I tore my eyes from the laptop and gave Chae Hyungwon a good look. Beneath his intimidating good looks and curious personality, he hid a wise and kind person, with a love for rich tea biscuits. He sighed. "Maybe I should become an idol. I might get casted on the street or something."
I laughed. "Please."
"Hey! Don't laugh," he coupdnt help but smile. "serendipity is a funny thing."
I looked aside at my buzzing phone, a message from Changkyun appearing on the screen. I grinned. "Tell me about it."
