Change of POV
It hadn’t taken me long this time to find where the office was since I went that way once and the scents were a good give away too. I was still nervous in fear that someone will tell me that I would have to go inside and see the King again.
I kind of hope not since I’m still raw from that scary talk.
But luckily for me, no one told me such a thing and I was waiting outside it, patiently for Verin. Except there was a downside to this as I hadn’t mean to, I could hear their conversation due to my super hearing as a werewolf.
I tried to pay attention to elsewhere but something else catch my attention very quickly. I obviously missed something…
“These trained assassins, Verin, might be part of that group that murdered your mother.”
I gasped quietly to myself, bringing my hand up to my mouth as I heard that single line come from the King, Verin’s father. I knew the father sounded void of emotion towards his son about this news but I can hear the slight waver underneath that hid his true emotions about the matter.
“What?” came an actual quiet response from a voice that I knew belonged to Verin. How could I not know that voice?
But it sounded strange like a… frightened child, perhaps? I can’t truly tell the emotion besides shock, really. It just he actually sounded quiet in that voice and it was filled with a whole other emotion besides demanding and angry all the time.
After I knew Verin was getting consoled by his own father, I totally blanked out and thought of what I just heard because I couldn’t help hearing that over and over in my mind.
There are assassins after Verin and apparently they might be the ones that killed his mother too. I thought in pure shock. Oh, no. Is he going to be okay? Is he going to be under stricter restrictions for his own protection?
I knew I shouldn’t be worrying about him at all. I mean, he’ll be perfectly fine since he was stronger than even I was plus he can usually handle himself just fine. I was sure he’ll be heavily guarded now too.
After all, apparently someone was after his head this time around. No, I mean the head on his shoulders. God, wouldn’t it be funny someone takes his genitals though so he can’t reproduce?
Unless they want his sperm which I doubt it.
Maybe Verin is starting to rub off and I kind of don’t like that fact… I told myself, shaking my head silently.
“You can so change it now by dumping those fucking whores!”
I jumped at the sudden yelling that came from the room behind me. I turned my head towards the office’s door in bewilderment. How did it get from an extremely scary and depressing topic to something loud and angry so easily?
Well, this is Verin, I am talking about… I thought to myself dryly and looked down at my feet. Verin has proved that he was an angry, loud, ignorant and confident person including being selfish. He has not proved to me that he had compassion or anything kind about him besides his own affections for his sister.
Maybe some day, Verin won’t be afraid to show his real self…
“Wait a minute,” I whispered to myself out loud in disbelief, “I did not just think that right now?” I bit my bottom lip, starting to feel great confusing. Why would I ever think that about Verin? Especially how he has treated me and, well, he was definitely a male.
I’m not into males. I’m confused. Maybe that disgusting man did a lot to my brain after all before I was bought here…
“Were you listening onto my conversation, Foalan?” A voice snarled at me, waking me up from my thoughts again.
I flinched in surprise then looked up at the familiar face of Verin, who was seething. I shied against the wall and lowered my gaze. “I was just waiting for you, Master…” I swallowed, nervously. “I… I didn’t mean any harm…”
When I didn’t get an answer right away like I expected, I glanced up at him and openly looked him over. I just remembered that he had gotten into a fight. Was he hurt anywhere? After I look every inch of him, I was relieved to see no harm done to Verin.
Thank god that he is okay… My thoughts instantly spoke as it agreed with my relieved emotions and delight that he wasn’t hurt physically when he’ll need to be strong to defend himself.
Verin clenched his jaw as he reached out to grab my upper arm, tightly. “Come with me right now.” He growled lowly before he stalked off, literally dragging me.
Shocked, I stumbled to try and keep up with his speed. His strides were much longer than me since he was taller than me. I did not understand the sudden anger besides the fact that I was indeed listening in but that was the only thing I was guilty about.
Again, I wonder where are we going this time? Was he going to put me in the closest of his room or something? That, I wouldn’t be shocked about actually…
I would look at my surroundings but with Verin jerking me around, I wasn’t able to take any closer attention to the hallways, the pictures and such.
I hesitated. “My Lord?” I asked, quietly. “May I speak?”
“No.” was Verin’s short, lashed out reply.
I flinched at the tone he used and lowered my gaze quickly. What else did I do to make him furious? I stupidly listened in parts of the conversations and there was not being in his room like I was suppose to…
Then that was when a light bulb went off in my head. That was what was wrong! I wasn’t in the room so he’s going to yell at me as a warning or was it a second warning for not going there as expected? I nodded. Yeah, that must be it!
I came back from my thoughts yet again when I noticed we were going down these creepy stairs that had walls on each side. There was a metal door that meets us at the end of it. Now, I began to feel uncomfortable and frightened.
I opened my mouth then I closed it instantly. I wasn’t given permission to speak and I was afraid what else will happen if I do speak.
I tried to walk slower down the stairs but Verin snarled at me. “Get your ass moving, you dip shit!” He snapped at me.
I cringed, instantly obeying him and moved the pace he wanted me at. We finally reached the end of the stairs to the metal door. My emotions and thoughts were high wired. I was starting to shake because I didn’t understand why I was brought here.
I was too scared to even try to speak or even move. I was confused and I didn’t understand either. Not at all.
Verin gave me this glare that told me that I better stay there or else kind of look. He moved forward to pull the metal bar away which made a loud screeching noise. I flinched at the noise. He ignored me as he shoved the door wide open as it let out a painful groan during that whole time. Before I could even blink, he shoved me in front of him and forced me inside the dim lit hallway.
My eyes adjusted to the new lighting pretty quickly then I grew wary. Everything was bare but the floors? They were cleaned up a little but it was clearly stained with something red. I could hear the mutated small rodents run across the floor, hiding in the shadows.
“Come with me, stupid mutt.” Verin growled and started to drag me again. My feet literally dragged as I stared in slight horror.
Why was I brought down here? I couldn’t help but ask. To strike fear into me? Well, it worked!
Suddenly, we had stopped at this opening that had a cell onto my left. The door of this huge cage was opened. There was chains, a table, weapons and some other sharp objects that I couldn’t tell what they are.
Verin shoved me forward and brought me towards the chains.
Then, it finally dawned on me.
I’m going to be punished. I thought, shoulders sagging. I’m going to get something he believes I deserves. I have disobeyed him three times and the third time I hadn’t even mean to or the second time since I was left alone…
Verin made me lift my arms up so he could wrap the chains around my wrists. “These are enchanted.” He told me. “So don’t even think you can escape.” He added, grounding his teeth together.
“I won’t.” I whispered, closing my eyes. I meant those words too. How could I escape anyways? There was no way I could without getting a death sentence or worse. There was no hope to escape.
Verin had seemed to pause for a moment, I could tell by how he stopped moving for just a mere second before he finished my chains around my wrist so I was forced to stay where I was. He then did the same for my ankles, probably for safe keeping.
When he had finally pulled away from me, I opened my eyes to look at his back while he picked the useful torture device for me. I didn’t understand why but I felt incredibly depressed to see this.
Was it because I might of secretly hope he wouldn’t do this to me? Was it because I know I was going to possibly go down memory lane of my first time being enslaved? I don’t know, I just don’t know!
All I know in the end was that it was still going to hurt me either way.
“Please,” I finally whispered, brokenly, “Please, don’t…”
“Don’t you dare tell me what I don’t or do want to do!” Verin snarled at me, picking up a whip easily and turned towards me. “Because no matter what you fucking say, I’m still going to fucking do it. And you’ll deserve every damn thing that comes your damn way!”
I cringed at the harshness of his tone. I quickly lowered my gaze, deciding that I wouldn’t try to speak to him again during this. I decided that I was going to try very hard not to make any noise at all during this punishment because then that would give him satisfaction and I don’t want this happening again.
I heard his loud footsteps coming towards my direction until I saw where his feet was. Then his feet moved to my right until I couldn’t see his feet anymore but I could sense him behind me. I felt my shirt suddenly being ripped away from my body.
I let out a startled gasp at that and to feel the slight cold, damp air meet my skin. It gave me some goose bumps which I didn’t appreciate. I tried to stop my trembling but I couldn’t because I was too frightened.
I kept my gaze downwards the stoned floor. Don’t think about it, don’t think about it, don’t think about it… I chanted to myself.
I could hear him unroll the whip and I could even hear the whip cut through the air as he got it straightened out. I swallowed and kept telling myself not to think about it. It’ll be over as soon as you know it. You know that. I told myself.
Then suddenly, I felt the air went tense and I felt the real first wave of pain since I got here. He definitely made sure to make that whip hit me as I felt the stinging burn across my back, knowing well the first welt will appear. But when the second whip came, I realize I haven’t taken a closer look to that whip because I felt this whip cling into my skin, digging harshly.
I bit my tongue so hard that it bled in my mouth, closing my eyes tightly. Especially when he had jerked it back, making sure to rip some flesh then it was back to the normal whip, hitting across my now wounded back.
My eyes now stung as the first set of tears began to fall from my face. I can keep myself quiet somehow but I couldn’t control my pained tears. I know I will be ashamed of this weakness when he sees my face after being shock how quiet I was.
But this must of lasted maybe fifteen minutes despite it feeling like an eternity. He lashed out at me like he was furious with me or perhaps, maybe it was the world. He had switched back between those two types of whips he had.
When he had finally stopped, I could barely hear his harsh pants then I heard something hit the stone floors with a clack noise. But it was so faint to my ears because I was barely here myself.
My eyes were finally open as I dazedly stared at the ground. Tears still ran and dropped from my face. I could see my own blood dripping with my tear drops. I sagged where I was, too weak to move and way too sore to try. It was a shock that I was conscious at all by how much blood I seem to be losing.
See, Lycans aka werewolves are more sensitive of losing blood more like any animal out there. I don’t know why but its just how it was.
“Foalan?” a voice asked me, voice filling with… what? Worry? Anger? Disgust? Regret? I don’t know… My gaze was still on the floor as I surprisingly wasn’t paying attention to the world anymore.
I felt a hesitated touch against my left cheek, wiping the streaming tears away. “Foalan?” The voice repeated.
Did I say I was looking at the floor?
I lied.
Because all I saw was pure blackness as I fell unconscious. I was relieved that I did because I didn’t want to feel the pain anymore. I didn’t want to stay there anymore either.
For once, can someone leave me be and let me have some peace? Was there anything wrong with wanting that at all?
But who cares because maybe, this time, I won’t wake up.
