"Oh my god." Your voice wasn't more than a whisper but your heart was racing in your chest uncontrollably while stared at the small stick in your trembling hands. You couldn't believe what you saw. No, this couldn't be, that was impossible.
You swallowed hard and let yourself sink on the couch. Your legs had gotten weak over the news you had to process now. The pregnancy test you had just taken told you that you were pregnant. But this couldn't be.
The only man you've had sex with during the last two years was Elijah Mikaelson. And Elijah was a vampire. So...this couldn't be right. Determined, you got up from the couch again and left the apartment some minutes later. You needed to buy more tests. Maybe this one was broken and therefore couldn't show you a right result.
On your way to the closest pharmacy or supermarket, you hoped to not meet Elijah or any of his siblings. They would all sense your trouble and you couldn't tell them what was going on with you. Not yet.
Quickly you were back at home and ran into the bathroom to take the three tests you had bought. The first one had to be wrong. You couldn't be pregnant. But all your hopes got shattered when you looked at the other three tests. Every single one of them had a positive sign.
Sighing, you sank down on the toilet lid. Okay, now there was no doubt. You were pregnant. From a vampire. How the hell was that possible? Something like that hadn't happened yet as far as you knew and only the thought of it scared you more than you could have ever imagined.
Helpless, you remained sitting there for a while; in the end, you couldn't figure out for how long you had been just staring into space, trying to get your running thoughts in order. When your phone suddenly started to ring, you winced and got pulled out of your thoughts.
It was Elijah. Of course. You bit your lips while you stared at the name blinking on your display. If you wouldn't answer, Elijah would stand at your front door in ten minutes, you were certain. So, you eventually answered his call.
"Hey, Elijah", you said and tried to sound as always.
"Hey, darling", you could hear your boyfriend's voice from the other side of the line. "What are you doing?", he asked.
"I'm...nothing", you stammered while your heart started to beat fast in your chest again. You stood up from the toilet lid and left the bathroom. You couldn't stay in there anymore.
"You alright?"
You held back a sigh at Elijah's words. Of course, he sensed that something was bothering you. But you couldn't tell him on the phone. So, you lied. "Yeah, I'm alright. What's the matter?"
„Oh, nothing special. We just haven't seen each other in three days and...I'm missing you", he quietly said and you couldn't help but smile. He missed you. Although you've been a couple for a bit more than two years, it still warmed your heart when he said things like that.
And you realized, you had to tell him. Not tomorrow, not the day after, no. You had to tell him now. You took a deep breath, which he heard, of course. "Y/N, what's the matter?", he asked and sounded as if he wouldn't want to hear any excuses.
"Elijah, I...can we meet? We need to talk", you whispered.
"Of course. You want to come over?"
Yes, you wanted. And twenty minutes later, you stood in front of the huge Mikaelson mansion. Your heart felt as if it would jump out of your chest at any minute. You were so nervous. What would he say? Would he even believe you? What if he didn't and be angry because he'd think you'd lie? A thousand thoughts were running through your head.
With a shaking hand, you knocked at the wooden door and it opened almost immediately. Elijah was standing there and pulled you into an embrace as soon as you entered the house. "Hey", he said with a smile before he kissed you passionately.
"Hey", you breathed when you parted again. It felt good to see him and to be held by him. You felt safe whenever you were with Elijah.
"So, and now...what's the matter with you?", he asked straightforwardly. You took his hand and he followed you into the huge living room. You couldn't tell him just right next to the front door.
When you sat on the couch, you took some more deep breaths before you finally started to talk. "Elijah, there's...something. And...it's impossible, it can't be, I don't know how it happened", you rambled and he frowned at you, not quite understand what the hell you were trying to tell him.
"Y/N...I don't understand", he interrupted you at some point and groaning, you buried your head in your hands. When you felt a hand on your shoulder, you looked up again.
"Start all over", Elijah suggested, a slight smile on his face.
"Alright. Elijah, I'm...I'm pregnant." Boom. Now it was out. And Elijah's face literally dropped.
"What?"
You could see the pain in his face. Of course, he was thinking that you had cheated on him. But he was wrong. You hurried to take his hand. "Elijah, I haven't cheated on you!", you exclaimed although you weren't sure that he'd believe you.
"But...you must have", he murmured, "I...I can't..." Now it was him who stammered and couldn't find the words. He had stood up from the couch and was now pacing through the living room while you watched him. He was clearly stirred up.
"I didn't, Elijah. I know it's impossible. I couldn't believe it myself and took at least three or four pregnancy tests. They all were positive", you explained and couldn't believe how calm you felt in that moment. Your pregnancy was something you just couldn't change. Why keep freaking out about it? That wouldn't help anybody.
"Freya!", Elijah suddenly shouted and you winced at his outburst. Not long until his older sister appeared; a confused look on her face.
"What's the matter?", she asked before she saw you sitting there. "Oh, hi Y/N." She gave you a smile.
"Hi, Freya."
"Alright, brother. Why are you shouting through the whole house? Is someone trying to kill us again?" She folded her arms in front of her chest.
Elijah shook his head. "You're...you're a witch. I need you to tell me if Y/N is telling the truth", he said and it was only now when Freya realized how concerned and unsure Elijah was.
"What truth?", she asked.
"I'm...I'm pregnant", you threw in.
Freya's eyes widened. She obviously couldn't believe what she was hearing. "You're pregnant? From whom?"
You pointed at Elijah.
"No way!", Freya exclaimed and now you couldn't help but roll your eyes at the siblings.
"Do some magic stuff or something to prove that I'm not lying!", you said, almost sounding desperately. And then Freya nodded and hurried back to her room to get some things.

Almost an hour later, Freya was almost done with her charm. Klaus, Rebekah and Kol had joined you and were all curious to find out what was going on. None of them could believe that you were actually pregnant from Elijah. No vampire could procreate and they all thought that you had been cheating on him. You just hoped Freya could prove that you were telling the truth. You didn't know what to do if she couldn't.
"Oh, my god", Freya whispered suddenly and caused you all to look at her. Her eyes wandered from you to Elijah and then back to you, stopping at your stomach.
"Is it...is it true?", Elijah quietly asked. Freya nodded.
"Oh, my god", Elijah whispered.
"What the fuck?", Kol exclaimed.
"How the hell can this be?", Klaus said in disbelief.
Only Rebekah kept quiet, before she stepped towards you and threw her arms around your neck. "I don't know how this happened but I can't wait to be an aunt", she whispered into your ear and you couldn't help but smile at her.
"Freya, tell me how this could happen!", Elijah demanded but his sister just shrugged.
"I...I don't know. The only thing I can tell you is that Y/N is pregnant with your child", she said, her voice slightly shaking after the spell she had just used and the news you all had gotten.
You looked over to Elijah. You wanted him to come and hug you. You wanted him to tell you that everything will turn out alright. And after some minutes, he finally moved and came closer again. Hesitantly, he reached out a hand and placed it on your stomach.
"I can hear a heartbeat", Elijah whispered and a slight smile started to form on his lips.
"He's right. Me too", Kol murmured. Since you weren't a vampire, you couldn't hear anything. But the look on Elijah's and his sibling's faces told you that they were all fascinated by what they were hearing.
And then, before you could have said or done anything, Elijah had pulled you into an embrace. "I can't believe this is happening", he whispered and you just nodded. You were too overwhelmed to say anything. "And I promise you, no matter what, I'm going to protect you and our baby." He gently kissed you and now you finally felt relief. Elijah believed you. And although none of you had an idea how this could have happened, you knew this baby would grow up in a loving family.
