『 Secret 』

[Name] [Surname] can be considered to be quite a peculiar person. On the surface, she seems to be a wonderful and beautiful girl who had a strong magic power.

But anyone who took a proper look at her would see a lonely and cold girl who never showed genuine happiness. She would always do her best to avoid others and prefers the company of her books over anything else.

No one knew who she was despite her popularity. Not even the greatest reporter could manage to dig out the secrets of how she became the way she was.

She lived in a world entirely of her own and was a mystery to all.

[Name] moved around quite a lot and tended to avoid towns where other mages resided. She had been staying in this town for well over a month now.

"How was your trip dear?" The landlady asked kindly when the girl walked past.

"It went quite well," [Name] replied with a polite smile plastered on her face. "And I plan to leave for a long time, here's this week's rent."

The girl set a sack of jewels in front of the landlady before heading up towards her room to fetch her belongings. It was almost abnormally neat, as though a ghost had used the room.

Without wasting any more time, she picked up the small satchel and swung it over her shoulder. It was quite difficult to believe that she had been staying in this spotless room for over a month.

As [Name] took the small path out of town, she pulled the hood of her cloak up to cover her face. However, it didn't really matter anyway since people seemed to recognise her even with it on.

With her mysterious, powerful magic and aloof personality, people seemed to be drawn to know her. Unwanted paragraphs about her would be on the front pages of Sorcerer Weekly, making it a nuisance for her.

Talking with a client was already pretty bad for her but a nosy one who constantly pried about her past and personality irritated her to no extent. She hated them more than anything but as a recognised independent mage, she had to keep her clients happy to earn money.

When [Name] finally reached the client's house, she was hesitant about working with other people. It was just that she had an issue trusting others.

When the door opened, she was invited inside to sit on the couch. The client had asked her to wait and she had nodded politely with a fake smile.

She watched him leave to prepare cups of tea and opened up her satchel. She dug into it and eventually pulled out a rather large book. She opened the book to the page where she last read.

But the door opened soon afterwards, making it so that she was only able to read a few pages. [Name] reluctantly looked up from her book to glance at the newcomers.

They all had one thing in common. They were from the renowned guild of creating chaos — Fairy Tail.

"If it isn't too much trouble Miss [Name]. I understand that your condition, but I would appreciate it if--" the client started to speak but [Name] was a step ahead, already knowing what he was about to say.

"It's perfectly fine," she lied through her smile, something that she was used to. He didn't have to phrase it like that. There was a reason why she hated working with others. "I don't particularly mind."

Lies.

There were so many lies and secrets... [Name] started to wonder she could ever go a day without them.

[Name] followed the Thunder Legion quietly while reading the book she had out. They didn't know how, but the girl miraculously followed them without tripping or disappearing. She ignored their conversations and stayed silent through the entire trip.

"Reminds me of you Freed," Evergreen pointed out as they rode on the train.

"I don't follow,"

"She's been reading this entire time, it's like when you refuse to leave the library until someone drags you out," Bickslow grinned as his dolls followed in a chorus of 'yeah's.

Freed's only reply was a nod and a slight roll of his eyes before he looked out of the window. He glanced over at the girl as she flipped the page of her book.

He couldn't help but notice that the book she was reading was one he had never seen before, but the title suggested that it was about a type of Lost Magic.

He looked closely at the cover but decided not to say a word. He knew how annoying it could get when someone talked to you when you were attempting to read.

"Aren't we getting off the train?" a voice made all three of them look at her as the train started to pull into the station.

"No... it should be the next stop according to our client," Evergreen told her.

"You shouldn't trust people so easily," [Name] muttered loud enough for them to here. "The next stop will lead you to the front of the dark guild."

[Name] walked off to the doors of the train. The Thunder Legion glanced at one another before they decided that one of them should go with her. Of course, Freed followed after her.

When he got off the train, he saw that [Name] stood near the exit as though she was waiting for him. But her eyes were still looking at her book. When he reached a certain distance away from her, she started walking at a casual pace.

Freed looked at her curiously, wondering how exactly she was doing that. But he chose not to say a word so that he didn't disturb her. He didn't realise, but [Name] glanced up from her book to look at him.

She wondered who he was. It was rare that someone didn't annoy her by attempting to create small talk. It was also lovely having someone who didn't have any negative thoughts about her upon first meeting.

She quickly looked back down at her book when he looked at her as well.

But as they walked through a path in the forest, [Name] suddenly stopped in her tracks. She glanced back to a seemingly empty path

She made the simple motion of flicking her wrist and a figure immediately flew towards them.

Freed looked at him in slight surprise. He looked like a civilian but his actions spoke otherwise. Just as he was about to ask, [Name] answered his unasked question.

"He's a reporter from the client. There's nothing to worry about. No doubt he wished to find out about the magic I possess," she muttered quietly before turning to the reporter. "Don't follow is any further, or else you'll have hell to pay for."

Her words sent chills through the young reporter's spine and he quickly disappeared from their sight.

"What is your magic, may I ask?" Freed broke the silence.

"You wouldn't believe me if I said telekinesis would you?"

"Only partially. It can't be something as simple as that,"

"Then I won't say any more," [Name] murmured as she closed her eyes.

"Why?"

"Because it's a secret..."

"I see,"

"..."

[Name] waited for him to pry and to push her into revealing it but nothing happened. She blinked in confusion, glancing towards the green-haired male for a spilt-second.

"I... I can't trust anyone..." [Name] found herself murmuring and her next few words were so quiet that Freed barely made out what she said. "Especially not myself...."

Freed looked at her upon hearing her saddened tone. He reached a hand to put on her shoulder but she hurriedly moved away as though she could sense it.

"Don't touch me," her voice was panicked as she disappeared, reappearing several metres away. "You'll regret it for the rest of your life."

Freed looked shocked for a split second, but he quickly regained his composure.

"I understand. Thank you for your concern," he smiled slightly at her as he walked towards her. "Let's continue on."

[Name] looked at him oddly but never said a word. Again, she waited for him to ask about what just happened, but he didn't.

The two of them walked along the path in silence once again. They both seemed to look forwards but when the other wasn't looking, they would sneak glances towards each other.

Eventually, they reached the dark guild from the back. But instead of sneaking inside like Freed assumed, [Name] measured a few steps away from the backdoors. Freed followed her quietly.

She seemed to do whatever she wished without telling anyone. She could be considered the unknown variable in life, covered by secrets.

He had only met her today, but he seemed to be used to her antics.

Freed watched her as she tapped the dirt with her heel. The sound that came from was unusual, which confirmed that there was something there.

The girl muttered a spell and placed her finger on the floor, opening the trapdoor and revealing a set of staircases.

"There... are children under there that the dark guild kidnapped..." [Name] trailed off, glancing to the side. Freed watched her for a while before understanding what was wrong.

"I understand, I'll help them up here. Could you keep watch?" He asked her with a smile.

"Yeah..." [Name] nodded slowly. "Thank you..."

"There's nothing to thank," Freed assured her as he disappeared down the steps.

[Name] watched his back as he left, wondering what this feeling was. She shook her head as she clenched her fists.

"It's probably nothing..."

And now, another secret had been added to her never-ending pile. If only she could break away from them...
