*Song- Shine on you crazy diamond Pt 1, Pink Floyd.

Definitely Thanatos' favourite song... ;3
He's an old rock fan, no doubt.

"Love- why was such a small word so heavy..."

Under a Navy Sky

I threw the soft, wool blanket on the couch and gave Thanatos a smile; "What would you like to drink? My dad has some great red wines, if you'd like some?"

Thanatos grinned up at me lazily- he looked more relaxed than I'd ever seen him before.

"Will you join me?"

I nodded and pointed to a small wine fridge in the corner by the bar; "Have a look there and pick anyone you want. I'm going to go fetch the popcorn; it should be done by now."

I turned to head to the kitchen, but Thanatos grabbed my hand and placed a lingering kiss on my lips. I smiled into his touch.

"Hurry."

My smile was big and full of giddiness as I walked over to the stove. The popcorn was just done popping so I removed the pot and shook the popcorn into a bowl. My mother entered the kitchen from the other side, busy fixing her earring.

"You two going to be alright tonight?" My mom asked as she stole a few kernels.

I nodded my head and grabbed the salt; "Yeah, we'll be fine, don't worry."

"Oh, I'm not, it's your father." My mom leaned against the counter; her smile knowing, "He doesn't like leaving you here alone with a boy he's just met."

I rolled my eyes; "Dad needs to realise that I'm not a teenager anymore; well, technically, I am still, but I've never acted like one. He trusts me to make the right decisions, doesn't he?"

"Of course, honey, but you need to understand that Thane is quite a bit older than you. And it's not like we were prepared for him. I thought you were bringing a girl your age home to visit."

I sighed, but I understood her point; "I'm sorry, I suppose it slipped my mind."

My mom chuckled; "Ah-huh, sure..."

I shot her a questioning look; my eyebrows rose up to form a crease on my forehead, but she merely smiled at me innocently.

"Come now, honey. I can see the way you two look at each other, and it's pretty obvious why you brought him home- you want us to meet him, see what he's like."

My hands froze over the salt shaker; "No, it's not like that! We're just friends."

"Aurora, relax! I'm happy for you. He seems genuinely smitten with you." My mom brushed my hand with hers; "And he's got my vote. Where did you find him? He looks like a model! And he's smart!"

I laughed- there was no point in hiding it from her. She knew me all too well...

I blushed; "I guess it was... fate." I cringed. I'm glad they didn't know that for the first few weeks that I'd known Thanatos he'd tried to exterminate me.

I'm glad that's over with...

My mother giggled. She was always more youthful than me in many ways.

"Well, keep a tight grip on him; he's a 'once-in-a-lifetime' kind of guy."

More like a 'once-in-an-every-thousand-lifetimes' guy...

I laughed and tried not to blush too much as my mom kissed my cheek; "Alright, I can hear your dad grumbling down the stairs. We're off- have fun," My mom adjusted her blazer, but before she turned to leave she pointed a finger at me; "And behave. I don't want any grandchildren yet..."

I laughed and shooed her out of the kitchen; "Go, before dad's colleagues drink all the good whiskey. You know he hates that."

She laughed and nearly ran into my father as he came down the stairs, tugging at his tie. He looked irritated; "Aurora's right- and I'll need whiskey to get through this damn dinner. I hate Anderson's functions."

My mom fixed his tie just as Thanatos entered the kitchen with a bottle of red wine. He smiled politely; "Looking dapper, sir."

My dad laughed; "I see you have 2008 Shiraz there." He pointed to the bottle in Thanatos' hand. "Good choice... Aurora, get Thane a glass."

"No worries, Aurora..." Thanatos said; "Just point me in the right direction."

I smiled and saw my parents share an impressed look; "There are some at the bar by the wine fridge."

"I'll get you one too." Thanatos turned to them and nodded his head; "I hope you enjoy the dinner, it probably won't live up to your cooking, Denise, but at least the whiskey's for free. Have fun!"

My dad and mom laughed and greeted him. They each gave me a quick peck and rushed out to the garage. I heard the garage-doors open as I shook the bowl of popcorn, making sure all the salt didn't just stay on the top pieces.

A wine cork popped.

Were we going to be like two, horny teenagers and make out on the couch?

Gods, I hope so...

But then again, things with Thanatos were always a bit different and I enjoyed his unpredictability.

I walked into the lounge to find him seated on the deep couch with a glass of wine in his hand. His eyes were back to red; almost the same dark shade as the wine he held as I turned off the lights. The television's glare bathed the room in a white glow.

"I never understood the appeal of these things." Thanatos waved at the large television that hung from the wall. I smiled; "I guess you don't like movies either."

"I've never watched one..."

I gasped softly; "Nooo... That's a sin, Thanatos."

He grinned and handed me my glass of wine as I sat down next to him and covered us with the blanket. I thanked him and took a small sip- rich and light.

"So what's this 'movie' called?"

"You sound like someone's grandfather." I chuckled and navigated with the remote to where the movie was saved on my USB-stick.

"I'm far too old to be anyone's grandfather..." Thanatos muttered as he twirled his glass, eyeing the red liquid as it sloshed around. I snorted; "The movie is called 'Don't tell'."

"Don't tell what?"

"No, that's the title. Just 'Don't tell'."

Thanatos scoffed; "Stupid."

I rolled my eyes; "Well, you're going to watch it whether you want to or not- I already made popcorn."

He sighed and put down his glass on the table next to him. I eyed his clothes- he was still in his jeans, shirt and boots from this morning. I, however, was dressed down in my pyjama pants and a tank top.

"Won't you be a bit uncomfortable in those all night?"

Thanatos smirked; "Are you trying to get me to undress?"

"Tsk... Come on, let's go get you some other human clothes. I'm sure Opis packed some comfortable clothing for you."

I dragged him upstairs and rummaged through his bag. After several attempts at getting him to wear a pair of comfortable, joggers pants, I was more than tired off him rolling his eyes at the snug piece of clothing. So I changed tactics.

"I'm a god; I am not wearing something that's cuffed at the bottom!"

"For fuck's sakes..." I mumbled and tried a new route. I pushed up against him and placed my hand on his crotch. Thanatos immediately tensed up and looked down at me with interested and wide eyes.

I made my voice innocent, the way he liked it; "But it's so hard to feel you through these jeans... Those pants are cotton and much softer."

Thanatos grabbed the pants from my hand; "I'll be right back."

He rushed to the bathroom, leaving me with a wide smirk.

"I'm heading downstairs..." I shouted as I left the room and hurried back to the bowl of popcorn- my other love.

Thanatos joined me a few seconds later; his new pants on and barefoot. I stifled a smile. He looked so normal it was actually comical. Here, in front of me, stood a four-thousand-year old god who rules over death- in tracksuit pants.

Thanatos noticed my grin; "Shut up, woman. Now start this damn movie and let's get it over with."

I hid my smile with my glass and pressed play as Thanatos scooted in next to me on the couch. He covered himself with the blanket and swung an arm around my shoulder to press me into his chest. I snuggled into him.

The movie started with an ominous theme and a dark, spooky scene involving two friends camping in the woods.

"Ugh," I mumbled; "Why is it always the woods?"

Somewhere along the lines a serial killer popped out from the bushes and sliced them to bits. Thanatos flicked his tongue in annoyance; "Blood doesn't splatter like that."

I pretended not to hear.

Kind of forgot he knows just about everything about killing...

Why is that... arousing? He's dangerous, that's why.

The intro was done, and now the lead character was shown- a typical pretty, university student with no idea her life was about to become a complete cliché. I prayed the first movie Thanatos was going to watch at least wouldn't be too bad, but thus far it didn't look too promising.

As time passed, the movie became more of a comedy than a horror with Thanatos and I shouting at the television, trying to somehow make sense of the character's actions.

"Good gods, why are you running towards the creepy shadow!" Thanatos said loudly; "Get the fuck away, girl."

I laughed and popped some popcorn into my mouth. Thanatos did the same; "This stuff isn't too bad. I should tell Opis to get some..."

I grinned, but the movie caught my eye again; "What? How on earth did that knock to the head make her pass out? Come on!"

"This is getting ridiculous- you'd think after five murders the police would start trying to do something other than arriving conveniently right after the murderer runs off."

I shook my head; "Just watch-that girl is going to sleep with him and then discover that he's actually the serial killer everyone's been warning her about. This is like a soap opera..."

And that's exactly what happened. Minutes later- after a very unnecessary sex-scene; the serial killer sliced her head off.

We snorted in unison. Thanatos eyes were glued to the television as he took a handful of popcorn; "By the amount of times that guy has licked his knife the forensic team could've easily have found his saliva on the bodies..."

I laughed; leave it to Thanatos to turn something morbid into pure comedy.

The movie dragged on, and by the end we already knew exactly how the lead girl was going to kill the murderer and escape his hell-hole. We even tried to cheer her on as she did the silliest things while trying to get away. She did it all- tripped, ran to the basement, knocked over something when she was trying to sneak around...

By the end Thanatos and I had our heads in our hands.

The credits rolled and I rolled my eyes.

"Thank the heavens..." Thanatos said as he sat back; "That was..."

"Shit." I stood up from the couch and grabbed our glasses to pour us the last of the bottle. Thanatos stood up to stretch his legs and arms. I eyed the toned skin I saw as his shirt lifted- maybe now we could make out like horny teenagers?

We were both so engrossed in the movie that we didn't even think about that. I did have my legs up on his lap and he did have his arm around me, but other than that there was no hanky-panky.

I know I promised my mom we'd behave, but... ahem... It's Thanatos; come on.

"Thanks." Thanatos took his newly filled glass from the table.

"Okay, so I admit, that was really bad, but," I waved my hand; "there are much better movies. Like Silence of the Lambs! I think you'd really enjoy that one! Or even a good series, like Blackadder? Or what about Lord of the rings!"

Thanatos smirked and took a sip of his drink; "So long as the lead doesn't sound like she's about to climax every time she gets a fright."

I choked on my wine as I laughed loudly. Thanatos snickered and hit me on my back to ease the coughing.

"So not Twilight then..." I muttered. Thanatos led me back to the couch and sat me down next to him.

"What's playing now?" He asked as he eyed the wide screen.

"Oh, it's just on some channel on cable."

He furrowed his brows; "What's the point of movies if there are constant shows playing all day?"

I smiled and shook my head; "I guess it's just a human thing..."

He huffed and took a sip from his glass. I changed the channel to some late night comedy show and cuddled up to him. I smiled, feeling a complete sense of calm. His familiar scent surrounded me in a comforting embrace.

Thanatos' hand moved up to hold mine; his thumb soothingly brushing against the back of my hand. I felt a current rush through me, his touch leaving a trail of fire along my skin. He lowered his lips to my earlobe and whispered in a husky tone; "How long before your parents get home?"

I shivered and eyed the clock; "We have about ten minutes, maybe a little more..."

"That's all I need." Thanatos hauled my body around and shoved himself onto me with all his weight. I groaned as his heavy build crushed me into the plush couch.

I planted my lips firmly against his and he responded with an eager tongue. My fingers automatically rushed towards his hair, sweeping through it with ease as his arms wrapped around my shoulders and pressed down.

I felt like I was being smothered- my view entirely taken over by him.

I opened my legs so that he could make himself comfortable in between them; his arousal unmistakable in the cotton joggers. Our bare feet rubbed together while our hips moved with a parallel purpose.

I whimpered his name as he kissed down my jaw. Thanatos tilted my head to the side to get easier access to my neck. I closed my eyes and bit my lip as his wet tongue licked a hot path down my throat. He grumbled like a lion.

I was in ecstasy from his tongue dancing across my skin. My hands were still playing with his thick hair as I slowly opened my eyes.

My gaze met two burning orbs.

"AH!"

I jumped towards Thanatos and he quickly covered me in his arms, his eyes wide and his fangs ready to cut, but as soon as the initial shock wore off, we both slumped in exasperation.

Thanatos' shadow floated next to the couch with confused eyes.

Thanatos sighed; "What is it?"

I blushed, even though the shadow had no idea what we were doing. It bobbled its head and chirped like a bird. Thanatos shook his head slowly- his expression reminding me of when a father is talking to his small child.

"No, there's no work for the day- for a few day's actually. You can go with one of the others if you wish."

Thanatos shadow looked disappointed, but nodded its head. I felt a pang of pity. It turned to leave, probably to go hunt, but I called it back and grabbed the last pieces of popcorn.

"Here- open." I pointed to its hand. The shadow opened his palm eagerly, his eyes full of delight. I placed them in its open hand and patted its head, causing the dark entity to purr with happiness. It gobbled up the kernels and smiled its long, sharp toothy-grin.

"You're welcome."

"Come back tomorrow..." Thanatos said a little less annoyed; "I might have some errands for you."

His shadow perked up and chirped goodbye as it rushed up and faded through the ceiling. I stared after it, my eyes lingering where it had disappeared from.

"You need to stop feeding him junk." Thanatos said curtly.

"At least it feels loved with me; maybe you should be less snappy with it."

Thanatos lifted an eyebrow; "He's just me overemphasised and in the form of a magical entity; he was given as a gift by my mother to help me in my duties."

"It may be you in some ways, but it's still a living being. I know you care for it, but you're treating it the same way you treat yourself."

Thanatos furrowed his brows; "What do you mean?"

I shrugged and tried to avoid his sudden intense gaze; "You don't give yourself any slack, and you act cold and cruel."

"You're one to talk- if anyone is hard on themselves, it's you."

I sighed and turned to him; "I'm not trying to attack you. All I'm saying is that you should try to be a little nicer to yourself; you don't deserve all this harsh criticism all the time."

Thanatos looked angry as he turned away from me and fixed his eyes back onto the television. He didn't reply. I pursed my lips and looked up at him with worry.

"Thanatos?"

He ignored me and instead glowered at the television.

Great. This is not how I wanted the night to go...

But I wanted to know more- I wanted him to open up.

I scooted closer and stroked his stubble with my fingertips; "Is it because your mother used to have high expectations of you?"

The room suddenly dropped to an icy temperature as he slowly turned his head to stare at me in cold disbelief. I bit my tongue- a little too late.

"Sorry," I said as his powerful gaze bore a hole through me; "I didn't mean to pry. It's just..." My words faltered.

Thanatos kept his guarded eyes on my face. I tried again; "It's just that I want to know more about you. More than just stuff like you like red wine, travelling, you like the colour red or that you have a secret love for the Bee Gees."

Thanatos couldn't help but snort. I tried to keep the smile from my face, but it was a feeble attempt; "I want to know why you like red, who introduced you to the Bee Gees," I couldn't help but laugh a little as I said it, "... and what's your favourite place to visit and why?"

Thanatos stare had changed from anger to adoration, and I felt his hand glide over my arm as he spoke softly, putting me in a trance, "I love red because it's passion- good and bad. Hypnos actually introduced me to the Bee Gees back when they'd just started; we went to a concert in London back in 1968. And," He moved his face up to mine and his voice dropped to a low, whisper; "Here. I love being here- because you're here."

My heart stilled.

I smiled with love as Thanatos leaned in to plant a small kiss on my lips. He then cleared his throat softly and looked down with a slight tint of discomfort in his eye. I raised a brow expectantly.

"And yes- my mother wasn't the... kindest woman."

I didn't think my heart could take more love for a single man, but I was clearly wrong. It felt like it was going to burst. I wrapped my arms around Thanatos and nuzzled my nose against his hair, but Thanatos jolted upright and fixed me with a steady gaze; "Don't get me wrong- I don't need you sympathy. Greek gods aren't exactly known for their parenting skills. I frankly don't like my mother very much, so don't feel like I'm some injured deer who needs to be handled with care."

His manhood clearly took a knock there, so I just nodded and smiled at him. I was all too happy that he'd finally opened up slightly about himself.

It's a process; it'll get easier for him...

"What about you?" He asked with a careful, curious tone. I furrowed my brows and smiled; "What do you mean?"

Thanatos rolled his eyes; "Why are you so hard on yourself? Why do you shut down as soon as someone tries to ask you what you're thinking, or feeling?"

I automatically shut down.

But up until he'd just mentioned it, I'd never noticed it. I lowered my eyes and thought of a good reason, but nothing came to mind. I didn't have a hard childhood- I was loved, I had friends and I did well.

Why was I so closed off then?

"I... I don't know." It was the truth.

Thanatos stared at me for a while, but then he nodded his head; "I understand. We're the same, in that respect, but there is something you're not telling me."

I fiddled my thumbs and kept my eyes down; "I sometimes feel like I need to constantly prove myself." It felt good saying it. "But as for shutting down... I don't really know. I just... I suppose it's because I think that if I focus too much on my own feelings they'll... slow me down."

The room was silent.

My mind raced with all the different ways he'd laugh at me and tease me, but when I looked up into his eyes, they were filled with sorrow. My forehead creased.

"What's the matter?"

"You shouldn't have to feel that way at all, Aurora. You need to appreciate yourself more. Look at all the things you've accomplished in your short life. You're not a machine, you know."

I smiled sadly; "Neither are you."

Thanatos chuckled; "Touché."

I watched as his hand travelled up my arm and cupped my cheek. I closed my eyes and leaned into his palm while his other hand intertwined with mine. I leaned my head against his shoulder, enjoying the steady drum of his heart.

A soft peck landed on my hair, and then another.

"Thanatos..." My voice sounded strange.

He mumbled 'yes?' into my hair. I felt my heart race and the skin on my arms burnt with angst.

"I... um..."

Was going to say it? Could I even say it?

Love- why was such a small word so heavy.

"I lov-"

"We're home!"

My mother's voice broke like glass through the halls of the house.

I shot up and away from Thanatos and scooted to the end of the couch. My parents rounded the corner and I greeted them with a wide, nervous smile; "Hey... How was dinner?"

"Not too bad, and how was your movie? Scary enough?"

My father laughed and eyed Thanatos from the corner of his eye. Thanatos looked pale; "By the looks of it, Thane is still shaken. Must've been a real shocker!"

I laughed nervously and Thanatos merely smiled tightly; "Indeed, sir... A real shock."

Oh, please God, let the couch come alive and swallow me into an abyss!

"Well, we're off to bed." My father greeted us both and headed up the stairs. My mother followed behind and soon Thanatos and I were alone again and I wanted to crawl into a ball and stuff my face in between the pillows.

Now would be a great time for him to laugh manically and rip out his scythe.

I stood up slowly and awkwardly gestured to the stairs; "So I think it's time for bed..."

Thanatos, who still looked dazed, stood up and nodded slowly.

We silently made our way up to the first floor and Thanatos stopped at my bedroom door. He opened it and gestured for me to go in. I did as he asked and turned to wish him 'goodnight', but suddenly my mouth was covered with his and the world blew away.

His kiss was hard and desperate. I had to clutch onto his shirt to keep myself upright as his lips kept coming- not letting up in their forcefulness. His hands were forcing my face onto his, nearly pulling my hair out from my scalp as he tugged me inhumanly close.

He was kissing me like he'd never see me ever again- and that made me so nervous beyond belief. So I kissed back.

Finally, his lips left mine, but he kept them mere inches away as he spoke with a low voice, filled with desperate affection; "Sleep well, my angel. I'll miss you."

I nodded and tried to find my voice; "You too. Goodnight."

And then he was gone, like a phantom.

Like a blue flame, he left me feeling cold and hot; my body unsure of what to think.

I knew he knew what I'd wanted to say, but the question was- did he want me to say it?
