"So Avi, how long have you known that you had powers?" Kevin asked the next morning, after they had gotten some sleep.
Kevin had shown them his house and allowed them to sleep in his guest bedrooms. He also let them borrow a few clothes. Avi was wearing a t-shirt and some sweatpants, and even though Kirstie had her own clothes, she wore one of his hoodies with her jeans. All of them were barefoot, not seeing any need to wear shoes at the moment. Getting in so late, they accidently slept in, so Kevin was currently making them brunch while they helped with anything he needed.
"I've known ever since... 5th grade? No, 4th grade. Yeah, I remember it was 4th grade because I was taking a test and I was trying to remember the answer to one of the problems. I concentrated really hard and next thing I know, I'm back at my house watching myself study. Long story short, I got a B+ on that test when I knew I was gonna fail. 5th grade was when I mastered it." He explained, and Kirstie smiled.
"That sounds a lot like me when I was in school. When I first learned about my powers, I remember seeing what was on an exam and the answers I got wrong. Then I had time to study the material or remember the correct answer. I got an A on it but never did it again because I felt like I was cheating."
"Well when I did it, technically it was just like remembering what I studied. The only difference was that I could see the answers." He said with a smirk, and Kirstie rolled her eyes.
"Alright, enough you two." Kevin said with a chuckle.
"Oh come on Kevin, are you trying to tell us that you've never used your powers for your own personal gain?" Kirstie asked, putting a hand on her hip.
"No I have not." He replied, grabbing some orange juice from the fridge.
"Really? What about yesterday? You used your abilities against your professor." She smirked, and Avi looked confused.
"What happened yesterday with his professor?" He questioned.
"Can't you look into the past?" Kirstie asked, and he nodded.
"Yeah, but I don't feel like it. So come on, tell me what happened!!!" Avi said excitedly, and Kirstie started telling him the story.
Kevin rolled his eyes and continued making the brunch, ignoring their conversation. When Kirstie was done, Avi looked at Kevin in surprise.
"So you used your abilities to make your professor look like an idiot?" He asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Hey, he made himself look like an idiot, I had nothing to do with that. All I did was correct the problems he got wrong, it just so happened to be all of them." Kevin replied with a shrug.
"Dude are you kidding? Do you know how many people in the world would love to show up their teachers?"
"Approximately 1 in 10 students will want to make their teacher look bad in some way. So if you go to a high school, then at least 23 kids would want their teachers to make mistakes." Kevin said matter of factly, and Avi and Kirstie stared at him.
"Wow, you weren't kidding when you said he was super smart." Avi told Kirstie.
"I know right? What are you, a robot?" She asked with a chuckle.
"No, I'm not a robot." Kevin replied, taking out some cups.
"Really? Because that's exactly what a robot would say!" She yelled hiding behind Avi, and Kevin rolled his eyes.
"Okay, let me ask you something. Would a robot make you a delicious brunch with your choice of waffles or pancakes?" He asked.
"They could if you programmed them properly." She said, peeking out from behind Avi.
"Come on Kirstie, Kevin's not a robot. You know how I know?" Avi questioned, and she shook her head.
"I know... Because I am a robot!!!" Then he started chasing her around the kitchen repeating 'I am a robot.'
She ran away and hid behind Kevin, trying to push him in front of her so he would get caught.
"AHHH, Kevin help me!!!" She laughed.
"Hmm, I don't know... you did say I was a robot, so I'm not sure if I should help you or Avi." He trailed off, and looked down at her with a smile.
"I'm sorry for calling you a robot!!!" She said as she ran circles around him to avoid Avi.
"You better be, that's offensive. Especially since... I'M AN ALIEN!!!" He yelled, then he roared, turned around, and grabbed her.
She screeched and bolted out the room with Kevin and Avi hot on her trail. Kirstie ran around a corner and jumped over a couch to hide behind it. She stayed quiet as the footsteps stopped.
"Where did she go?" She heard Kevin's voice ask.
"I think I may know." Avi's voice said, then they ran out the room.
She stayed quiet for a few more moments before sneaking a peek. There was no one in the living room so she slowly started to come out from her hiding spot. Before she could do anything, she felt a pair of arms wrap around her waist and pick her up. She screamed as they spun her around.
"Haha!!! I've captured you!!!" Avi said, still holding her up.
"Put me down!!!" She yelled, hitting his arms and laughing.
"It was pretty clever of you to use your powers to see where she went." Kevin said nodding. "This alien approves."
"Come on guys, put me down!!!" Kirstie laughed, continuing to struggle in Avi's grasp.
"No! Since you were captured, then we must figure out what to do with you." Avi said narrowing his eyes.
"Let's make her our minion so she can do our bidding!" Kevin suggested while rubbing his hands like an evil villain.
"No! I don't wanna be a minion! I don't know how to speak Minionese!!!" She complained.
"Silence!" Kevin shouted. "What should we have her do first?" He asked, and then Avi's stomach growled.
"I don't know about you, but I say we make her feed us. I'm hungry!" He said, finally putting Kirstie down.
"Meh, I can live with that." She said, shrugging and walking back into the kitchen with a laugh.
Kevin and Avi smiled and followed her. Once in the kitchen, they sat at the table while she was busy making their plates.
"Hurry up with my food, I'm starving over here!" Avi joked, and she turned around to look at him with one hand holding his plate.
"Only nice robots get to eat." She told him, putting a hand on her hip.
He instantly gave her an award winning smile, and puppy eyes.
"Please?" He asked sweetly, and she rolled her eyes.
"Fine, I guess it'll have to do for now." She said with a smile, and set down his waffles in front of him.
Grabbing a fork, he immediately dug into the piping hot food. Kirstie went back and started to make Kevin's plate.
"Do I have to be stern with you too?" She questioned raising an eyebrow, and he chuckled.
"No ma'am." He said, putting his hands up in surrender.
She smiled and set his plate of food in front of him and then went back to get their drinks. Once they were settled, she made her own plate and was greedy with the bacon. Avi saw this and quickly spoke up.
"Hey don't hog all of the bacon!" He shouted.
Kirstie and Kevin looked at him for a few seconds before they burst out laughing. Avi didn't understand what was so funny and kept asking questions. Then he finally got it and rolled his eyes.
"Oh, ha ha. Real mature guys." He said sarcastically as they finally calmed down.
To make him feel better, when she sat down, she gave both of them 2 extra pieces of bacon. Avi took them and his huge frown disappeared instantly as he munched happily on them. Kevin looked around and smiled. It was truly amazing how they had only met each other yesterday, and were already acting like the best of friends. He knew they had to keep moving though, and after a quick stop by Avi's place, they could get back to business.
"Seattle." Kirstie said out of the blue, and Kevin and Avi looked at her curiously.
"I'm sorry?" Kevin asked.
"You were thinking about going on the road to search again right? Well the next person we're going to meet is in Seattle, Washington." She said taking a sip of her orange juice.
Kevin stared at her. "How did you know what I was thinking?" He asked.
"You didn't say? Hmm, maybe it was just that thinking face you had on. It's not hard to tell what people are thinking based on their facial expressions." She said with a shrug.
"Unless they have a good poker face." Avi piped up, and she giggled.
"P P P Poker face, P P Poker face." She sang quietly.
"Muh muh muh muh." Avi sang in his deep voice.
Kirstie almost spit out her drink from laughing. Even Kevin started chuckling at that, while Avi just had a smile on his face.
"That was so unexpected!" Kirstie laughed, sitting her cup down.
"Oh what? You sing a song that I really like and you think I'm not gonna sing along?" Avi questioned, and she waved him off.
"No no, it's just, sometimes I forget that your voice is really low. Even though you talk all time, it's like if I'm not prepared, then it surprises me. Don't worry, this happens with everyone I meet." She explained, and he chuckled.
"So, now that we've gotten over how awkward Kirstie can be..." Kevin started.
"Hey!" She complained, and they chuckled.
"Why don't we get going. I'd rather find these people sooner than later."
"Alright, but I have a quick question." Avi said.
"Yes?"
"What are you expecting to do when everyone's been found?" He asked, and Kevin hesitated before answering.
"We'll cross that bridge when we get there. Now come on, eat up. We have a long way to go before we get to Seattle." Kevin replied, and then everyone started to quickly finish their food, preparing for the long road ahead of them.
